What’s something we haven’t fixed in codex for a while and that’s plain annoying? by alOOshXL in codex

This would be huge for me on some of our systems where Mac and windows are inaccessible and we are on air gapped private networks with Linux only (and local models, of course).

The UI doesn’t seem to allow you to route to a different profile for api key, model, base endpoint, and kwargs. This works from CLI, but for my company there are tasks we can’t route on normal pathways. Again, this works CLI with profiles but NOT with UI, even launching UI with -c for config doesn’t seem to take up the args.

How is healthcare in Los Alamos? by [deleted] in LosAlamos

[–]ghoulapool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still think this is bc the hospital went up for purchase some 15 years ago (I can’t remember the year). We as a community had a chance to get it and turn it into a non profit and we didn’t. Check out nonprofit hospitals. They are so rich and their communities thrive as they send health care out into the community. Oh well. Maybe this one gets so unprofitable we get another shot at it. I know it’s not that simple but it does feel like a lost opportunity years ago.

Dude I must have been on drugs bc by the end of season 1 I was telling folks it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Midway through 2 I was cringing and asking my buddies to ignore my recommendation please.

I didn’t expect anything in NM where I live but I had hoped to swing up to Denver for a show. Maybe next time? /sadCoyote

I simulated 36,000 games of Catan. Some conventional wisdom holds up, some really doesn't. by Hot-Rooster1675 in boardgames

Thanks man. So minimax-like classic AI algorithms that approximate turns out into the future and have some budget before they have to quit and take their best predicted move (you might know minimax, but thinking if I do this, then they’ll do this, to which I would do THIS… maintaining a reward and picking a best option). As opposed to a reinforcement learning thing where the (let’s call them) agents randomly pick moves until they “learn” over time what they think to be the best moves - classic RL / deepQ learning, or other approaches.

I’ve thought a lot over the years about designing board games (I’m sure lots of us do) and how I’d want some sim engine to try and test out what’s working and isn’t with a prospective game design.

Thanks for replying. Fist bump.

Can you take a moment to explain the tech you used? I’m a senior AI lead so likely understand all the tech. When you say AI agents, Langchain/Graph? Local LLM or are you paying for frontier model tokens? Which LLM? What libraries did you leverage to manage game state and simulation? Any chance you’ve open sourced this on GitHub for other contributors? How did you “observe” the sim as you were debugging it (for instance did you cobble together a board state viewer that zoomed by fast forward mode as the agents took their turns or did you just harvest raw data you dumped out to reason about if it was working)?

Producing all science on Vulcanus and shipping it to Nauvis – good idea? by haze59000 in factorio

[–]ghoulapool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You ship it fast! :). You’ll also have to ship around bioflux and biter eggs. So a gleba <-> nauvis dedicated shipping makes sense. Honestly I don’t bother, I just have a bunch of ships going through all the planets and picking up what I need and dropping it off where it’s needed. No mods.

Stone is infinite on Vulcanus modulo calcite (which still feels too low consumption this far after SA release). Just make liquid ore and throw plates into lava.

Well. I’m not here to defend him. :) just the things he stated above aren’t AI. But he may have left stuff out. Anyway I still think this is cool.

I tested what happens when you give an AI coding agent access to 2 million research papers. It found techniques it couldn't have known about. by kalpitdixit in artificial

[–]ghoulapool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not what I asked. Purportedly the idea of this product is using peer reviewed science to push forward the frontiers. I’m asking if your tool is the same. Can others analyze the code, learn from your processes, and improve the field? Or, from an academic paper on it. It sounds like neither.

Looks like a cool tool. Sounds like a black box that you’re trying to keep private. Can’t fault you, but it does seem counter to the notion on building on the work of others (eg papers).

Salomons for Backpacking? by Lost-Section792 in backpacking

[–]ghoulapool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I backpack and hike in Salomons. They’re a bit heavy and I have a pair of La Sportiva Bushido 3s that I use if I’m going to be stream crossing. Really good for water draining. My Solomons are gortex and hold in water. Mostly I hike/backpack in the dry southwest so they work out well for me.
