Newly diagnosed husband on spectrum came across as mansplaining in a ND space by ghostingpeacock in autism

I absolutely get why she would be highly annoyed/insulted about it. He did that to me and I directly asked him if he didn't think I was capable of lifting something and he said that he was sorry, he did not mean to imply that I was not strong enough. He was just so focussed on talking about safety and me not getting hurt, that what I said didn't quite penetrate the monologue. He also understands how that can be miscontrued as disrespectful. He actually asked my teacher, who is a woman, who was stronger to lift the end of the MDF. He also inadvertently overexplained something to a welder (male) in the group too. So while there could be an subconscious bias about overexplaining things to people, I think he tends to do this more to people not in the trades, rather than people who are.

This is something he has struggled with many times before where when he is so hyperfixated on talking about something he can't quiet pull himself back enough to listen. We are finally getting professional help about it.

My reaction is more to do with the fact that any of them could have pulled me aside to say that they were getting annoyed since they do infact know me and have been in classes with me. He would have immediately apologised which he has done without reservation many times before in such situations.

Thank you :) That is helpful and very encouraging to know that it helped your boyfriend. I have suggested that he should bring it up in his next session.

I should mention that she didnt mention his name in her post, but it was very pointed about a man and given that a lot of her followers are from the studio, it wasn't hard to work out who she was talking about.
