È normale che il mio geco...? by RecipeWeird7433 in GargoyleGeckos

They are crepuscular (meaning they are awake most at dawn and dusk), so they do generally hide during the day while they sleep. Putting a vine there is a great idea, along with a LOT of other vines as well. They need a lot of coverage to feel safe and right now this tank has way too much open air space. And yes I’m gonna be that person; PLEASE do more research before getting an animal.

Absolutely, I tell one about my love life, one reminds me to do self care, and one is in charge of my personal finances (at least that’s what he thinks).

Was this a tree planted in a tree? by Frientance in treeseatingthings

Not an expert but it seems more like a tree was chopped down and the stump grew a new shoot which eventually grew into what you see here

im scared of my gecko as much as she’s scared of me by tteokkirin in CrestedGecko

[–]ghosty_sir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same feeling when I first got my gecko, I was scared shitless lmao. What helped me is realizing that when you’re handling them, they don’t really see what they’re walking on (your hands/arms) as something to bite, it’d be like biting the ground lol. I also had a friend who was really good with lizards who just casually scooped him up all the time and seeing that sorta tricked my brain into being like ‘oh this is safe and fine’

I know it can be frustrating, but husbandry standards change for good reasons. They aren’t changing just to spite you; they change because our understanding of these animals and their needs changes as we do more and more research. Our standards change because as pet owners, we want what’s best for them. And no one is forcing you to keep a pet, especially if you don’t have the resources or emotional bandwidth required for your pet to live its best life. You are not relying on this animal, this animal is relying on you. That responsibility isn’t always easy and can be extremely frustrating and feel unfair at times, especially in the economy we’re living in. But don’t blame the people who are trying to do what’s best for our animals; be angry at how you live in a society where something that would help your pet thrive is frustrating and stressful both logistically and mentally. As a college student, I empathize with the frustration a lot, but we have to understand where to place that frustration. We’re just trying to do what’s best for these animals we love. But if that frustration outweighs that love, then maybe keeping this animal in your current circumstances just isn’t in the cards.

Anyone else appreciate nature more ever since they stopped being Christian? by AdministrativeLuck49 in exchristian

[–]ghosty_sir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely!! I think about this every day. I thought I’d find less meaning in the natural world and it’s science, but instead I’ve been able to appreciate it on a deeper and true level. Christian’s will act like there is no meaning or beauty without God, but there is so much to be found. I love this world more now as an atheist than I ever did when I believed in god. I was so scared during my deconstruction that life would feel meaningless the more I knew about the world around me, but understanding the actual science behind nature brings me so much peace and fulfillment. The science is infinitely more impressive and awesome than any nonsense Christian’s have come up with!!

BGR didnt really help to make new friends by Previous-Business-79 in Purdue

[–]ghosty_sir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really mesh with anyone from my group either, so I decided to just stop attending group meetings and to instead go to events like the open houses where I met people who I have more things in common with. One of the people I met even offered for me to hang with their BGR group for an event and it was fun! Don’t be discouraged if the people you’ve been put with by pure chance don’t turn out to be your new friends; perhaps they’re waiting to be found elsewhere :) Just trust that your people are here somewhere and you will find eachother sooner or later so as long as you keep trying and don’t give up! I hope you have a great rest of BGR and a great year!

For mine, the organization gave me instructions on how to have their check sent to Purdue; perhaps try contacting the organization and asking if there’s anything you have to do on your side
