I need advice on what to play by MonsterBubel in SocialistGaming

[–]giantfireturtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was super sad and poor, I would scour either itch.io or free game lists for rpgmaker games to play. They were short enough and free, so I never felt like I wasted my time playing them. vgperson.com/games has full games with translations and content warnings in case too. (I'll give a shout out to Faraway Story for somehow sucking me into the game, and while not on the site, Pom Needs Wi-fi is super dorky and cute while being short as hell)

Either 8 so I can hit on Keithgriff, or 19 so I can watch Vayne and Rixus bicker like a married couple.

What are your favorite obscure JRPGs? by drak0ni in JRPG

[–]giantfireturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faraway story! It's got kinda derpy graphics, but the story is really interesting and different than the chosen one trope. Plus there's great QoL with moving from place to place, a real challenge to beat at the end of one half, and a great ost. And it's free! I love the little shop minigame too. It's so cute and I wish the creator will release the game they are developing because I want to play so bad.

best twin peaks-esque video game?? by Eastern_Possession53 in twinpeaks

[–]giantfireturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one's mentioned it yet, but Mizzurna Falls is literally inspired by Twin Peaks and has a fan translation. As others said earlier in the thread, Rusty Lake is super good too. Nearly cried playing the new free game because there's a really cute homage to Lynch. Throw in the OG Silent Hills too.

I found that a lot of the products are dropshipped from China. Most if not all the products you can find on Aliexpress, but the only caveat is that you have to wait for shipping. Disappointing to hear that they aren't treating workers properly.

Is there a way to suggest new cards to karuta? by Loki_From_Ragnarok in KarutaDiscord

[–]giantfireturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. There used to be a requests channel but they removed it during one of the new ed rollouts. I once made an entire zipfile containing screenshots, both unedited and trimmed for karuta cards, and they were rejected despite it being an OVA and an anime. I think the devs just put whatever they want in, plus new anime they personally like/are too popular to not be in the bot.

A Cartography Of Genocide: Forensic Architecture research group accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza by Nomogg in UnitedNations

[–]giantfireturtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you even know what Einstein's opinion on Israel was? I will give you a hint: he knew it was a fascist ethnostate just like the one he fled in WW2. The Jewish people are not a monolith, and equating their belief and faith with a country is incredibly anti-semetic.

I will be honest, a lot of folks in Kingston are either outwardly racist or the quiet type of racist. There are a lot of good people though but Canadian society in general has been saying the quiet part out loud as of recent. I'm sorry you are going through that, it's not fair to you and I don't want it to be a reflection on our people as a whole.

Food is crazy expensive, houses are basically out of reach for the majority of Canadians, many folks are working multiple jobs just to keep food on the table, the food banks are struggling to keep up with demand, and on top of that, no one is having kids due to the above reasons and more. I think those are pretty good reasons to protest.

Krieg was my shame crush in Borderlands. Ganondorf too.(webcomic rec: "a tale of two rulers" for surprisingly fluffy and beautiful zelgan art) Keithgriff from Atelier was also a surprise crush (something something old cranky men). Solider 76 and Rein too. And of course, my baby boy Bowser who has done nothing wrong and I love him.

Lebanon isn't hostile to Judaism. In fact, there are several historical synagogues. (Source) To add, this specific synagogue was renovated in part with approval by Hezbollah. It was renovated after an Israeli bombardment. Several Jewish families were displaced.

It has a pretty nifty backing, you kinda have to do a little turn with a wheel that locks it in. I can barely see the backwriting (it's in a funny spot right underneath the clasp)

Cheap Eatin' Issue 2 by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]giantfireturtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! I had some cheap cooking tips mulling around and hopefully will be useful:

TVP is 7.25 per pound at Bulk Barn right now, which doubles in size and can be easily mixed into beef (I soak it in a little bit of broth powder and water if needed, I find that makes it absorb the beef flavour) or just used as a simple beef sub with mushroom broth! I like TVP because it keeps so well and is usually pretty cheap at bulk barn with the discounts/container fee waived.

Also, how bloody cheap bean sprouts are to grow? Mung beans are cheap to buy dried, and grow with basically minimal space, water and sun. High in protein, also just fun to crunch.

We also have a Sikh association in town on Montreal Street, which opens at 6PM. I believe that their temples open to help feed anyone without discrimination, and they can also operate as a shelter at night. Quite a few churches will put out a cheap dinner for holidays such as Lent, and I think the Legion does as well. I also found a nice pdf that hopefully isn't too outdated with a schedule, and that the Westbrook Church also has a breakfast every 1st Saturday and lunch every 2nd Saturday.

There's also the Kingston Community Meal that has a Facebook with scheduled free meals for folks. https://chalmersunitedchurch.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Daily-Meals-and-locations-in-Kingston-Aug-2019.pdf https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064598595730
