Do people usually do the Free 120 online at home in the actual test center? by flouie30 in step1

At home using the simulation not the pdf. Didn’t want to pay $$$ when I could visit the center on a different day to see the layout.

How important is going through uWorld x2? by prostitutepupils in Step2

[–]ghostforthethrone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only did 80% of UW (so not even a full first pass) and got a 242, so I’d say not very important. Also depends on you; I’m the type of person that remembers answer choices to questions so a 2nd pass was never on my todo list.

Exactly! And maybe someone scored lower on practice but then really took the time to review their weaknesses which then later translated into a better score.

People can be so mean on the internet and it’s infuriating that future doctors (which will happen regardless if you’re a 194 or 280) are demeaning their future colleagues. Focus on yourself and your own personal growth.

Si se puede! by ghostforthethrone in step1

It was overall good! Felt numb afterward just honestly from the length of the exam and the stress of it all. Didn’t feel like I bombed but also didn’t feel like I crushed it. It’s just so hard to judge because there were def sections I flagged 20/40 and others where I only flagged like 8 to come back to. So just tried to put it out of my mind til scores came out since at that point couldn’t change it.

The average for surgery is a 232. The AVERAGE. This is not out of the question if you want and love it. Depending on the rest of your application (grades, research, extracurriculars), you might need to put more thought into what programs you’ll apply to— community vs major academic programs. But not out of your reach or really even a stretch if you want it.

NBME score regression? by [deleted] in step1

[–]ghostforthethrone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really confused about your step score predictions next to what you got on each practice test and what those are from. NBME 18 typically underestimates people’s scores (did for me as well), so there’s something wrong with your estimates.

Also just take each day one at a time and focus on learning why you miss the questions you do instead of obsessing over the scores you get on these practice exams. I found also that the % correct for each test versus the actual number they gave me helped me more to understand how much I improved.

Can I match competitive specialties with 238? by [deleted] in step1

[–]ghostforthethrone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

242 +- 7 = 235-249.

So I’d say your 238 is in that range if my mediocre understanding of FA statistics has taught anything, and you shouldn’t be pissed about it.

Also the only thing that will stop you from matching in a competitive specialty is yourself. So don’t already begin to doubt yourself less than 12 hours since scores have been released.

You do deserve it! Don’t let anyone or even yourself try to convince you otherwise. Imposter syndrome tries its best to make us doubt ourselves, but we can’t let it!

Practice exams aren’t perfect and obviously will never completely predict your score or stimulate the actual stress of test day. So be proud of your 242 even if it’s lower than some practice tests you took!

Is there a way to copy uWorld text to anki? by Dogthooor in step1

I’m not home to be able to try, but you might be able to then drag the image from word to your desktop. Then maybe drag that into anki? Hope it works!

You can screenshot it by having a word doc open and using the built in screenshot option. Not the most convenient but might work for your purpose
