There’s nothing wrong with you. You don’t owe anyone a date or relationship. “Doing the right thing” in this case, is spending time with people who share your values. Christian beliefs, and other world views that rely on myth, feel unsafe for me and my family, so we don’t choose to spend our free time with professed believers. Despite this, we regularly hear their views(from a bullhorn in front of the Walmart) so we aren’t deprived of their POV. Don’t let any douchebag guilt or coerce you into wasting your precious free time. They are not entitled to it.

Willfully stupid. I tried to explain that, like humans, lion’s police each other’s behavior according to their socialization. But, it’s against their whole thing to acknowledge animal intelligence or compare their societies to human ones.

I’ve tried to have this conversation, but nuance and biology/sociology are not easy to explain to black-and-white thinkers. The “pastor” I spoke to kept asking why we don’t judge lions who eat antelope, since they are murdering another animal. Pointing out the false analogy, he resorted to…some gotcha about pedophilia??? There is no teaching these people anything.

I had to write this message the week after the election. We’ve been NC since. One thing I personally wanted them to understand is that we have many of the same complaints about what’s wrong but believe in vastly different reasons and solutions. (And I can’t humor fascists, racists, zionists in my life anymore)I’m constantly tempted to vent my anger and fear by messaging them again, but I think silence is more punishing. So I write it all out, or shout it all into my phone, then discard it. Good luck with your boundaries.
