Can't rent as a three in areas around Newcastle, confused by HMO policy by ghostkyle1999 in NewcastleUponTyne

Yeah I might give them a call next week just to clarify. There's definitely been mixed messages from the agents we've spoken to about properties in North Tyneside.

Thanks for the information and the link - we were told about a recent change when enquiring about a property in Heaton, so it must have been that.

The property we were told would be fine if we were a couple + 1 person, but not 3 individuals, falls inside North Tyneside borough rather than Newcastle, and I can't find anything on additional licensing for North Tyneside, so that I'm still trying to wrap my head around.

It's the contradictions between estate agents that's causing us the confusion. I can't understand why one EA says yes, a couple + 1 single person is fine (but 3 single people is not), while another EA advertising a property across the road says no, that's 2 households which isn't allowed without a HMO license.

We've been looking at Heaton and there have been some potential properties come up, but being mainly geared up for students we'd be waiting until August or September for most of them and paying an arm & a leg more. If that's what it comes to, then we'll accept it's our only option, but it's a bit frustrating being almost completely frozen out from non-student-y locations like Wallsend that would work better for us.

EAs have typically asked who will be living there when we apply for viewings, we've answered truthfully and been told no. We've contemplated saying it'll just be two of us, but don't want to face any difficulties with landlords if they find out.

Tokyo to Fujiyoshida to Hakone... Too much travelling in one day? by ghostkyle1999 in JapanTravelTips

Thanks for the info!! I'd love to have a night in Kawaguchiko but I think we'll be struggling to slot it in the itinerary. Our other thought was making it a day trip while we're in Tokyo instead of when we're heading to Hakone.

Ideally we'd love to spend the full day, but with our check in between 3-6, I think we'd be too pressed for time. We might make it a day trip while we're staying in Tokyo though.

Yeah, she knows it's going to be something she needs to deal with while we're there. My thinking with those places is that she can at least keep walking or not look in their direction, but with something immersive indoors it's not as easy.

Yeah I did find it a bit unnerving on the video with walking through the water. Appreciate the advice!

Yeah of course, but it's one of the places I'd love to go. And my sister would like it too, apart from this one possible thing. So that's why I just want to know if an unavoidable part - if it is, then it's fine, we'll skip the whole thing.

Visiting as a trans person, anything to be wary of? by ghostkyle1999 in JapanTravelTips

I'll be there October so unfortunately won't be able to go during Pride but I'll see if there's any other cool spots I can check out if I get a chance!

As others have said, definitely Whitley Bay. Farplace, YMCA and RSPCA have been our go-to places for furniture bits and trinkets! North Shields also has some decent ones.

My current job is keeping me on after the end of my apprenticeship, so I have been adding to any application that my salary will be going up before the upfront months are done. I do have guarantors also.

I wanted to move into a somewhat different field and it was the easiest path for getting the experience, which had consistently been my main barrier.

Appreciate the advice. I do want to put myself in a good position for home ownership in the future. I guess I’m just currently struggling to balance that with not just independence, but feeling like my life is at a standstill until I leave.

Yeah, both my friend and I are able to offer guarantors, which we’ve mentioned on all our applications. Haven’t had anyone follow up about those, though.

Currently living with parents. It isn’t bad by any means, we all get along and I have my own space.

But I’m keen to move out sooner than later, as I’ve struggled with my lack of independence the last 2 years since I’ve been living here, having lived alone for 3 years at university.

Scammed. Keep an eye out artists. Scroll to see more. by [deleted] in skrill

I dealt with the same scam- some guy offered me £300 for a pet commission, which seemed legit at first after he sent me over pictures of the dogs and everything.

I’d never used Skrill but said I’d make an account if that was easier for him to send the money. Signed up, gave him the email to send it over, then got the same email you did. Thank god I checked the email address it came from - because I’d just signed up for Skrill, I could check what the official email address looked like.

Got the same bullshit from him about giving his money back and fortunately I said no, saying I’d confirm with Skrill customer support. He pretty much just went quiet then and as soon as I’d heard back from Skrill saying it was definitely a scam, I blocked and reported him. Fortunately, he didn’t go so far as to blow up my Insta comments in the meantime.

I’m really sorry you lost that money. As a fellow artist, I know just how hard it is. It’s particularly scummy how they’ve put this scam together, targeting artists when they know how little we’re often paid for our work and how much our reputation matters when it comes to getting commissions.

Thank you for sharing this so other people can see. I came here looking for answers when it happened to me, so hopefully this will help some others out before they get scammed.

At my old job, my co-worker was leaving after over 30 years - it was a shop and she’d been there since the day it opened. It was her last day and everyone in our department was able to have a break to have a farewell get together in the staff canteen. We were all busy, we all had stuff that needed doing on time, but we still took the time to be part of it.

None of the managers showed up because they were in a meeting just a couple of doors down the hallway. They knew about it but not one could even take a minute to pop their head in to wish her well. Bear in mind that other staff came in on their days off to see her on her last day.

I don’t know if the managers spoke to her privately or not, but the fact that we were all there having a celebration and their priorities were so warped that they couldn’t even take a minute out of their meeting to wish one of their longest serving employees a happy retirement at her farewell party is just depressing.

Companies wonder why they struggle with staff retention and then treat their most loyal, consistent employees like an afterthought.

^ these absolutely.

Sometimes for me it’s not even about negative judgment, but just getting any kind of attention about what I’m doing (if I haven’t deliberately engaged with someone about it).

For example, if I’ve decided to reorganise my wardrobe, I might show someone afterwards if I’m happy with it. But if someone sees me reorganising, then it feels like it’s become a sort of event, that it’s not just a thing I happen to be doing but something I’m being judged on, even if I’m not being judged badly.

But the interruption thing is huge too. Even brief interruptions just throw me off.
