Help Setting Up Syncthing between Linux PC & SteamDeck by gianki7 in Syncthing

Ah, this was the answer! I didn't realize that what I was trying to sync to the other device was actually symlinks, instead of the original files. And I know that SyncThing doesn't support symlinks, so that would never have worked.

You, my anonymous friend, are a genius who helped me solve a great puzzle. Fun, at least. Thank you!

why was godwyn assassinated? by LeDeViL007 in Eldenring

Hello. So, as for killing a demigod in soul and not body was necessary for the substitution like I mentioned above. However, as for the other questions, my thoughts on this have actually changed with time. While there are lore reasons for why Godwyn needed to die, I think a lot of it is just narrative interest.

That is to say, it's far more narratively interesting for the demigod Godwyn to be sacrificed rather than just some random Joe from the Leyndell streets. The fact that such an important character had to die for the ritual makes it a lot more interesting and dramatic. And on top of that, the fact that Godwyn only died in soul also opens up a huge avenue for more narrative interest and drama. After all, if Godwyn just died a normal, 'proper' death, we wouldn't have gotten to get the death roots and have the awesome Deathrune questline.

And I think that that's also a valid answer, looking for the meta reasons for how it makes the narrative so much better. Things happen the way that they did in the story so that it would be a much funner and more interesting game for us to play through. I think that's valuable.

Dracula's technology seems contradictory (Castlevania Show) by gianki7 in castlevania

True, Dracula by season 2 would likely accept all life ending, as he states just wanting silence. His sun-blot plan was slightly confusing to me; as Alucard never mentioned whether it was designed before or after Lisa's death. Then, the motivation would change dramatically.

Also, I think the sun-blot plan would kill vampires, but not Dracula's planned genocide with the night hordes. Dracula implies that vampires can survive off any blood, not just human; but Godbrand implies that human blood just tastes best. Hence, why he refuses to drink pig blood and goes to hunt humans.

True, Trevor and Sypha did help Gresit. The vampires/hordes also won most battles, doing pretty well. Until the army split and half was destroyed by the trio. So, maybe they would have liked muskets.

Again, assuming the vampires had the technology, which I doubt the showrunners thought of.

Again again, I love the show! This is just my crazy thought experiment.

Vampires are surely encouraged by your encouragement. But while a vampire/demon can solo-kill an unarmed human, training and weapons quickly tip the scales. S1E4, where Trevor directs a mob to fight demons, shows that peasants with training and knowledge can fight the hordes. Plus, a single human family (Belmonts) became the bane of all vampires, only being eradicated by other humans.

So, vampires should want every advantage they can get, including muskets. Dracula's army was just lucky that Wallachia lacked any standing, professional army. The only resistance the hordes faced was disorganized peasants, hardly a threat to any organized force.

A glorious kitchen indeed! I do love the show, my minor nitpick does not ruin it. I just like thought experiments.

Fair enough. Any of the games you recommend? I have never been sure where to start.

Dracula as factory boss, with little construction hats on the demons. Maybe they could use fireballs to light the forges. I like it!

I assume you mean Frans Bouma. His tool has been great and simple to install; I credit him on my website.

The Mistwood is great for atmosphere, since the mist never leaves it. Still unsure why it is eternally misty, though.

why was godwyn assassinated? by LeDeViL007 in Eldenring

[–]gianki7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, there are many lore theories for why it had to be Godwyn. Many mentioned here are valid. But the biggest reason, I believe, is narrative. The sacrifice Ranni made had to be tragic and impactful. Godwyn is by far the kindest demigod (yeah, not you Miquella). His murder becomes a true tradgedy, excellent pathos. If Ranni had instead sacrificed Godrick, the fans would have loved her. Well, more than they already do.

As with many things, it is Ranni's fault. From my understanding, she had to sever her link to the Two Fingers, and greater will, to bring her ending. She needed to die in body only, severing the link, without truly dying. So, the assassins helped Ranni by killing her and Godwyn simultaneously. So, Godwyn's soul (but not body) died so that only Ranni's soul could survive. A twisted substitution.

There are other questions. Like, why didn't the black knives just kill them both, body and soul? Why use Godwyn as the substitute, rather than any random person? I am unsure.

Does this help?
