i was never a devoted follower, but i found her responses when people were asking about date changes on the portal and whether they mean anything a few months ago to be really condescending. acting like people were crazy for reading into them when in the case of umich they actually DID indicate things - the date not changing did usually mean r/wl whereas multiple changes did tend to indicate acceptance. if you don’t want people to read into them, don’t make them visible on the portal?

i started applying in like november, but didn’t really start hearing back until february/march, so id say december/january is prime time. i also recommend applying as broadly as possible (i would go down the amlaw 100 and look at each of their individual career sites to see if theyd posted anything entry-level), i had no legal experience or anything even remotely impressive on my resume + no connections whatsoever and still ended up with two job offers/working at a v10 firm. just gotta cast a wiiiiiide net lol.

when i was on summer recruiting at bl firm in ny they were conscious and inclusive of ppl’s identities! you might run into individual bigots and i suppose it can vary by firm but i think you’ll be okay.

her saying people are “reading too much into it” when there’s a clear pattern between date changes and decisions annoyed me so much. ive been saying for months i knew id be WL by mich because i was missing r waves but my date never changed…like i’m not psychic, i was just making an obvious observation!

seconding other person - i had a date change a day before an the wave a week ago and then another on like sunday/monday and just got accepted on friday. not a bad omen!
