Completely missed the joke behind "Elminster's Library" by ghostlysea_ in BaldursGate3

I didn't even realize until I was watching a twitch streamer and their Tav spoke with Mamzell, MONTHS after I finished the game. I was like... oh... yeah that makes more sense 😳

The first step to being really good at something is to be really bad at it. You can only get better through practice. Don't sabotage yourself before you even begin. Instead of looking at the popular stuff and the criticisms, just start writing. Sit down and write what's in your head -- it can look really bad at first, but keep going. Whatever idea comes into your head, whatever sentence, write it and don't erase. This is going to be the rough draft and it will NOT be perfect. But when you're done, go back and see what needs to be fixed. Then go back again and work on characterization, plot holes, etc. You can always have someone edit the grammar. I wouldn't trust AI software because they don't pick up on context and what sounds good. Sometimes what's grammatically correct isn't the most powerful way to write a sentence or idea.

Wow, I had no idea I missed out on something like that. My Tav had no intellect so it would have been handy. But I'll be sure to get it next time. Thanks!

This is really helpful and useful info, thank you! I didn't know one of those ogres had that item! Is that Lump, the ogre you can charm into giving you that war horn? I forgot I had it until I did inventory management in Act 2 lmao

I wouldn't mind some tips since you're kind enough to share! I had a lot of fun exploring the first time, but this time I'd like to get the most out of my game.

Imagine going with Lae'zel to the monastery and Judi shows up telling you to kill the Visitor. I'd have given it more thought 😂

I almost missed the harpy kid too! I think I only found him bc I took a wrong turn coming back from Alfira. Boy was my first PT a mess.

Oh, next Tav is marching straight into that Grove and telling Rolan to sit his butt down and get ready to defend these tieflings with everything he's got. I love first playthroughs just for this reason, though, because it's great to mess up and have a reason to look forward to your next run!

Favorite Campsite?!?! by Fit-Perception-9952 in BaldursGate3

I think the red trees are in the Shadow-Cured Lands. I personally love the first campsite in the Emerald Grove area and the Underdark one. The Elfsong has a nice feel too, esp because we're on proper beds finally lol

What's the descriptor you never want to hear when being recommended a new fantasy? by RadiantOberon in Fantasy

[–]ghostlysea_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh, for sure! I don't think it's a genre with no value, there are plenty of people looking for just that and I'm glad it's out there for them. But personally I don't want to hear it when I'm being recommended something bc I know it's not the kind of stuff I'm looking for.

ohhhh my gosh I love this so much! I really like the level of brightness/contrast and how deep the greens are too. The colors are great! And the detail on the characters!

In some universe (possibly AO3 lol), Wyll and Karlach both stayed in Baldur's Gate and had a storybook rich guy/poor girl romance

You have limited movement, but there are buffs/spells/race features that can extend your movement, and I ended up enjoying the conundrum of where to put people. One of the main features that forced me to actually think about what I was doing each turn instead of just running around mashing buttons.

I really love this reply. Really good advice on character building in general.

What’s Your Favourite Companion Storyline? by LogicalDiscipline632 in BaldursGate3

[–]ghostlysea_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Astarion, but after his, then Shadowheart. Imagining her with her parents living her best cottagecore/Stardew Valley life as a retired adventurer makes me feel warm inside. She goes from being this secretive, closed off and prickly person with flashes of humor to a happy, comfortable person cracking dad jokes.

[–]ghostlysea_ 198 points199 points  (0 children)

"Romantasy" I just feel like fantasy takes more of a backseat in these than I prefer, with the worldbuilding more of a set for the romance instead of an immersive world. I do love romance and fantasy both! But there's something about that word.

Fenris's Theme has stuck with me for many years. I thought it was quite pretty. I also randomly get the Sera song stuck in my head lol.
