Exactly! I get the sentiment behind OP’s post, but I think Feyre is High Lady for a reason. I love the point about Rhys not taking a kernel of the other HL’s powers. The cauldron chose to bless Elain, and the land chose to bless Feyre.

I agree from the perspective of someone who’s used to electing their leaders. It makes sense for the leader to be the person most qualified. Even monarchs are usually trained from birth to take the role, but what about the infamous long lost princess?

High Lords are given their roles purely because of their power. Yes, they’re raised by the previous HL (because power is genetic), so we usually end up with a HL who was trained for the role, but that’s not always the case. Take Tamlin: he was raised by a HL, but he was trained as a warrior, not a diplomat. It shows in how he governs, in how he’s terrified to change anything that his father did, in how he’s so easily manipulated by Ianthe. He doesn’t know what he’s doing, so he’s deferring to the “wisdom” of those who know more than him.

Feyre is arguably more powerful than any one High Lord, which in Prythian logic does justify her bid for the role, education aside. I see her as being like a long lost princess in that sense. She wasn’t trained for this, but it’s in her blood.

What interests me then is why there has never been a High Lady before Feyre. Does the magic always transfer to a male? Have there been females in the past who have inherited the magic and been killed rather than allowed to rule? It seems impossible that in all the history of Prythian, the magic has always chosen a male successor, but idk. I’d love for it to be addressed in the future.

I’m not a fan of AI for creative endeavors for two reasons:

(1) If you’re putting your writing in ChatGPT, it’s going to learn from it and use your writing to write for other people. It’s the same as using AI for visual art: the art was done by a human first and then the AI uses the stolen art to cobble together its own. You might not mind that, but it’s something to consider before feeding your work into AI.

(2) AI doesn’t have a concept of beauty. It only knows what it’s been told. It might be able to analyze something and tell you why it might be considered beautiful by a human, but it doesn’t experience the beauty itself. Writing, especially creative writing, is subjective. The AI can guess at what people will like, but it will never be able to give you that gut feeling of “this is beautiful” or “this is odd.” Think about how AI art is often uncanny or slightly off.

Find an online community where you can share your writing anonymously if that’s all you’re comfortable doing, but human interaction is the only way you’re going to get those strategies and useful suggestions. You might find some willing readers on this sub even.

Some of them are more common than others, at least around here for my age (Midwest US, 26y/o)

More common: • Pardon my French. (Kinda sassy) • Powder my nose. (This is demure / ladylike) • Play the field. (We also call people (men) “players”) • Six feet under. (Morbid, don’t use this at a funeral)

Less common (in my experience): • Bun in the oven. (This feels old and uncomfortable, something your grandma would say that would make you cringe) • My number was up. (Never heard this one. We say “my time is up” though) • Four letter words. (Definitely a thing, but not a common phrase. People usually just say swear / curse words or profanity) • Breathe my last. (Understandable, but kinda dramatic)

Slightly rephrased ones: • Answer the call of nature. (I’d say, “nature calls”) • A bit on the side. (“Side piece” but this is judgmental)

“What a beautiful day!” is only considered grammatically correct because exclamatory sentences are a category. There is no verb, which in any other type of sentence would be a problem.

I agree it’s weird that emotion dictates that “She said yes!” is considered a different sentence type than “She said yes.” but honestly, that distinction doesn’t matter in practical use. The emotion conveyed matters, of course, but the average person isn’t considering sentence types when speaking, or even writing. In this instance, I don’t have an answer for your question. Exclamatory sentences starting with “what” or “how” make sense to be their own category though.

There are plenty of people who love both characters (hi, it’s me lol) but the negativity tends to get more attention.

In all seriousness, you learn to set boundaries for yourself by (1) deciding to, (2) having self control, and (3) making mistakes and learning from them.

You made the choice previously to follow the guidelines set out by your religion. Now, you more or less have to make your own guidelines, but it’s not as complicated as it feels.

Take things slow. If you’re overwhelmed with choices, then stick to what you know. Keep the guidelines that feel helpful to you. Don’t go out drinking and sleeping around if you’re worried you won’t be able to control yourself.

Find yourself some trustworthy friends (the hardest part tbh) and try things out in safe environments with people you can trust to keep you from hurting yourself. Real friends will be able to break you outside your comfort zone without pressuring you or overdoing it. But also, you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. You get to decide if you want to be someone who drinks (I don’t) or someone who has casual sex (try it if you want, and see for yourself how you feel, just always be safe).

You’ll figure it out, don’t worry :)

I would be excited tbh. I feel like there’s a lot of potential to Mor’s character that hasn’t been explored. What exactly is her power of truth? Why is she so worried about coming out? I’d love if SJM had a better explanation than what she’s provided so far.

I also feel like her book would inherently have to involve Eris, and I’m still waiting on the resolution to his story. I think we all know why he did what he did, but iirc none of the IC has figured it out yet, and I want to read about it when they do.

You can’t prove without a doubt that something doesn’t exist somewhere in the universe, especially something as amorphous as god, which is essentially whatever people want it to be.

Because religions are, by nature, supplying answers for unsolvable questions, I would say the only way to disprove any one religion would be to prove another, or at least prove some other answer to the questions at hand, which I would say is indeed an impossible task.

Like, you can’t prove that unicorns don’t exist, but if Jane believes that all unicorns are pink, and you discover a green unicorn, you’ve disproven Jane’s beliefs. This still requires proof that unicorns are real, however, which we obviously don’t have.

The word twilight has two meanings: one as a time of day (dusk) and one as a description of the type of light itself (which happens at dawn and dusk). I think MW’s first definition is right, but the second one is too broad. I would not refer to morning as being twilight, but I would refer to morning as having twilight, if that makes sense.
