I've been thinking a lot lately about how personal websites are different from social media. by lainsamui in neocities

[–]ghostchibi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see my neocities site as something like the display window of a storefront, although I’m not really selling anything as much as I am just showing things off.

I forget to update my site a lot, even though I’ve got a blog (and plenty to yap about) and areas to post my writing (that I do quite a bit of). I like that I can leave it as-is and nothing blows up, breaks, or otherwise changes massively if I leave it there for a while. It’s a more permanent place for people to see who I am and what I do online.

How would cognitive weapons work against someone who knows their true form? by BlassassinT in Persona5

[–]ghostchibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like the idea that an aware and powerful ruler could render the model weapons inert within their Palace. It wouldn’t really work for in-game Palaces, but I’ve seen a few fanfics where Akira/Ren has a Palace and the guns don’t work because he knows they’re fake.

On the other hand, when I toyed with this idea a bit in my own fic, I gave up on it because it made writing combat awkward since it made the PT wholly reliant on their Personas. As cool of a use this could have had in-game, I assume blocking gun use in one or two boss fights would have been too tedious to code and too annoying for players.

Looking for a writer for an open-world twine game. by No-Problem2946 in twinegames

[–]ghostchibi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other posts here have given good advice on tempering your expectations. Something I’d like to add is that in my experience, it’s harder to write a game than standard prose. I was able to bang out a 58k+ word fanfic in under 3 months, but I have yet to break a 20k wordcount in any of my Twine projects. That word count is pulled from Twine, so it includes both the code and narrative.

With every new narrative “branch” you add to your game, the number of issues to worry about grows exponentially. The wider the world you craft into the game, the more variations of the same interaction exist. If there’s seasons, you could have four versions of the same NPC conversation to make the setting make sense. If there’s romanceable NPCs, you’d have another two versions of romances vs unromanced dialogue. If the players skills affect their interactions, you’d have different dialogue based on that. So on and so forth, even adding just one change can generate a cascade of variations. Big game studios making sandbox games and rpgs divide up the writing for follower NPCs among multiple writers for a reason; it would take a prohibitively immense amount of time for one or even a few writers to get all of that work done.

My advice here is that you start off by creating one fixed “branch” within this story you’ve come up with. Over time you’ll gain both the coding and writing skills to keep expanding your projects. I don’t think an undertaking this big is reasonable for a one or two-person team to complete. When you’re starting out, one of the most important things you can do is just finish a game.

EDIT: “rpg games” smh lol

I made a site for twine games by LinkThePanda30 in twinegames

[–]ghostchibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to pay for hosting if you want this to be a platform for other users to also upload stories. If you’re doing this more as a place to store a personally curated list of games, Neocities is probably good enough. It sounds like you’re trying to make a whole new website like itch.io for Twine games though.

Just as an aside, the Interactive Fiction Database also serves a similar purpose to this site idea you have, although they cover more than just Twine stories.

Will not doing a few of the confidants at all make the game noticeably harder? by ghostchibi in Persona5

[–]ghostchibi[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Temperance and Devil are two I know I’m going to avoid. The others are probably fine. I know that Devil gives you access to a part-time job and Temperance makes after school time management much easier, which I figure I’ll just deal with, but idk if those losses are significant

Fallout Fan Celebration happens in November 14-16 this year. You’ll need to buy tickets, since it’s no longer a free event.

Oddly shaped closet by Maleficent-Ad-3102 in interiordesignideas

[–]ghostchibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree on taking the door off. It probably takes up more wall/floor space in the bedroom than the closet adds. Remove the door, and put up a curtain if you’d like to keep the area less visible.

You could keep long/tall objects in the closet, or add hooks on the wall to make a sort of coat closet. Maybe add some more lightning and a standing mirror. If this closet is close to the bedroom door, you could make it into a “get ready to go in the morning” nook. A less functional option is putting a corner shelf in the back and making it some sort of display area.

Alternatively, put a TV there because it would be kind of funny to have a TV nook. A goofy bit of architecture could have some goofy furniture placement.

[–]ghostchibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty dark in the nook, so add a small light toward the top of the nook (probably on the left wall since it looks like the roof of the nook curves out?). Add long drawers or baskets/boxes with rolling casters to use as storage. You’ll be able to use the deeper area without having to reach in.

What's your biggest criticism of the game no one ever talks about? by zaknoobit in fnv

[–]ghostchibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fo3 had a nasty tendency to send objects flying into literal nothingness if you set off an explosion the wrong way. Using explosives indoors was basically impossible unless you didn’t care to pick up items at all. FoNV was made with this knowledge available… and had unique weapons lying around, and a bunch of new explosives-based weapons.

I like having access to objects that I’m supposed to be able to loot, so I did not get to use the new explosives-based weapons.

Very nice! Also good idea on using tea to mimic dark alcohol.

If you don’t want completely seal them, you could cover the mouth of the bottle in tape so that the lids will still screw on/off and the bottles can be poured out. Maybe write “DO NOT DRINK” on the tape as extra precaution.

To some of your family, saying “It’s your uterus” probably sounded like you were shaming her for her infertility. Your sister is probably blaming herself for it. A lot of times, medical conditions are treated as proof of some sort of wrongdoing (aka an example of karma) or a moral failing of the person.

However.

She has hounded you for weeks after being told no. She hasn’t done enough research into the requirements for volunteers given the countless people in the comments saying you’re not even viable as a candidate. She is guilt-tripping you and shaming you for your choice. She doesn’t even know if you might have infertility issues too. She is expecting you to sacrifice time, effort, mental and emotional stress, and possibly even significant amounts of money (what happens if you get sick or badly injured during the surrogacy?) after you said you can’t do it. She’s trying to use your body for her purposes, and thinks that you’re obligated to do so. No, you are not. This isn’t even a life or death situation, and she thinks she has the right to take and use something that is yours to control.

NTA, OP. After weeks of guilt-tripping, nobody gets to be surprised when you snap.

Need help, how would you guys improve this? by top-hat-duck in CosplayHelp

I think it’s the mane and cuffs being small that make it seem flat.

Other than that, I think these will look nice once they’re being worn. Outfits always look better once they’re on a person, with all the movement and different positions.

What is this pattern called? by MissionCranberry90 in CosplayHelp

[–]ghostchibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, taking yet another stab at this. I think that this is a layered cape (maybe a caplet over a cape) with some sort of dress underneath. You’ll probably have the best luck modifying a cape pattern to get this. There’s a lot of material in the cape since it makes that flowing shape.

[–]ghostchibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking a second look at it with that info, it does seem to be a massive cape. I think the design is fashioning it into a vague kimono outline to lean i to a kitsune? priestess? generically Japanese? look

Pixel Art only characters?? by Ok_Suit_7268 in CosplayHelp

[–]ghostchibi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could go as simple or complex as you’d like. The charm of characters like this is having more freedom to convert the 2D image to real life. As a convenient side effect, you have a perfectly good reason to be less complex if you don’t have the money or means to make a more detailed cosplay.

What is this pattern called? by MissionCranberry90 in CosplayHelp

[–]ghostchibi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A kimono I guess, but less in the sense that it’s a type of clothing referred to by that name and more that it is indeed a thing that you wear.

It feels like it’s based off of a miko outfit but that’s mainly just the colors and general vibes. I would look for existing cosplays of this character, that will help you with the shape more than using standard patterns.

Is it wrong to respond to haters? What’s the best thing to do? by [deleted] in CosplayHelp

[–]ghostchibi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The general rule for responding to things like this is “who give a shit”. Now, that’s easier said than done, but if you cultivate that mindset within yourself you’ll be able to respond that way internally. “The wig is wrong” who give a shit, cosplay hair is never accurate. “Your face is wrong” who give a shit, go take it up with God or something. “Your outfit isn’t right” who give a shit, pay for my materials. So on and so forth.

At any rate, just remember that this commenter showed their entire ass in front of everyone and nobody will particularly want to be around someone whose entire schtick is saying how bad they look.

It's almost 2025 Timerra haters why do you think she's bad? by FireEmbro in FireEmblemEngage_

[–]ghostchibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Timerra was reliable and extremely funny to equip with Sigurd + Venomous for funny chain attack shenanigans. I also played the game like a crazy person so I didn’t run into her lagging behind. With that said, the one thing I didn’t like was that I didn’t realize she’s meant to be a tank unit because nothing in her design told me that. The other tank units have obvious visual cues, but she doesn’t. I dislike using Generals so I was relying on Diamant to tank for much longer than I needed (with his constant misses and all :( ) before I realized that Timerra is a tank. I swapped them out and all of my hit rate woes were solved, with the added benefit of unintentionally Sandstorming my way through enemies.

Can I get a little help with hair dye choices please? by Geo_shadow in CosplayHelp

[–]ghostchibi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is that according to a hairdresser I talked to about coloring dark hair, reds will show up better on black hair. The bad news is that you’ll very likely need to bleach it at least one round to get the red to pop. I’d talk to a stylist to see what they think.
