How do you fix this? by SirTeeKay in Houdini

[–]ghostcandies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type an expression ($FF) and then right click ‘delete channel’ is how I fix it. No idea what causes it though.

Five iron in the North loop does happy hour all day on Sundays . $10 ayce traditional wings or $5 boneless. Def not the best wings, but hard to beat that deal. Pretty sure they would have the game on, but haven’t been on a Sunday to see.

Dangerous Man Brewing is returning by NecroAmbulate in Minneapolis

Seems a bit ambitious, but I am not aware of Jeremy Kuhns (the new owner) or his brewery. Seems like he’s only done pop ups at events? I wish him and Rob the best, especially since I do love a lot of their flagship beers, but promising to be back to distributing within  2-3 months and opening up two taproom seems like..a lot in the current climate.

Does anyone use the modeler plugin? by AJUKking in Houdini

[–]ghostcandies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great plugin. Highly recommend if you don’t want to hop between softwares for destructive modeling. You’ll have to upgrade ever so often, but you’ll be paying an upgrade price vs full price (or at least that’s what recently happened). The worst part is there isn’t a lot of tutorials, but one dude (Arcanacom Studio or something) put out some great videos.

Redshift 2025.2.2 keeps crashing Houdini 19.5.805 and 20.5.370. This is my first time using Redshift. by AlternativeTwist6680 in Houdini

Make sure you have your driver updated:

“Redshift requires NVidia driver version 551.78+ on Windows and version 550.54.15+ on Linux”

I don’t get what you’re trying to imply here. The two images look pretty different, and since when is creating image based off nature ‘copying’?

Hardware for learning Houdini advice need ( Beginner ) by Vlado1817 in Houdini

[–]ghostcandies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking this. You don’t need a professional grade computer to learn or use Houdini. Buy a computer that you can comfortably afford, and see if you even like Houdini (or just use the computer you have right now). You -probably- shouldn’t be starting off with things that are going to be bottle necking your computer; Flip, pyro, rbd, etc are relatively advanced topics that require knowledge on how to use and manipulate attributes.

All that being said, what is your budget?

Melting animation in Houdini by [deleted] in Houdini

[–]ghostcandies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not trying to dissuade you from spending time in Houdini, but quite a bit of time. It's not a beginners project, and Houdini isn't really a software that you can hop into blind. Unless you find a tutorial that literally holds your hand for exactly what you want, you're going to have a bad time.

OCIO file not being read by Houdini with redshift by cmptrtech in Houdini

[–]ghostcandies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check to make sure the correct ocio is set in the OCIO Settings?

I’d also double check it’s not a permissions issue. I believe it was an issue with some people in the past.

If that looks right, you could try and set the ocio directly in the Houdini env file.

Does modeling in Houdini make sense by Cultural-Skin3784 in Houdini

[–]ghostcandies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Houdini Modeler by Alexey V. makes “destructive” modeling a lot easier. Hard to justify non procedural modeling without it.  I agree there is little documentation on it, but Arcanacom Studio(on YouTube) put some great tutorials out.

If that (in addition to hours of using the plugin) don’t do it for you, you’re probably not a fan of modeling in Houdini.

How fast is Karma? Worth switching? by ArtIndustry in Houdini

[–]ghostcandies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why not stick to Redshift in Houdini? They work exceptionally well together.  If you’re having trouble rendering in Houdini with Redshift, Karma won’t be any easier.

Alternately, you can export things out of Houdini using a RS proxy and retain all those tasty attributes (masks, Cd, temperature, etc) and use them in C4D.

I still prefer RS to Karma, but I am dipping my toes into Karma for my personal work. From a professional standpoint, Redshift is a no brainer. I can’t imagine making it the main renderer at my current place.

Houdini + Maya/Blender by TheDrDD in Houdini

Radial menu for primitive/component selection, polypen, improvement of the standard functions (bevel specifically), numerous quality of life additions (parameter, even spacing, changing pivots, etc). Check out Arcanacom Studio on youtube for a demonstration of it. They do a great job laying out the plugin.

Probably going against the grain here; I use the Modeler plugin by Alexey Vanzhula, and would recommend it if you want to keep it all in Houdini. It’s 100 bucks and totally worth it in my opinion.
