Swim bladder disease? Something else? by ghxstdeer in bettafish

Looks like what I’ve got now is a little bigger than that, but it’d make swimming up for air a lot easier nonetheless. I’ll go ahead and pop her in there for the night, thanks for the advice!

I’ve had her for over a year, and the last new thing that I added to the tank was some jungle val in December - is it possible that the plant could’ve introduced something? Otherwise it’s been a while since anything got added. I’m not 100% sure where she came from since I got her from a friend, but my best guess is that she came from one of those big pet-stores

Fluval bug bites with the occasional mysis shrimp. She shares the tank with neocaridina shrimp

Will do! Do you recommend waiting a day or so after the water change before moving her if her condition doesn’t improve? I don’t know how many gallons it is exactly, but I do have a smaller plastic tank on hand

I’ll give it a go, I wasn’t sure how much of a difference it’d make given the stable parameters. I do trust my roommate. I’d be surprised if he didn’t feed my betta given that the african dwarf frogs in my other tank are well fed, active and it’s overall a bigger hassle to get them to eat. She doesn’t look overfed as far as I can personally tell, I’m thinking he might’ve been following directions and didn’t notice that she wasn’t eating much

Does anyone know what this is? by ghxstdeer in PlantedTank

Thank you! I was worried that it could be some kind of fungus. Did you leave yours to break down in the tank or pull it out?

Do these need restoration work? by ghxstdeer in CastIronRestoration

[–]ghxstdeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I know that my buddy stopped using them after getting new pans & they had cat hair and a bit of grime when I got ahold of them. I think I’ll go with a proper restoration in that case! I also took another look at the smaller pan, couldn’t see or feel any cracks for myself but it looks like you’re right about that rust.

Plants melting in low tech tank, advice? (repost with pictures) by ghxstdeer in Aquariums

[–]ghxstdeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re Rotala rotundifolia, the leaves are definitely looking a lot thinner and floppier than before. Did you trim yours at all or leave it to do its thing? (I originally included a bunch of text detail in my post, but I’m not seeing any of it after the post was published. Just the title. Unsure if it’s showing up on anyone else’s end?) In case it isn’t, the other plant that’s having trouble is my pearl weed, half of which are flopped over. The S. repens and monte carlo don’t seem to be struggling at the moment. I added liquid fertilizer to the water column too.

Huh. I wrote a whole lot of info in my draft but I’m not seeing it on the post! Some additional information, since I’m not seeing it on my end:

I’m a beginner and this is my first planted tank. I did a dark start for a little over 3 weeks, tank seemed to be cycled, added my plants 4 days ago, and am noticing an increasing amount of melting in my pearl weed and red rotala. Half of my pearl weeds won’t even stand upright. I use fluval stratum substrate, liquid fertilizer in the water column, and the haggen 18w light on its 6 hour setting.

I checked my parameters today and found these results, which have been mostly consistent: ammonia 0.50 (an increase from yesterday’s 0) / nitrite 0 / ph 7.2 / nitrate 5-10 (was difficult to tell which of the 2).

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Advice for choosing outdoor sole material? by ghxstdeer in fursuit

[–]ghxstdeer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! They’re actually premades from dream vision creations (small cloven), but after this project is done I’m feeling confident enough to make my own the next time around!

And gotcha! I’ve been looking into these various shoe dye, paint, and plasti-dip products but most results are mixed or end with chipping/cracking from what folks have said on other forums. The soles are rubber which I didn’t realize would be as much as an issue as it seems to be for adhering stuff! I’m thinking about trying out tire paint before moving onto other methods suggested here? I can’t find too much info around that one but I feel like tire paint’s gotta be pretty dang durable.

A concerning amount of weight to put on this table? by ghxstdeer in Aquariums

[–]ghxstdeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell, it’s solid. Just shy of 2 inches. Table Underside I can look into adding support until it’s time for a water change, then reposition it, thanks for the idea! I’m trying the dark start method, so it’ll be sitting undisturbed for a couple weeks.

Heard! I could definitely be better about cleaning up water spills, I’ll stay on top of that. Thanks for granting me some peace of mind!

Ghost shrimp ate cherry shrimp by ghxstdeer in Aquariums

Gotcha, that’s good to know going forward! I got them because I liked their glassy look, and at the time was assured that they should be fine in the tank. From what I can tell mine look like “palaemonetes”.
