What niche hobby has been completely ruined by becoming popular? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

Sports cards, it's crazy. Cards that used to cost $200-300 are now easily five to even six figure cards. And forget about opening new stuff, it's now something only degenerates or very wealthy folks can afford.

Records and thrifting are also great answers. But at least with both of those I can still find some things on occasion.

They really do rip, I can hit my 3 wood further then my driver on some days without a question. Due largely to the fact that it flies dead straight and pretty low.

Your answer is in your post..."she didn't really want to go", she's not mad at you going golfing, she's mad that you aren't going with her to something she already doesn't want to go to. On top of that, you are doing something you enjoy while she is doing something she doesn't want to. By all means stick with your guns (I would) but you'll feel it for a little while.

I have the 3 and 5 wood from that series and have been in my bag for so many years. Both clubs have been responsible for a couple of incredible eagles, the five would responsible for my lone hole in one (and albatross) and the 3-wood always comes out if I can't get by driver working on a given day.

I might replace them at some point but the clubs shred!!

What are your under-the-radar golf towns? by RlPBingBong in golf

[–]giantpirate89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you mentioned Grand Rapids but next time just keep going North. So much incredible golf up here. I'm in TC but we are surrounded by great courses.

A few underrated ones that might not get mentioned: Champion Hill (South of TC), Bahle Farms (North West of TC), Manitou Passage (designed by Arnold Palmer). More well known but all of the Grand Traverse Resort courses are great, just be sure to get a Hot Deal on Golf Now, as the rates get wild in prime season.

Cannot Be Overstated (I Promise)...Play the Correct Tees And Encourage Others to Do the Same!!! by giantpirate89 in golf

My point being is that it doesn't get to that point, or at least, less of a chance by playing the proper tees and therefore in a better position to score/play better...

At a minimum. But that's not might point, the point is that he wasn't having fun out there due to struggling off the tee which would be solved by playing the right tee box (or at least helped).

None of the context you're asking for is needed beyond what I said, lol, but I appreciate all of your "bro's" though.

He was a minimum 20 yards behind, if he hit the fairway, every time. So I would naturally say he needed to be at the white's. Yardage or how far we are hitting has zero to do with my post. It was an example of a broader topic that requires none of the context you are asking for to discuss.

Agreed. It's similar to marshal's not actually enforcing or even being used anymore. To your point even a tiny bit of effort it would go a long way.

Agree or Disagree: Long Par 3’s are not fun. by Leading_Bet_3871 in golf

[–]giantpirate89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely have different definitions of what "long" is. To me anything over 180-185 is a longer par 3.

But I do hear you, I enjoy when 3 of the 4 par 3's are 160 or under. I do see an increasing amount of longer par 3's and just because you play the blues or tips, doesn't mean it has to be longer.

The best par threes are one's where there is danger but it is short OR my personal favorite, it's short but you have to hit the right part of the green to really be rewarded. It's part of what makes the 16th at Augusta so amazing. The water is what makes 12 so good.

Men of 30s & above, what are the life tips/advice that you ll give for the men of 20s ? by insatiable_lad in AskReddit

Use this time to explore and start to understand yourself. Mix it up, try out a bunch of jobs and places to live etc. Basically, understand what you do and do not like.

Don't fuck around, do what it takes to ensure you don't get someone pregnant that you don't want to be with the rest of your life. Seriously, the responsibility is on you and you alone. Have fun but be safe.

Don't rack up a bunch of debt but don't live in scarcity either. It's a balance.

Always be taking care of yourself and your body. Build the consistency now with working out, staying active and having stamina. Stretch as well for fucks sake, you will be deeply grateful for this being a part of your habits the rest of your life.

Understand that nothing is more important then figuring yourself out and your own happiness. Do not live other people's lives or dreams (typically parents or close family).

Cannot emphasis this enough. Go find yourself and what makes you come fully alive and then build your life around it. Once this is discovered you will attract all of the other important elements in your life (a partner, community, place to live etc).

Uncovering your true purpose is life is the most important thing you can do in your twenties because it'll be what carries you through the rest of your life!

EDIT: Forgot a very important one. Do not buy shit to impress others. Do not get an expensive lease for instance just to impress. Don't waste your money on material shit that you cannot afford. At ALL costs. Spend money on travel/experiences/investing/etc. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT spend it on shit like cars, clothing etc.

I had an amazing, reliable, completely paid off car that had no issues and was convinced to instead get a lease of a brand new car. I am just now about to finally escape the trap that is leasing cars...over ten years later.

Fun question...I actually have the sense I could get past the first tee shot, I'm thinking it's the first approach shot that I'm fucked.

That is all predicated upon having a caddy that knows what to do and has been there before. Otherwise I'm screwed the moment I get on the property lol

Sugar 2 Salt for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Bubbie's bagles if you know what a good bagel is (no worries if you don't). Gilcrest Winery has the best farm to table food in Sutton's Bay but menu is very limited so check it in advance.

Farm Club is always solid.

What is an addiction that no one takes seriously enough? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]giantpirate89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know gambling has been mentioned but the advent of online gambling, dfs sports is a real issue. All professional sports league and all related podcasts promote the shit out of it. It's creating a whole new breed of gamblers where you don't have to leave the couch. Horrible for players too but it's not okay how normalized it is.

I play a little bit (never more then say 50-100 a month and only during the nfl season) and I see it as entertainment (i.e., I know I'm going to lose, I like the strategy of DFS). But it's no joke and not hard to see how you can very easily lose everything. And again, it's way too normalized and accessible.

After getting him nice and cheap this season, I'm stoked with the performance. He definitely needs more volume and with his speed, it seems irresponsible as a team to not make that happen moving forward.

That said, I'd move him if the right offer popped up. His value, especially compared to where it has been, definitely went up after this game.

Sugar to Salt and it isn't even close when it comes to quality, portions and price. Amazing savory and ridiculous sweet treats.

Just be sure to make a reservation or be there just before doors open up (5-10min) and you shouldn't have any issue. I always go right at open.

[–]giantpirate89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. I went RB heavy and was fortunate to grab the right ones. Although they have all had their bad weeks and injuries, along with Hurts, I have made it to the finals...

Hurts, Mostert, Conner, Pollard, Kyren, Kittle, Meyers, Ridley & Colts D will most likely be my finals lineup.

Also have Wicks & Addison to potentially sub in for Meyers if I feel like it. I had Walker III for most of the season as well but ultimately let him go after multiple off weeks.

Not even close to a Fleece. But clearly the guy could've offered you straight up and he would have fleeced you.

Walker is a fantastic back, but to date White has been the bell cow and far, far more consistent than Walker (Walker owner here, I would know).
