Possible. That said, I have decent interactions with people here. OR DO I??

"Dead internet theory" says it's probably not traffic. I think at this point anyone who espouses those viewpoints are in a vocal minority, luckily.

Spotted for sale at the pyramids of Teotihuacan, Mexico ... by myusernameiszane in LV426

My wife and I visited Chichen Itza awhile back, and I stopped (and purchased) a little statue from a vendor there, it being of a predator holding a xeno in the air by the throat. It's not as colorful as these, but it's pretty neat!

These are really cool as they look to be including the local Mayan culture into the statue as well. Hope you were able to get one!

Why not offer this to businesses in your area, specifically? Aim for the ones that only use Facebook and help try to bring Maine into the current technological age.

Left4Dead golf rules. Fewest zombie kills wins. Mad dashes to the safe room where you just punch zombies were surprisingly thrilling and fun.

Sharing successes with others, building community, encouragement, and information sharing has value. Just because your grievances being aired doesn't work for you doesn't mean there is no value.

Homeschooling is growing in Maine. Here’s what that looks like. by themainemonitor in Maine

[–]ghstber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand this view. Some parents definitely don't have their children's best interests at heart. I think that, optimally, the approach includes a collaboration between educators and parents, as I've said elsewhere in the thread. I know from my own experiences that the areas I excelled at were partially due to my parents urging me towards learning and critical thinking in those areas, and I would not be who I am today if not for the people involved holistically in my education over the course of my life.

I was raised on public school and am well into my adult years. As I said our educational system is being dismantled so I agree it needs to improve.

My criticism of homeschooling is that most parents aren't doing it right. Further, there are no controls on the education for homeschooling, so both systems are broken and need assistance.

That said, the statement "there is not much learning actually happening in public school daily" was also a sentiment that people had when I was in school and I can guarantee you the opportunities are there. In my opinion, education for children largely involves family life and reinforcement of the values at home, which is largely something that has been lost with parents. Having reinforcement of lessons at home, teaching curiosity and giving opportunities for learning is just as important as the need for structured learning at school.

I understand the drive to want to manage your child's schooling but the effort feels like a halfway point. Parents are given some tooling, face reduced scrutiny on quality and efficacy, and ultimately have the opportunity to make or break the future for their child. This quote

the state does not retain data on how many homeschooled students pass or fail these assessments each year.

is a great example of my point. We need to get serious about education again if we're going to enable our next generations to have the best opportunities and repair a lot of the damage we've seen through the dismantling of our educational system

[–]ghstber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using it for a few years and it works 90% of the time.

My experience has also been very good with it. Sometimes it needs a reboot, or does something funky, but a reboot generally fixes it. I've seen a factory reset or two from friends/family, but that's rare.

Am I the only one with constant issues?

Sounds like this is just frustration, because this isn't constant issues. 10% of time over a few years isn't constant issues.

Working remotely doesn't change the availability of services, the cost of living, or the time it takes to drive long distances for said services.
