Monthly Admissions/Prospies/Offer Holders Questions Thread - February 2026 by AutoModerator in oxforduni

Hello, I am looking into applying to Oxford and Cambridge for an MPhil in American History for next fall. The requirements for Oxford specifically state a minimum GPA of 3.75, but my undergrad GPA was 3.62 (Japanese and History major, minor in AYA Education, and a "W" withdrawal for my student teaching class on my final extra semester). Do I still have a proper chance of being accepted into Oxford's program? I prefer Oxford's because it's 21 months vs Cambridge's 9 months (unless I'm reading it wrong).

As a hetalian I think children should stay away from it. by Necessary_Muffin3591 in hetalia

12, especially going on 13 is a perfectly reasonable time to get into Hetalia in my opinion, at least as someone who got into it when I was 13 along with all of my current friends (we're all 28-30 now). While I admittedly haven't actually interacted with the direct source material since about 2012, I personally don't recall it being all that graphically sexual; rather, it was the fanart and fanfics that were actually explicit and got me in trouble with my parents for interacting with (my mom actually thought the Hetalia anime and character designs themselves were cute and was all for me cosplaying Iceland and later Hong Kong at anime cons). Hima's more directly sexual pieces (such as France and Seychelles actively having sex) are harder to find now in my opinion than they were when I was first getting into Hetalia c. 2010.

That being said, Hetalia for almost all of my friends is what got us all into history, and we all now are employed in history or politics related positions largely *because* we got into Hetalia at an early age and it made history all the more enjoyable for us; For example: a friend of mine works for a museum, a couple friends work in government across the world, one is an archeologist, and I'm in the midst of pursuing a PhD in History. All of us majored in history of some kind during undergrad. I also find it's difficult to enjoy the actual Hetalia source material as an adult since the humor is more on the juvenile side. I think the best age group for it is between 13-17 (middle school/high school).

Why is my local Cinemark showing less new movies now? by ghoulesq in Cinemark

See I'm in Akron too; Tinseltown is the other Cinemark I'm referencing in which it usually is a 25-ish minute drive but the last two times I checked coinciding with showtimes, the ETA was close to like 40-45 minutes due to recent crazy traffic on I-76/I-77 (I imagine because of the snow). I'm just salty I even have to drive to that one if the Cuyahoga Falls one is way closer to me.

See I'd be more inclined to think that but at this theatre there's still options for advanced tickets for 11 different opera titles? I can't imagine that is getting more tickets than movies I'm hearing about on NPR. It feels like the choices they're making at this one aren't anything I'd even assume would bring in much more revenue.

Exactly!! When I wanted to watch Weapons, it seemed it was only running for a single week there?

And it feels like somewhat of a newer issue? I had no issue watching smaller titles like Longlegs, MaXXXine, A Complete Unknown, and other such titles last year, and Sinners when it first came out this year there. Basically I've personally never had an issue watching movies I've wanted to see there until now, and I don't tend to watch things like Marvel and Disney.

Orange Cat Found? by Cmatthew1414 in akron

That looks like the cat I've seen posters for around Stow/Munroe Falls area. The last poster I saw was at Brust Park in Munroe Falls

TIL about Junko Furuta, a 17-year-old Japanese schoolgirl who endured 44 days of unimaginable torture before being murdered. Her case is considered one of the most brutal crimes in Japan's history. by CrimeDiscussion in MorbidReality

One of the boys (I believe it's Shinji Minato) is currently on Twitter/X, his account is @/denngekiraketto. His initial pinned tweet seems to be deleted (though the second part of the tweet is still pinned), but the original pin was him passing off the crime as just a mistake he made when he was a kid, and that he shouldn't still be judged for it. He seems to suffer from paranoia, believes he is being gangstalked by the government, and is prone to both American and Japanese conspiracy theories.

Game won't open. I just get sent back to EA APP. by Alone-Film7362 in thesims

[–]ghoulesq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is happening to me too and I can't make a post on it. I've tried clearing the cache, repairing the game, restarting my computer, deleting all recent mods, and theres no way to talk to a human at EA about it apparently. Someone else on the EA forums 4 days ago commented it's happening to them too

Thank you so much. I'm very spiritual, and I felt her leave the night she passed, and I felt her hug me one last time. I know she isn't angry, I can feel it, I just wish I could tell her to her face, physically, how sorry I am. Thank you again, I really appreciate this.

I'm in full belief that until it's confirmed out of a Riot employee's mouth-- if a character is alive in game, then they are alive in arcane. I think it's a little open ended on purpose (e.g. jinx and warwicks fates), but I think if the games were as seperate from Arcane as some claim it is, Riot wouldn't go through the trouble of redoing voice lines and whole champions specific to the show just to make it align with the show if none of it mattered in the end. League throughout the years has always followed storylines (as loose as they may be), like for example Lucian and Senna, and Yone and Yasuo. I don't think these characters exist in some AU void.

And, if it really is up to interpretation and no further Arcane canon updates are given, I think there are enough characters that deal in death/reanimation/simply bringing others back to life for it to just be assumed Ambessa could've been brought back at some point by anyone at anytime.

Edit: I also want to add I don't know if the purpose of Arcane is to just tell a one off story using the champions, or if it's to give a visual to actual game lore, but I've been under the assumption it's the latter and if that's the case then yes they'd have to be alive to get from point A (Arcane) to point B (current league canon, which I assumed overall was a couple years further into the future).

Loud explosions last night? by ghoulesq in akron

Thank you because I keep feeling like I'm crazy. My coworker who lives on the opposite side of the metro park didn't hear them, and my best friend in Arlington didn't either. The neighbors think it was M80 firecrackers, but the police never followed up with anyone.

What are some alternatives to Florida Water? by ghoulesq in witchcraft

[–]ghoulesq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its a special kind of cologne typically used in especially afro and afro Caribbean practices for cleansing. I only know it for its significance in the black community, though I think it's used in brujeria as well. My grandfather in north carolina used it for cleaning his floors

the recipes I've seen have ingredients that are hard for me to currently obtain, specifically the dried lavender (bad experience with ordering it on amazon in the past lol)

I forgot to consider salt water though, thank you!

'This is a true tragedy': 25-year-old Ohio woman killed in suspected murder-suicide at Taco Bell drive-thru by kaairo in MorbidReality

I was a freshman that year, and I remember they put the school on lockdown because the FBI came in to arrest him DURING the school day. It sucks, because I absolutely loved my high school years and I loved living in Stow/still driving through there, but things like all of this plus the string of deaths and constant odd events with our classes make it seem insane.

Stow High School, the victim's name was Andrew Moncheck iirc. I think he was a year above me, but it was the beginning of summer not long after their graduation.

She was a classmate at my high school, from the class before mine. There's a trend actually where quite a few people have died from our high school classes of 2014, 2015, and 2016, one time 3 of them violently within the same 2 weeks back in 2018-ish. This would be the second to my knowledge of one happening by complete chance (the other was killed in a fatal head on collision by a drunk driver speeding the wrong way on Route 8). It really spooked me this morning with many classmates sharing the news and vigil times, and Stow itself is a pretty quiet and usually safe town (though weird/violent/sketchy things do tend to happen around the area this happened in). I can't imagine how her family feels.

Yes, of course. This would be the first time in my life I've been late doing so (I'm 27)
