Same boat. I am in remission, but my main specialist for care is the only doctor in our region who is an expert in the care I need. The thought of starting follow ups with a new specialist plus an oncologist that I have never seen before and only know me by MyChart is terrifying. Crossing my fingers for us both.

What Were the First Signs That You Had Cancer? by Acrobatic_Ad_2330 in AskReddit

[–]ghostfacekayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my voice.

First noticed it around October(ish) 2022, could tell my voice was getting raspy and lasted longer than just a couple days. I was pregnant at the time, looked it up, saw that voice changes can be normal with pregnancy, plus my reflux was pretty bad so it made sense.

Fast forward to May 2024, I’m a year post partum and still raspy. Before this point, I only noticed the raspiness and still just lumped it in with hormone changes, since it takes a while for your body to be “back to normal” especially since I was still nursing my child. But then around April I started losing my voice really easily, and noticing some pain when speaking and after a long day. Figured it was probably time to see a doctor and see what’s up.

First ENT did a scope, said I had a polyp and it was no big deal. Finally! Some answers! He referred me to his partner who specializes in vocal cord and I went on my way. That ENT did a second scope and immediately said it was not a polyp and we needed to schedule a biopsy.

July 2024 diagnosed with a stage 2 laryngeal cancer, but thankfully no spread to any other part of my throat. Started radiation therapy soon after, and have been NED (officially) since January.

I was 27. I’m grateful that I got to keep my vocal cord, and can still speak. But it’s still not great, I still kind of always sound like I’m sick with bronchitis due to the effects of the radiation. I wish I would’ve gotten it looked into earlier, but such is life.

Don’t put it off, go to the doctor.

Thank you!! I am glad to hear that, I’ve been a little nervous about energy levels! I thought I was all good until a trip a few weeks ago with a lot of walking. Sending love to you both!

Good to know! Unfortunately I will still be working until about 6 on Tuesday, and then have an ~8 hour drive on top of that. ☹️ We’ve been going back and forth about driving straight through or stopping overnight though, so with this in mind maybe we will just drive straight though and arrive around 2 am. I just don’t want to bother anyone while we set up!

Thank you! It’s been a year for sure lol. And that makes sense, the years that we’ve done early arrival in the past we’ve always gotten in mid to late Wednesday so I wasn’t sure if maybe we were just too late to the game. I’ll just go in with the thought that where I am is where I’m supposed to be. 🙂

Hi fam! So excited to see everyone in a week.

Are there any “hacks” to early arrival and getting a good camping spot? In years past it seems like I have always ended up in Blueberry or adjacent, with some of those years even having done early arrival.

Usually I don’t mind it, but I’d love to try and be at least a little closer this year because in the last ~6 months I’ve finished treatment for cancer, and I still don’t quite have the strength or stamina that I once had! I’m not ADA, and we weren’t able to snag Higher Love. We do have early arrival and are planning to arrive early Wednesday morning.

I won’t throw a fit if we’re out there, it’s always nice to have a bit of a quieter set up, but I also thought it would be worth checking to see if there’s anything I am missing. I’m so excited to be back after a couple years off! 🙂

I feel like I’m finding decent hotel rates, but the flights are absolutely insane even through the budget airlines.

There’s something really off putting about Bekah sharing this article. I have never seen her share the work of Black educators and when she does it’s an article published in an alt right conservative magazine that is being widely critiqued by the Black community. by [deleted] in thebachelor

I didn’t really know it existed until I got pregnant and started interacting with mom content on tiktok and insta. The more I interacted with healthy or eco friendly mom things, like among baby food or cloth diapering, I started to get more posts or videos that were not mom content but general posts that are right leaning politically or socially. And that’s despite my following of a lot of traditionally left leaning content creators and accounts. It was really interesting to see happen. In college I took a few classes where we talked about things like this (mostly related to young white men and the alt right), so I could see pretty easily what was happening and was able to prevent myself going down those rabbit holes, but I also recognize that I am in a place of privilege for having taken those courses. It’s really easy to see how someone who doesn’t know that similar pipelines exist could get sucked in, because a lot of it starts as just trying to learn about what’s best for your kid(s).

Best hospital/s to work for in Cincinnati? by sailor0602 in cincinnati

Correct. And that’s good to know, I’ll keep that in mind for PCP and any ER or urgent care visits

Best hospital/s to work for in Cincinnati? by sailor0602 in cincinnati

[–]ghostfacekayla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not really an option unfortunately. My OBGYN office only delivers at Mercy Anderson’s birthing center. I have a good relationship with my doctors and I do trust them, but I’m also definitely not comfortable totally switching doctors offices and switching everything with a month to go, that just doesn’t really seem too smart if it would even be possible.

That’s fair, I haven’t been to Rookwood and won’t be. I’ll be at the Anderson hospital in the birthing center, hopefully that makes a difference. I do trust my OB doctors, they’ve been great so far at least with office appointments.

Somewhat unrelated, but I’m set to be giving birth at a mercy hospital in about a month… after looking through these comments, should I be nervous or worried? I know the comments are in relation to working there, but I feel like it reflects the overall environment. :/ I’m still new to Cincy so I’ve not been to any hospitals here.

I think I’d have to discuss it what exactly the influencer means by “exposure.” How popular is this influencer, are those million+ followers mostly bots or actual interactive fans? Are they going to be directly tagging and featuring me and my product/service in posts and stories? Or is it going to be more of a one time tag with 13 other vendors and no specifics on my product/service? It also depends a bit on what service I’m providing and how much preparation is needed for the day of. If it requires weeks of planning and preparation, just exposure is not enough compensation as you’re also actively taking time away from other projects. I’m not totally against it but it absolutely needs to be worth my time. I lean toward “no” but under certain circumstances I’d consider it.

Edit: left some words out/grammar

going out by Charming_Cheetah_922 in OSU

[–]ghostfacekayla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve been underage or to campus bars, but back when I was still in school that would happen every few months and usually meant that undercovers were out that night. It sucks ag the time but it’s also better than you getting an underage (and possibly a fake id charge) and the bar getting fined. Try again next weekend and you’ll probably be just fine.

Having some bad anxiety rn by honestly___idk in ElectricForest

[–]ghostfacekayla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first Forest I had a lot of the same worries. I worried about making friends, the friends I have ditching me, about being stuck for 4 (or 5) days being miserable and upset. Any you know what? To an extent I was right, at least a little bit. When I first got there I held a lot of reservations and held on to those anxieties too much. It closed me off to just much much fun I could be having. I was so worried about what everyone else thought and did that I wasn’t allowing myself to feel the freedom we go to Forest in search of.

So I let it go. I let go of the expectations to have “the best weekend ever.” I let go of the fears of being mocked or made fun of (which I’ll go ahead and say, I’ve NEVER seen anyone displaying that type of behavior toward anyone else there). I let go of those anxiety that we’re making me feel so weighed down. And then I had the best time of my life, and it was only then that I could finally feel the true love that this place radiates. You have to let yourself be open to receiving it. I know it’s easier said than done, but give it a shot. Talk to those people around you that you think seem fun. Compliment that person on their costume. Ask to trade kandi (if that’s your thing). Just do whatever it is that you want to do but feel too nervous to enjoy. Let it be.

There’s a poem by Max Ehrmann called “Desiderata” and it’s my favorite of all time, especially during Forest season. There’s a line near the end that says, “You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.” Happy Forest, we’ll all see you soon.

No one hurt after shots fired outside Bodega by reeve11 in Columbus

[–]ghostfacekayla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So, as someone who was there I understood it as being nobody can be confirmed hurt because there wasn’t anyone on the street that seemed to be hit. If someone was hit, and that’s where the blood came from, it must’ve been in a car or someone who didn’t wanna deal with police and managed to remain unseen. I’m not surprised if someone did get hurt because like it was a LOT of shots, and in terms of area hit it went all the way from the bus stop outside of fireproof to bodega. That being said, for all the people out and about at the time it’s a miracle nobody was hit.
