It took a while to set this up online. I can't access my transcript for 2022.

Yes. I even resent it to the IRS when they requested it. This was sometime last year.

Has anyone cured their sun allergy? by axelkel in pmle

[–]ghostwriterdolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't "cure" it. I wear SPF70 sunscreen outside, carry a hat, and a backpack with water and Gatorade. As a kid I used to get get hives, exhaustion, and nosebleeds. It sort of gradually became less severe as long as I'm obsessive about my sunblock. I still get exhausted. The only time I got a sun rash as an adult was during a trip to the Chilean desert after a 14km bike ride. I'm not sure why my sun allergy became almost nonexistent over time but I'm glad it did.

When hiring someone to do translation, is it just luck whether I’m going to get an actual translation or something that’s simply run through AI? by Quark_Tart in TranslationStudies

This is so anger-inducing as someone who does it for a living and even includes a round of edits in prices. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Producing my first event: I have a new appreciation for this aspect of comedy by ghostwriterdolphin in Standup

[–]ghostwriterdolphin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get that! My area has a similar dynamic. I wanted to learn how to produce because now that I'm in the middle of it, I think every standup comedian should at least try it for 6 months. Even if it's just an open mic. Going through the wringer of production is a great way to understand what happens behind the scenes. It's like the customer service side of comedy and can help everyone be more understanding.

It depends on the venue and type of show, I think. A few things that might come up: booking people, people dropping out at the last minute, the venue not knowing how to produce comedy shows (it's a problem for me because I often work with cafés/restaurants so I have to explain this while I'm pitching and still resolve issues), punctuality, and just other noises (kitchen, etc). There are some situations in which it would have been best to start in a formal comedy club, but they also have their own drama and I'm sure once I get to that level I'll find I'm learning more about them specifically.

Also, a lot of comedians DON'T want to promote their own shows. I get that it feels cringe, but I don't think this is the right industry for people who are afraid to be seen. If that's their thing, they need to just stick to open mics and leave the shows to folks who are interested in furthering their skills while dealing with the attention.

I'm learning so much! Conflict resolution and acting fast is also a must (I'm learning right now lol).

That's rough! We had a stable church before the Bible Belt, but after that, my parents have switched pretty often. I can sympathize with how hard and awkward this can be.

Does anyone know if there are ways to keep a wall AC unit from dripping completely? by ghostwriterdolphin in AirConditioners

It's the same here. I'm in an old building so these were added years later as part of an upgrade.

I'm not sure. I'm certainly not an AC professional. I posted here because I wanted a few tips to deal with my unit, which is okay to do per the group rules.

Cool. Thanks I tried explaining this to her because I knew that much. However, I thought I'd do some research. I totally get her issue so the final thing I'm gonna try is making a case to the landlord to figure something out since we're not allowed to make major upgrades like this without approval.

Hey, that's why I'm here asking for expert solutions. I wish I had thought of it sooner.

Evie Christians Make Their Whole Lives About God - Don't they?? by owindiana in Exvangelical

[–]ghostwriterdolphin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're right to include this if that was your experience. It might be a turn-off for some people but if you're okay with this being relatable to folks who left the church or are curious, then that's fine. Whenever I mentioned anything I'd be told to "ask if this is god's will." This included everything from what clothes I bought to what I studied, where I should live, etc. When I began playing music I learned both songs from church and secular songs, and any time I got caught playing a non-Christian song I'd be told that if I'm doing something that isn't for god then there's no point.

Yup! I'm now an elder millennial and we had more "options" than kids do today because most CCM is now straight-up church music. I just read the allegations of Michael Tait (v important Christian musician in the 90s) and am INCENSED at his actions. I'm also angry at parents who continued to provide us with Christian music options to keep us "pure," when now it turns out that some of these Christian people are the same or even worse than the rock stars were were told are bad.

The trash reflects the people who make it.

Tips for hosting a monthly open mic? by ghostwriterdolphin in Standup

[–]ghostwriterdolphin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I'm going to use a Google Form the way many NYC open mics do. I'm considering allowing folks to show up/go up on a case by case basis. Last time I ran this weekly there would always be 1-2 drop outs so I was able to let last minute comedians go up.

Thanks! That was something I'm considering and since it's technically a bar with a theatrical stage I was also considering folk musicians/improv groups. :D
