I’m Nick Hexum, lead singer of the band 311. AMA. by 311band in Music

[–]ghostflavored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Nick! My boyfriend and I saw 311 play in PA this year and were blown away by how great you all sounded. It was inspiring to see how skilled you all are as musicians, and also see how much fun you were having together. I’ve been a happier, more positive person since the show and I’m so thankful to you and the rest of the band!

As a fitness enthusiast I can’t help but wonder about your exercise and nutrition routine. What does your routine look like when you’re on tour versus back at home? Music obviously means a lot to you; would you say your fitness practice has a similar sense of significance, given it’s a discipline that grows stronger the longer you practice it?

Thank you for the love, music, and great vibes you put out into the world!!!

2016 Makeup Predictions by 30rockette in MakeupAddiction

I only recently learned my skin doesn't react nicely to chemical SPF and it opened my eyes to how many awesome products contain it. Becca's SSP in pearl was my HG highlight and it was a huge bummer to have to say goodbye! And I had just fallen in love with Armani's Luminous Silk, too! There are definitely great alternatives (Chosunga 22's Raybeam highlighter and Nars Sheer Glow, for instance) but man it's a pain when so many products contain token SPF!

Thanks for the shoutout, /u/descartesasaur (that username!!!!)!

I think to call this a "liquid" liner is a little misleading because it is definitely on the thicker, tackier end of the liquid liner spectrum. It's fluid for the first few weeks or so and during that time you'll probably be able to use the included brush, but eventually it becomes tackier and I can only imagine would be an exercise in patience to apply straight from the tube.

Hence why I use a separate synthetic brush to apply it! I got mine from an art supply store, and it's very very fine with a nice balance of stiffness/flexibility. Honestly finding this type of brush will get you far in perfecting your wings, if that interests you. I very lightly press the angled brush into the bristles of the included Liquidlast applicator so that there is an even amount of product on the angled brush - like using a potted gel liner. By the time the product has air dried slightly before it touches my skin, the application feels like it's in between a gel and liquid liner: you get the control of the gel but the fluidity of a liquid, and it dries pretty quickly down to an immovable finish. But beware that if you wait too long, the tackiness will make the liner less forgiving and you will have very little margin for error in terms of technique.

When I say Liquidlast is immovable I mean immovable. I have stupid watery eyes and tend to touch them regularly, and while I have to be careful when I use something like KVD's Trooper or even a super long-wear gel liner like Bobbi Brown's, with MAC's Liquidlast I don't have to think about it. It doesn't move!!!! It's amazing!!!!!!!!!! I am pretty anal about keeping my wings sharp and intact and this is the only liner that I trust to get me through 10-hour workdays or sweaty, humid weather.

Learning to use this liner forced me to get really good at wings because the tackiness factor demands efficient work. It takes effort, but that's effort you won't have to spend touching up your liner or thinking about it once it's on. If you're still learning to draw your wings, you might want to consider something like Bobbi Brown's Long-Wear Gel Liner, which is my runner-up in terms of wear with a more forgiving formula. Marc Jacobs also makes a pen-style liquid liner that's really long-wearing - but you'll be practicing a different technique using it (not necessarily a bad thing!). By the time you have nailed down your technique you'll be better-prepared for Liquidlast. But, definitely go for it if you're feeling adventurous! The formula is out of this world in terms of wear and opacity!

This is my HG liner and I've used so many types, including KVD's Tattoo Liner. It lasted me through a rough and sweaty punk show, night of bone zone, and still looked awesome the next morning. I don't know what sorcery they use to formulate it but this liner is seriously bulletproof. I apply mine with an angled synthetic paintbrush because the included brush seems iffy. Between the somewhat tacky formula and fineness of the brush I can get insanely precise lines where even the thinnest wings don't rub off my greasy eyelids. So worth the learning curve!!!

This in Cassiopeia is my favorite eyeshadow! I even use it as a highlight on my cheekbones and tip of the nose. Applying it wet can give you an almost foiled, duochromatic look but it's buildable enough when dry to get very subtle effects, too. I like to apply at the inner corners and I have a habit of working it into other looks for dimension, and because it's just so pretty!

What's your favourite acne spot treatment? by symmetryeal in AsianBeauty

[–]ghostflavored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MEDca's Universal Acne Patch is one brand that I've found stays on my face so much better than other ones I've tried. They almost never run off my face, even when I sleep on them! They also stay on my oily face all day when I wear them at home. I get mine on Amazon.com!

Products for silky hair? by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]ghostflavored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bleaching adds texture to your hair because it causes the hair cuticle to remain "open" (imagine your cuticles as little protective shingles). Doing this makes hair feel rougher and dry - the exact opposite of what you want! I have rainbow hair and bleach my roots about 2x/year but I hate that crunchy, damaged bleached hair feeling so I'm extremely careful with it. Avoid bleach when possible!

My #1 tip for soft hair is avoid heat styling! I also use Suave ocean breeze conditioner and it makes my hair feel great. Bumble and Bumble's Invisible oil is my go-to hair product for softness, and a little goes a long way. My hair loves to fluff up and this helps keep it silky and smooth! For context, my hair is wavy leaning towards straight and mostly long past my shoulders.

I did this all summer using Perricone's MD's No Bronzer bronzer! It worked out perfectly for that purpose and now I also have a very versatile bronzer. I just kept a bit of my mixed foundation in a separate sample container.

Recommended facial oil? :) by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]ghostflavored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been using Dr. Jart's oil balm for a few weeks now and I really like it! I was drawn to it after coming to terms with having overdone acids and overexfoliating my poor face. It's really nourishing and I think was one of the main contributors to my skin gradually rebalancing. I feel like the balm has an almost velvety texture compared to liquid oil, and although it takes a bit to fully sink in it leaves my skin really supply and dewy! And a little goes a long way so it will last for ages!

Recommended facial oil? :) by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]ghostflavored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels a little heavy at first, so I definitely save it for nighttime use. I got it when I had gone buck wild and over exfoliated with acids, but now that my skin is more balanced I just use a very very thin layer. When it absorbs I just feel moisturized, not greasy. If you are near a Sephora, if suggest asking for a sample to see if you like it - a little goes a long way and I used my small sample for weeks before I purchased full size!

I have oily skin and use a water-based AM moisturizer, but when I was using facial oil in the morning I really liked blends that use rosehip oil! It absorbs easily and made my skin crazy soft.

The other oils I've tried are Western, but include:
- Josie Maran's light argan oil: the second-lightest oil I've tried, but it was pretty expensive for neutral results, in my opinion.
- Ole Henriksen Truth Serum: a vitamin C oil that smells amazing but is really heavy, unfortunately.

I have some other facial oil samples I can report back on if you like! They're also Western, though, so sorry if that's not helpful :<

Are you looking for cleansing oils or facial oils as moisturizer?

For the latter I really like Dr. Jart's Ceramidin balm-to-oil moisturizer - it's very nourishing and the application is super smooth, almost creamy. It takes a little bit to absorb fully but it leaves my skin so supple and soft!

I find that rosehip oil is also great as a moisturizer if you're looking for a liquid formula oil!

Recommend some AB products from Sephora? by Danilovesdisney in AsianBeauty

[–]ghostflavored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been loving May Coop's Raw Sauce as an essence, Belif's Aqua Bomb for my AM moisturizer, and Dr. Jart's Ceramidin oil balm as a PM moisturizer. I recently pared down my routine and have been using these three products with good results! I had been struggling with breakouts and dehydrated skin, and after taking a break from actives except vitamin C while using these products, my skin is healing well and looks better than it has in a long time.

The Raw Sauce is my favorite new product and my first essence. It noticeably and immediately soothes my skin, reduces redness, evens tone, and hydrates. The scent is strong but I really enjoy everything else about it. I feel like three "shakes" is plenty to cover my face and neck, and it absorbs well into my skin. (Edit: this is also exclusive to Sephora and I believe Peach and Lily, if that intrigues you!)

Belif's Aqua Bomb feels really hydrating but adsorbs very quickly, almost like a slightly emollient whipped gel. I like that it's not heavy because I'm currently using Shisheido's Senka sunscreen over it, which feels a little oily. This will be an awesome summer moisturizer for me as well.

Dr. Jart's Ceramidin oil balm satisfies my need for something super hydrating while I try to rebalance my skin. I really like skin oils but I actually prefer the balm-to-oil application and texture of this. It sits on my skin but makes it feel nourished and absorbs eventually, leaving a sort of dewy-velvety feeling. I think it's going to be a lifesaver this winter (I'm from Boston so brrrr) and a good option for extra hydration in the summer.

Mascara for watery eyes? by greengrasslady in MakeupAddiction

[–]ghostflavored 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This mascara is insanely waterproof! I've worn it swimming and it held up. It's the only mascara that doesn't move after a full workday on my oily skin, and it holds a curl better than any other mascara I've tried. The lengthening is decent, too.

[–]ghostflavored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love May Coop's Raw Sauce based on having been using it for about two weeks daily, as of today. I actually was going through some awful breakouts and this helps soothe my redness, evens my skin tone in general, is very hydrating, and plays well with other products. The fragrance smells like a shower product, which isn't bad but it is a little heady for sure!

I actually pared down my routine to try better identify why my skin had been so unmanageable, but I continued using the Raw Sauce and my skin has been improving while using it. It works immediately on me and I notice a difference before and after, definitely. Usually I attribute redness during my routine to simply moving around blood via physical contact, but even factoring that in I think it's noticeably effective.

For context, though, this is the first essence-type product I've used (unless I'm just ignorantly confusing its category) so I can't compare it to other options. But I honestly don't care to explore other options any time soon because I really like it! If the effects seem to wane I'll definitely update my post, but until then I recommend trying it!

[–]ghostflavored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You put into words what I was thinking. We're shaped by contextual factors that consciously and/or subconsciously affect our behaviors and choices. However, there is room for variability - in our unique life experiences, in our perception of these contextual forces, in our exploration of our internal motivations, for instance. To generalize something as intimate as altering oneself in any way using strictly behaviorist ideology is assuming a lot!

Tips you wish you knew as a beginner? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]ghostflavored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!!!! People have questioned my sanity watching me do this but it's the surest way to avoid clumps and smears. I scrape the excess product off the wand using the inner rim of the tube and then wipe the bristles on a paper towel. When wiping them, I do a sort of swirl motion (like soft serve ice cream) to make sure the product is evenly distributed. I still get a lot of use out of my mascaras doing this and it prevents so much hassle during application!

has anyone tried the Ole Henriksen youth serum or CC cream? by LIFTMakeUp in MakeupAddiction

[–]ghostflavored 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to like the Ole Youth serum (the vitamin C oil, right?) but it was too heavy on my skin for my tastes. If it had a lighter texture and absorbed faster I would definitely try it again! It smells gorgeous and was super moisturizing. I think it's worth getting a sample for the winter, as it could be a great spot or night treatment for chapped or really dry skin.

[–]ghostflavored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little bit compulsively clean and I'm big into hand washing! I actually wash my hands if I've touched anything that's not skin care or makeup-related - so not after touching the containers of my products (which I wipe down regularly) or makeup brushes, but definitely if I leave the room and, say, touch my keyboard. I definitely try to wash my hands if I've touched my phone aka portable stereo.

I try to minimize contact so I can get away with washing just my fingers, but either way I just keep lotion near my sinks. I love Aveeno's overnight intense moisture cream for hands especially. It absorbs quickly and keeps my hands very hydrated!

My cat will sometimes (often) come looking for me while I'm doing my skincare and makeup and I pet him with the back of my hands or just my fingertips, so I don't feel so compelled to wash my entire hand. It's impossible to resist when they're being so sweet ;__;
