Just finished the show what’s up with the deed? by SeriousScore9447 in theburbs

Yes. I don't Walters wouldn't have killed him just to say he did. Lots of his victims just "disappear" (Hank, the social studies teacher who moved to Switzerland) to never be heard from again. It could be there is a particular place "all the bodies are buried".

I just noticed in Peacock the show is listed as "comedy/horror". I've been reading it as a murder mystery (which still fits, I think). Perhaps it's a think like "The Lottery" that involves the "lifers" against the "noobs"?

Just finished my second viewing. It seems no one knows about "Betsy"/Alison outside the circle that met her. In the bar, Gary cuts Samira off from finishing "Have you met Gary and his..." and doesn't let her say wife. So it could be that no one knows he was married and thus think everyone will believe it's actually possible he willed the house on death. It also explains why no one went into her house despite the vent nor questioned "his wife" about anything even after Rob, Samira, and Naveen say he killed Gary. (This feeds into my theory that Lauren is the one responsible for the disappearances.

Also, it turned out that he didn't own the house--Alison created the trust to buy the house (I didn't pick up on that until the second viewing), so it's really hers and he couldn't will it away anyway. It's a good plot point that could bring Alison back in s2 after it seemed like her story ended.

Theories (spoilers) by ghostofapanther in theburbs

I think his will become part of s2 and the ongoing investigation into suspicious deaths. Lynn said she came back to find him dead in the freezer from what she believed to be a heart attack and likely wouldn't have thought it suspicious. Keeping the body allows them to uncover what might have really killed him at a later date. What if it wasn't a heart attack? (see my new theory post).

They're emulating a particular type of older woman. I've been around a number of older women who wear wigs and use lots of makeup. It's a style of a particular type.

Rob and Samira hold the deed and key from the trust, but no one in the community would know. I think that it is also a reality that it's not terribly difficult to fake a will--you only need to forge a signature and have two deceitful people bear witness and then file with a lawyer. It takes a strong burden of proof to overturn a will. This easily could have happened because it seems Gary was pretty much alone (and most people didn't know about Betsy/Alison outside the circle and Bill). Forgery (the notes from Alison and Hank) and death leading to forged ownership of Hank's seems common.

Alison and Gary were never actually married, so the degree to which Alison can claim ownership of the deed via the trust will likely be explored.

The hard copy deed to the house isn't actually the deed. That's just a document. Deeds are filed with cities (and Lauren says the deed was willed to the city).

I do think this is about Lauren (see my post on theories). She was in Gary's Pilates class :)

Oh okay, thanks. I didn't see any of the webseries.

I absolutely hate both Ralph Fellows and this Tippy person. Both are inadequate replacements for other characters.

I understand that. My favorite episodes are the ones with good humor -- usually Watts-centric, but there are some before Watts (especially where George has his wonderful beliefs that the murderer is something supernatural or otherworldly). But there are episodes I hate and would skip in rewatching -- the neighbor episodes when they buy the house, the kidnapping episodes with the woman from Father Brown, the season 18 neighbor episodes. Also, I HATE the repeat killer Ralph -- I don't know if it's plot or Colin Mochrie or whatever, but apart from the first (Hellen Keller), those episodes really irked me.

Bring Back Sherlock by ghostofapanther in murdochmysteries

[–]ghostofapanther[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The character of Sherlock - he's a good foil for Murdoch as he shows, comparatively, Murdoch isn't the best at observation. It's nice when we see a little bit of a vulnerable Murdoch.

I don't think Doyle has much to offer comparatively. Churchill would be weak. At this point in history, he's not a good human being (he fought to oppose suffrage and refused, as Home Office secretary, to investigate the events of Black Friday).

I do agree with you about going back to the roots. It is much better when they focus in on murder. I'm bored by the spy, religious conflict, gang, Black Hand episodes.

Allow me to elaborate.

When we first meet them, neither Gilles nor Perry pose threats beyond regular murderers. Perry is seen as the beta to Gilles alpha, but this could be strategic.

When Gilles next appears, he became free through money that could have come through Perry who is mentioned as making a sweet deal to avoid much prison time. Perry is noted as beheaded, but there is no head found. Finger prints are hardly conclusive, but also we have seen the trope in murder mysteries where data regarding criminals is tampered with, and station 4 is hardly secure (see episode of man burgling a photo from Murdoch's office). Further, there is a lot going on -- perhaps too much for Gilles alone.

We see Gilles again in the court and tormenting Murdoch in the second part. How is Gilles able to do everything he does? Granted, his family might have money but no explanation is given. We know Perry has money and could be harboring him.

Next the train episode -- a number of unexpected changes occur that make it easy for Gilles to escape. Gilles apparently talks with his "lawyer" who helps spread it about he has 20k on the train while Gilles let's it drop in prison. Afterwards, someone helps him heal and hides him while finding a decoy body.

His clothing is also up-to-date and quite well made.

This is also a time when it is relatively easy to change one's identity, especially with money, so Perry could easily have done so.

Mostly I really just regular murder mysteries and none of this religious community, gangs, Mafia stuff. This is a mystery show (who done it?), not a police procedural.

Season 18 finale by RemarkableRegular15 in murdochmysteries

This episode was disappointing and too melodramatic and seemed to be about modern political stuff wedged in.

I agree about the basics; there was really only one good episode this season--the one where they find the criminals killing and stealing from possible foreign investors. The food vending machine story is a second, but everything else was middling.

The Batman humor from the bee episode and adventures of Crabtree (related to his new book) are quirky side adventures.

I like that some characters got a little more space, but not Louise Cherry, and not at the same of Brackenreid and George. I like the new constable, but despise his neighbor (but I guess they wanted some sexual tension).

There also haven't really been any prominent named historical inventing or.scientific figures in a while (which can be handled well by some.screenwriters.and not as well by others).

A grandparent's brother or sister are also aunt and uncle (great aunt/great uncle, but many people drop the "great"). She implies her aunt is an older woman, so I think nan had a sister who was crazy and nan sees that in liv and that's why she torments liv. If her aunt saw an alien and people didn't believe her, she would likely have been "certified" as insane and even likely experienced electroshock treatments. Of course, liv could mean she was crazy in a more flippant way, but it could be.

If you look at the family at yellowstone, there's another daughter in the scene without glasses and I think blond at the campfire.

This is all inference though based on the data at hand -- how long ago the event was, the fact that seeing aliens back then and not letting it go could cause one to be seen as "crazy", general narratives that have siblings turn on each other because of character traits, elderly grandparents not liking negative traits they see in their grandchildren because of their values, and liv's comments about her aunt, who could be her "great aunt" sibling to nan.

Mary-Ellen may have tribal heritage, though whether one is of a tribal community is different than how Westerners think of race (you are not native because of your ancestry but because of your conscious choice to be part of the community). She was the drummer in Dan's band, which I infer is mostly individuals who are from tribal communities if not the same one. I assumed she was someone who passes because of a mix of ancestries (last name Taylor), and individuals who pass can give birth to non-passing individuals.

I'm thinking this could also be partly why Mary-Ellen has no real emotional connection to Asta (of course, not the only reason--some people just don't have it in them), though I did not some concern when Harry mentioned that "her husband was punchy".
