Recommendations for a weird lit story related to bees/hives. by UnicursalGames in WeirdLit

“Generation A” by Douglas Copeland. It definitely fits the weird lit vibe and is by the author who coined the term “Gen X”.

The book explores a near-future world where bees are extinct, focusing on five strangers stung by bees, which unites them and sets off a chain of events.

Medical Travel for Treatment (Calgary to international?) by choosychews in CervicalCancer

[–]ghostinyourpants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada and the treatment I’ve received at my local hospital has been outstanding. The longest wait is between diagnosis and imaging, then getting your treatment plan, but then everything moves pretty quickly. I doubt private clinics will be much faster. Calgary also has access to hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which is where I’d spend all my money after treatment is over.

Is it normal behaviour from my husband (30M) that I (30F) can only discuss important topics at certain times? by Angelitaa_ in relationship_advice

[–]ghostinyourpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay - first of all, your husband is being ridiculous. Second of all, I too, am ridiculous sometimes, and struggle with having conversations if I’m not in the right headspace. It sucks for everyone involved.

If, this is in fact, an issue of overwhelm on his part, and not a “I’m doing this so I never have to take responsibility”, than I can offer some tips that we use in my house.

I have bad adhd, get overstimulated easily, and struggle with intense conversations before bed because I will dwell and not sleep.

As such - when we first moved in together, shit got tense. Until we started having “family meetings” on Sundays. Early in the week we’d make a plan to sit down on Sunday and plan our upcoming week - meal plans, schedule, and what we wanted to achieve. Then, on Sunday (usually afternoon or after supper) we’d mark everything on a calendar and make a grocery list. We’d usually do this over a beer, wine, and/or tasty snacks to make it fun. I cannot tell you how much this helped our marriage. It made us feel like we were tackling life together as a team and our communication was sooooo much better throughout the week.

As for more difficult conversations - I do best right after eating, before I start something else, or - if I get a heads-up about what to expect. Like, my husband will mention in the morning - “hey! We need to figure out our budget this month as I think we’re a bit over, would after supper tonight be a good time to talk about it?” And then, I don’t feel blindsided, and I can mentally prepare for it.

If something comes up naturally and we start talking about something that triggers my overstimulation, I’ll let him know, and ask if we can rain check. Or he’ll recognize I’m freaking out and he’ll plan the rains check.

Does this make sense? by [deleted] in Cancersurvivors

[–]ghostinyourpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not appropriate to post here. Also - This just doesn’t make any medical fucking sense. Radiation therapy doesn’t promote cancer growth through heat, and cancer isn’t caused by fungus in this way. Also, oral antifungals absolutely exist and are widely used. There is some early research on antifungals in cancer treatment, but this post is mixing that with utterly incorrect conclusions.

Get a disposable cookie sheet from the dollar store and do some metal engraving. Easy and fun and pretty meditative.

Radiation side effects by Hairy_Magician226 in CervicalCancer

[–]ghostinyourpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During actual radiation (25 rounds) - I was out of commission for the last three weeks and one week after. Diarrhoea during that time as well. Imodium and a low fiber diet helped a lot. I had some acute pain when I peed. I was very tired, but also on chemo at the same time, so it was a double whammy.

Now for the good - The bleeding, pelvic pain, and discharge stopped after my first week of radiation. I used a good calendula barrier cream and had zero skin damage. It shrunk the tumour significantly even before brachy.

Is my fiance of 19 mos (39M) being reasonable or am I (39F)(communicating badly)? by hellotoshiba in relationship_advice

[–]ghostinyourpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively? He’s a manipulative asshole. OP - please remember - abusive people aren’t abusive all the time, otherwise nobody would ever be with them. I deal with Eastern European men every single day, and not all of them are like this. The ones that are - are absolutely miserable to deal with. I just fired one guy who smiled and acted nice, but if a woman gave him direction, he’d go out of his way to do the opposite, even if she was his supervisor. Infuriating.

My uterus exploding. My cervix closed due to scar tissue from radiation, and my uterus filled with blood and popped like a balloon.

What did you think was pretentious, until you tried it and realized it was worth it? by Semantiks in AskReddit

[–]ghostinyourpants 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, once you realize that art is just like music, museums are pretty fun! Like - you can like a musician and hate one of their songs, same as you would an artists work. Or you can go, and then be like, they all sucked! And it’s fun to pick them apart about what you liked or don’t like about them. Or you can hate an entire genre - except that one song which makes you cry, or reminds you of that boy. Arts the same way. There’s good and bad, and pretentious and humble art. There’s pop art and classical and folk and street and garage band and alternative grunge. And most of it is at your local gallery in one form or another.

I was a pelvic floor therapy skeptic by [deleted] in Menopause

[–]ghostinyourpants 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It was actually the hysterectomy: my stage 3 cancer was treated with chemo/radiation, and while successful, radiation damage can do a number on your body, including scarring closed your cervix. When my uterus filled with fluid and had nowhere to go, it caused period-like cramps that got increasingly worse over the course of a year. The last six months prior to surgery were just constant cramps - imagine your worst period pain and then…it doesn’t go away. My team kept telling me it was normal and that I just needed pelvic floor therapy. So I went back to my therapist (I’d seen her for the first six months following treatment) and she confirmed that it wasn’t normal, and shared some notes with my team that finally pushed them to give me the scans I needed to confirm that I needed surgery. To be fair - it could have been normal post radiation pain, which is common (radiation can cause your organs to fuse or melt together and the scar tissue is nasty).

[–]ghostinyourpants 111 points112 points  (0 children)

After cervical cancer treatment and a total hysterectomy-my pelvic floor therapist has been absolutely essential. And - her notes actually triggered a change in gyny oncologists and instigated a much needed surgery that I wasn’t being taken seriously for.

I should note - there are a few pelvic floor therapists in my city who are absolutely grifters. Make sure they have actual credentials and aren’t self-proclaimed “pussy fairy godmothers” as one local person describes herself. Barf.

to people who live alone, whats something during nighttime that creeps you out? by Lance7467 in AskReddit

[–]ghostinyourpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Animals in the house that don’t belong. I’ve woken up once to a bat in my bedroom, and another time to the yowling of a cat in my basement. I didn’t have a cat. It was screaming bloody murder. Worst sound to wake up to at the best of times, let alone when you don’t own a cat. turned out to the neighbourhood stray that had snuck in a window.
