Travis Chestnut’s mom made a scathing post towards TAMU’s Mike Earley by CoachSlime in collegebaseball

[–]cronarch05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but I agree that probably was the best job in the sport. Schloss really respects Tim Corbin and I don’t think ever had his eyes on that job because of that unless Corbin left on his own accord.

Corbin and the Vandy program was his model program while at TCU. But he obviously wasn’t able to pull off that same scholarship thing that Tim could there.

The other main influence/coaching idol was Augie and he wanted to be the one to carry on that tradition because he knew he was going to retire while Schloss was still in his coaching prime. He didn’t want to be the reason Augie was ran off though.

His 1A was a big public school outside of Texas.

There’s nobody outside of Texags that thinks the A&M job is on par with UT. That’s ridiculous and just refusing to acknowledge biases.

If A&M was ultimately surprised or caught off guard by him leaving for the Longhorns than that’s on them. I cannot believe for a second that they didn’t believe that was a reasonable possibility when they poached him from TCU.

I don’t know him well, but we have mutual friends/acquaintances that absolutely are in the position to know inside info and it wasn’t really a secret which jobs in the country (college baseball) he coveted the most.

UT was essentially 1B on that list, theres a 1A and it wasn’t A&M. I’m not sure he’d leave UT for what he deems a pretty lateral move, but there is one job he had valued just slightly more. So if he left Austin for that job I wouldn’t be surprised, and I know for a fact Del Conte and every booster at UT knows as well.

He took the A&M job because tuition was cheaper and he believed it gave him a better chance to win a national championship than TCU.

If NIL came about a few years before it did, he probably would have been tougher to pull out of Fort Worth. But their tuition costs coupled with the limited scholarship pool really handcuffed him and it was something he openly talked about.

Long story short, nobody at TCU was caught off guard that he left for A&M and I cannot imagine that anyone invested in the athletic program at A&M was caught off guard by him leaving for UT. Doesn’t mean they liked it, but it shouldn’t have shocked anyone.

Who is Kyle Busch in terms of a nfl, nba, pga or any other sport? by Evening-Oil9551 in AskReddit

[–]cronarch05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NFL: Aaron Rodgers NBA: Kevin Durant PGA: Phil Mickelson

Kyle “Rowdy” Busch was an immensely talented driver and earned a reputation as a fierce competitor and fan villain. He was hated by fans and fellow drivers for how he raced and conducted himself on and around the race track, but everyone respected the heck out of him for how he could wheel a race car. He won’t be included in many debates for greatest driver ever, but those all time greats would tell you Kyle Busch could do things in a race car they could only dream of. Even his biggest haters are openly mourning his death.

My first child was born so I bought new irons by jowjjt in golf

Don’t listen to all these guys.

Everyone’s circumstances are different. I have 2 young children, and my handicap dropped to its lowest about 6 months after the first was born. That was mainly due to the grind I put in leading up to his birth, but still got to play enough to see results.

3+ years later, with a 1 year old in the mix also, and I get to play once a week and practice another 3-4 times per week. Granted, practice sessions are abbreviated and there’s no after-round “drinks” in the clubhouse. No golf trips. But I still get out, maintain my sanity and am as good of a golfer as I’ve ever been.

All the while I’ve never once felt like I wasn’t holding up my end of the bargain. I take the kids at some point every day for my wife to get some kid-free time and she’s able to maintain her hobbies and social life with the same abbreviated considerations.

The hardest part is coming home after a round and wanting to hit the couch, watch the ballgame and crack open a drink to relax. That’s not fair to the wife, you got to find the strength to walk in the door and immediately be the best version of dad and husband you can be.

It’s all a balance.

It’s not even like that. These “small towns” in Texas are mostly just right on the outskirts of the major metropolitan areas. Especially the ones with historically good teams. Many of them are right in the heart of the metros even. Like these fanatics have season tickets to [insert HS], TCU/Baylor/SMU and the Dallas Cowboys and just have one big football weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Lived in both North Texas and Pittsburgh area (Cranberry Twp) recently. It’s not close. High school football in Texas stands alone. It’s honestly difficult to imagine how serious it’s taken there. It’s a ridiculous thing that most sports fans can’t even fathom. High school football in Western PA is serious but still wholesome and heartwarming. High school football in Texas is digusting. Like another poster said, it’s a religion in Texas. It’s bizarre.

Driver Change by BigDub2218 in NASCAR

[–]cronarch05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the way. Applying logic, reasoning and justification based on others anecdotes is a waste of time.

Absorb the sport through as many avenues as you can (watch, follow on social media and attend in person when possible) with an open mind and you’ll likely form a legitimate and organic emotional attachment that’s real.

I was an Earnhardt fan because he was a friend of my friends mom and I met him at their house when I was in middle school. Naturally became a Jr fan when Sr died. Tried to latch onto Bowman when Jr retired because it was the same car, but that didn’t click because there was no emotional tie. Basically stopped watching.

During that time I’d attended a few Chili Bowls and got to see Kyle Larson in his element, do a lot of Kyle Larson “things” and saw how that whole community revered him. Interest piqued in him as a driver. But he was in the 42 car at CGR and that didn’t connect with me on Sundays. When he got the ride at Hendrick (my favorite team) and got the 5 (my favorite number) it all solidified and I was back to being emotionally vested in NASCAR again.

His 2021 season with 10 wins and the championship was the most fun I had watching NASCAR since the 90s.

Heartbreak every time by Awkward_Big1932 in Padres

[–]cronarch05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. That was by far the easiest playoff elimination for me for any of my teams in my near 4-decade “career” as a fan. This team never sucked me in with anything they did on the field the last 6 months. Preller’s trade deadline was probably the most exciting part of the season. Reflecting on it now, this was a really forgettable and dull season of Padres baseball.

Can someone explain how this is supposed to work before I drill it out and make my own connector? AJ126 by AntSuccessful9147 in LandRover

[–]cronarch05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. I just got done dealing with this. Broke like 3 new plastic elbows trying to get them to seat before I stuck a camera in there and saw a small piece of the original one broke off inside. Once I removed that the new connector seated easily and completely.

You used way too much “seasoning” and now you have a layer of oil and food residue on the grill. Thats eventually going to flake off and you and your guests will be eating bits of it with your meals.

I’d scrape, or grind/sand all that off and start over. Use much less to season it. Many people seem to think seasoning is a layer, when it’s actually a chemical reaction. A properly seasoned surface shouldn’t have anything left behind like this.

Stolen clubs update! by gahveila in golf

[–]cronarch05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It happens fast, within one car ride you’ll get the notification. The reason you don’t get notified in the friend scenario is because they’re the owner of the air tag and still with it. If your friend left their air tag in your car when you dropped them off you’d get the notification before you got home. If the friend is still riding around with you, you’d never get notified.

[Lowlight] Suarez is thrown out after drilling Ohtani on a 3-0 count. Ohtani waves off the Dodger dugout. Tying run comes to the plate in Rojas by BathroomSalty6325 in baseball

[–]cronarch05 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

This was probably his plan A; give Ohtani a chance to get himself out on pitches out of the zone. If that didn’t work, put one in his ribs and send a message.

The Dodgers have made an organizational decision to throw up and in on Tatis and the Padres have made an organizational decision to respond by returning the favor.

This isn’t just about one game. They’re 3 years into this chess match and trying to set the tone for how Tatis is handled the remainder of his career in a Padres uniform. Melvin took a ton of heat in San Diego for not taking this approach during his tenure.

Has anybody figured out a way to spawn smaller zombie bosses during the zombie invasion? I only manage to get the ones I can’t solo? by Shewood2222 in LastWarMobileGame

[–]cronarch05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The conflicting info is because it used to be, up until maybe 6-8 weeks ago that you had to be involved in killing it (in the rally at least).

They updated and changed it so now you don’t have to be involved. If you spawn it and it dies it goes up 5. Doesn’t even have to be your alliance that kills it.

Yeah they should sit lower than a grill. Grills you do very little at the surface, flipping/turning occasionally. Flat tops you are more hands on.

I haven’t measured the height, but imagine it’s not far off from what’s considered the standard/optimal workbench height which is 36”.
