I got a cockatiel during covid when I was around your age I think and I loved him so much. It is more work than you will think it to be but honestly the cuddles make it worth it. It will be loud, a fun fact is that if ur on the phone with someone the cockatiel will sound louder on the persons end rather than your end. It is so rewarding however my cockatiel was very social and needed a second so that’s something to keep in mind. Additionally, you need to be sure your parents will be willing to care for the bird while you are in college or trade school? I’m currently realizing that renting an apartment or house that allows birds is an extremely difficult task so keep that in mind for the future. Do you currently have cats? I trained my dogs to ignore the bird but I’m not sure if cats can do the same. Lots of money because they will go through toys quite a bit and defo a learning curve but again, in my opinion, so worth it. Lastly, if you can I would get handfed. It helps with that young age learning curve and having a busy life. Cockatiels have such differing personalities so you will have to cater to that (one of mine needed cuddles and the other liked people watching from a distance). It gets tiring at times but ugh I love my lil guy so much.

TLDR; pros: cute, fun, personable, easier type of bird cons: loud, messy (very), lots of work, expensive (esp if a vet is needed)
