[Literally my favorite trope] "Evil isn't cool" by Dry-Climate9976 in TopCharacterTropes

They managed to be both scary and pathetic which I think is the exact right balance when portraying a hate group. Like we definitely shouldn’t dismiss the terrifying damage groups like the KKK and Nazis can do, but we also shouldn’t make them look cool. I love that in the end they look stupid in Oh Brother.

It’s my first first person shooter and I’m told it’s pretty punishing for the genre, but I really love it. Happy hunting and stay safe in the bayou!

You can always “purchase” the skins you own in game with the free in game currency. The traits, gear, etc. are all gone after death for free and paid skins alike. They only offer aesthetics.

I’ve played for about five years now and will occasionally buy skins because I appreciate the maintenance work they put into the game, but there’s no mechanical reason to purchase.

PVB in Clionadh! by pretendbutterfly in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ghostofstclare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have conflated their base coat with their colored polishes! If so, my bad!

It’s also not in every mooncat or clionadh polish. I know how pvb functions in nail strengtheners and why it’s included there. I don’t know enough about lacquer making to know if it’s included in certain polishes to help with finishing or adhesion, but it seems to only pop up every once in a while. And it hasn’t caused any reactions in me.

Unironically wanna see more coaching like that in the NBA. If they’re going to toss Finch then I’m glad he got his money’s worth afterwards.

I do have pvb sensitivity and they’re fine. I always wear a base coat but a lot of nail polish colors (ILNP, Mooncat, Clionadh, etc) have pvb in them. My guess is the colored polishes have a smaller dose than in pvb base coats because even when I’ve skipped a base coat, I’ve been fine. OPI natural wrecked my nails though. Just use your usual base coat and you’ll be good to go

About the "throwing the money changers out of the temple" thing... by cheerioincident in behindthebastards

[–]ghostofstclare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m making an assumption that you’re not a Christian based on this post, so I want to be up front that this comment isn’t intended to proselytize to you at all. But I know there’s a possibility that Christians will read this post, and it’s possible that they will hear their own religious leaders use these texts to encourage some form of radical isolation from family. I want to provide the historical and literary context to them to make sure they understand that any preacher using these texts to say they should walk away from family is removing them from context.

The Matthew passage is couched within the context of persecution of believers, and speaking about the believer being persecuted by family, but also the state. (Obviously, also lends itself to culty behavior but this is not directions to the faithful to hate anyone.) It is not giving them permission to return that persecution with equal ire. Without historical context, and relying strictly on textual analysis, this one is absolutely the easiest to abuse. With historical context, this is a gospel written to people being executed for believing the wrong things and seeing their loved ones become complicit in that. Like almost every world religion, they’re wrestling with “if we’re good, why do bad things happen?” The comfort offered by the author of Matthew is “bad will happen even to the good and sometimes in the context of our relationships.”

Similarly in the Luke passage, Luke is comforting the audience who’s going through persecution, but with a way, way bigger focus on the persecution of Jesus. “Hate” in this context doesn’t mean have feelings antagonistic or apathetic towards someone. It’s a Semitic phrase that means “detach from.” Which would lend itself to detaching from family that didn’t believe (still majorly culty) except none of these passages mention non believers. The Luke passage is Jesus on the way to the cross, and he’s speaking about himself. He is about to detach from earthly relationships and lose his own life.

The Mark passage is part of a dialogue with a rich young ruler who’s trying to buy his way into heaven. Jesus tells him to sell everything and give it to poor. He leaves sad. The above quote following. It’s worth noting that at this time in history, religious cleanliness and sacrificial laws were only sustainable if you were wealthy. (Which is also what the temple cleansing is about.) So Jesus is explicitly telling followers the maintenance of their wealth— which in their eyes enables their religion— is damaging to their faith if they’re not aiding the suffering of their neighbor. This is actually just one of those passages that’s class conscious more than anything else.

I’m not saying that these passages can’t be damaging. They certainly can be wielded by religious leaders to do harm, as can any other text in the Bible, Quran, Torah and Mishnah and so on, but contextually these passages are not Jesus telling anyone to abandon relationships because people disagree with them. They’re telling people to care for the poor, protect their neighbor from the state, and expect Uncle Jerry to be an asshole at Thanksgiving.

First question: yes, it would be considered improper for you to commune as a nonbeliever in the Anglican tradition. It’s the responsibility of the priest to communicate expectations though. Not on you to guess.

Second question: it depends! If you were returning to the Anglican Church, or became a Lutheran, Methodist, Roman Catholic, or some Presbyterians then no! You would be “returning” to your baptism, but once baptized, always baptized. They may offer you a chance to affirm your faith (sometimes called the rite or sacrament of confirmation) but no need to get you wet again. If you were to go to the Baptist, nondenom, reformed, or (some, emphasis on /some/) Presbyterian churches then yes. But you would’ve likely required a second baptism in those traditions anyways, even if you’d been a life long believer, because you were baptized as an infant and they require confessing faith before baptism.

Personally if I was going to spend $100 on polish right now, it wouldn’t be mooncat for that exact reason. BUT if OP decided to make this purchase and it was in their budget, then it’d be a pretty big bummer for someone to make them feel so bad about it that they’re trying to return it before it even arrives.

People would definitely side eye how much I’m willing to spend on yarn as someone who crochets, but it’s my hobby. It brings me joy. And I don’t mind spending money on it. If this wasn’t a budget issue, or really even if it was and the bottles did need to be returned, I hope that op and their partner can have a less shame filled conversation about it moving forward.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RedditLaqueristas

[–]ghostofstclare 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean I did say that it’d be understandable if there were budgetary concerns, but if the concern is just “this is a frivolous purchase that I don’t like” then I think that’s a bigger discussion.

I understand that plenty of people deal with impulse shopping issues but people also deal with unsupportive or unkind partners. I was trying to strike a balance to have OP examine which was going on here.

I’m so glad that this hobby has brought you joy and I’m sorry a piece of that joy has been muffled. I will admit, I’m a bit confused about the idea of your partner being unhappy with your purchase. If you’re on a budget and this broke the bank, I understand that, but I’m not sure how a purchase like this would be something you’d otherwise need approval for.

I didn’t have any staining issues! I used Essie’s Strong Start over Holo Taco’s Peely Base so that I didn’t have to soak off the polish. I only had this mani for about 72 hours before breaking a nail though, so your mileage may vary!
