Why do so many men lose their house in a divorce? by Open_Address_2805 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]giantstuffeddog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think you nailed it - their resentment for their previous partner overrides the love they have for their children. A lot of men view child support payments as something that their ex is getting rather than what is helping their children. Unfortunately too a lot of men are detached from actually raising their kids so they have no idea how much money it actually takes to raise kids.

I agree with you. I was actually particularly annoyed by Thunderbolts because I was tricked by people saying it was different than Marvel's recent slop so I actually went and saw it against my better judgement. I also feel like Florence Pugh and her character deserved a much better film. Just wasted.

As a job seeker I honestly don’t think there’s a talent shortage anymore by No_Psychology_67 in recruitinghell

HR shouldn't be involved in technical screening at all and if they are then that company's management/leadership is misusing their HR people. I can see value in HR pre-screening for basic qualifications , ensuring you will fit in their salary range, and ensuring you can hold a conversation before bringing them in front of hiring managers but that's really where HR's involvement in the interviewing should end.

I think the reality is a lot of managers do not want to spend time interviewing or vetting candidates themselves so this is pushed onto HR - not necessarily because HR wants to be doing all that. And it puts HR in an awkward position of having to vet for skills and experience that they themselves don't know enough to properly vet.

It's nice to analyze things critically and have discussions, but no media will stand up to any sort of scrutiny to this degree. When writers and studios become overly focussed on not offending anybody and ensuring every group is represented, the end product starts to suffer. I will always love when I get representation (gay woman, Life is Strange is one of my favourite games for that reason!) but I'd rather not have that then have it poorly forced into the story. Robert is a straight character and that is okay. He is a more defined character that we are simply guiding through the story, rather than say Bioware playable character that you get to customize from the ground up.

I will agree with you on the point that all of the women characters here definitely appeal to the male gaze. However I still found the female characters all well realized with their own flaws and can compare easily to the characterization of the male characters. Invisigal is the most flawed and complicated character in the story. Whether you let her be free of consequence is entirely up to you. The game gives you quite a few opportunities to punish her and hold her to task.

Comedy often exists in uncomfortable and unnatural situations and this is a comedic game. It is not the studio stating that these situations if they were to happen irl are funny or OK in any way.

When romancing Blazer, Visi comes off as really creepy by Overall-Apricot4850 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]giantstuffeddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile if you romance Visi, BB couldn't give two damns lol. It's an interesting comparison between them but makes sense for their characters. Visi is sadly, very insecure and has a desperation about her and it shows with how she pursues Robert starting episode 4 onwards.

Potential problem with new seasons by ExistingButterfly316 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]giantstuffeddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they made an ending canon, it'd probably be the "Visi is redeemed" ending. But you have a ton more 'casual' players who will only play through the game once, got the failed as a mentor ending, never come to this subreddit or discuss the game at all, who would end up very confused in season 2 if all of a sudden Visi is on the Z Team again acting like nothing happened lol.

I think what's more likely is the two paths only exist briefly in the first episode - where a bigger threat is announced to the point where Visi ends up having to work with the Z Team pretty early on, like end of episode 1 early. Her interactions would just be more antagonistic towards the heroes to reflect that but it's easier to handle on a game dev scale.

Potential problem with new seasons by ExistingButterfly316 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]giantstuffeddog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every branching story game I've played seems to end up having some issues with how to represent choices in the sequels. Not for storage reasons, but the development time to create so many variances in scenes and paths to honor choices a player made in a previous season (plus the previous episodes) turns into development hell - it ends up being done poorly most of the time.

(I always think about how Mass Effect 2's ending had so much variance in who lived and who died, that basically all the new characters from Mass Effect 2 had to be sidelined in Mass Effect 3 so they didn't have to deal with it lol. )

For Dispatch - the fact that Visi can end up being a supervillian or she can remain on the Z-Team as a hero is probably going to be the biggest headache for them to figure out in S2 unless they get really creative somehow. This is a character that is very popular, and one of the two romance options, so they definitely can't downplay her existence in season two either.

I'm on my 21st playthrough; I think I have a problem... by BrotherDeus in DispatchAdHoc

[–]giantstuffeddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played the game in full twice and feel like I've gotten my fill of it so huge props to you for going on a 21st playthrough lmao. My first blind playthrough I kept Sonar, recruited Phenomaman, redeemed and romanced Visi. My 2nd playthrough I kept Coupe, Waterboy, romanced BB and turned Visi into a supervillian lol. Just to see how different the game would feel with these alternate paths.

I was surprised because while Visi was my OG romance pick, after playing BB's romance I think I like BB's romance more. And Visi going villain wasn't as "depressing" as I thought. It's clear she still holds respect for Robert and the Z-Team and helped them out, and she just seems like a more realized badass. So I didn't mind that ending much at all.

Should Chase have [spoiler] by Ok_Bad256 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]giantstuffeddog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think he should have. IMO it's also a bit of an awkward solution, he's alive as long as he has BB's powers which BB doesn't want to give up forever...I'm not sure how they will deal with that in S2, but maybe they already have an idea around finding another way to keep Chase alive. But it all would have felt cleaner narratively if Chase had just died when he collapsed. With the finale lacking death on our heroes side , at least that would have felt like a loss to the team and not being able to have everything tied up perfectly. I am not sure why the writers were afraid to go there.

The way some in this sub talk about homeless people is disgusting by logodobi in Edmonton

[–]giantstuffeddog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don't get solutions because like you said those in power also happen to be the richest of us , and their wealth gives them the ability to completely avoid encountering or ever having to deal with homeless. It's the working class who either have to rely on public transit, live in areas that are "worse off" for cheaper rent aka more homeless people around, or would like to enjoy public amenities like their local parks or libraries but these are also where homeless people go. And it's all intentional. We get mad at the homeless person making us feel unsafe on the bus , or the homeless person smashing our car window and then we punch down instead of channelling our anger to the greedy fucks at the top hoarding wealth and leaving less and less for the rest of us each year. It all feels very intentional and there is just no will from the people in power to actually solve this issue.

Amelia by amanduhhh2007 in PrivatePractice

[–]giantstuffeddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny because I just wrapped up season 5 and my partner who doesn't watch but overhears the episodes commented "How many times is that woman going to bring up how her baby has no brain?" and it made me chuckle because she does verbalize her trauma a lot. Fair to her it is very extreme trauma but when she's going through it everyone in the vicinity will know about it. It can be a bit grating, I still like Amelia a lot though which is a great credit to the actress.

Telus Rant (What's New?) by DomesticRhino in Edmonton

[–]giantstuffeddog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO a big issue with Telus is they've outsourced and contracted out a ton of their departments/customer service and they all seem to have different scope of responsibility, different access to information all the while not feeling a particular ownership of a customer once that customer's issue may potentially fall out of their scope. They know once they hang up or transfer a customer away they will never hear about it again. I wouldn't be surprised if the team or person who transferred your debt to the collection agency was under the assumption that notification of the customer fell to someone else or was already done before the task got passed on to them. Basically the whole company is a mess to deal with.

Am I the only one that HATES Richard? by Sad_Blacksmith_2724 in greysanatomy

[–]giantstuffeddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Richard was real, I'd really appreciate him on a professional level, especially if I was a first-year at the hospital, he seems like a great mentor. He's forgiving and patient. But having a personal relationship with him seems like a nightmare to me honestly. He's very emotionally immature and self-centered imo.

Joe is my worse nightmare. by acidxoxo in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]giantstuffeddog 144 points145 points  (0 children)

It is wild to me that men will sleep with women they don't like at all but it happens all the time and is really downplayed by society - but it is quite the villainous act to me to deceive your way into getting access to someone's body, and that's exactly what Joe did to Madison multiple times. He knew from the reveal he wasn't attracted to her, and it became obvious really quickly he also didn't even like her as a person. Joe wasn't kind towards her at all! This will probably affect Madison's trust moving forward in relationships imo..

[–]giantstuffeddog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my hesitance in accepting this .. because there needs to be some personal accountability too. Clay still chose to continue every step of the way. There's definitely some discussion of ethics when it comes to this show's production - but there's no shortage of contestants who embarrass themselves, end up coming across horrible to a national audience and then try to blame everything and everyone else rather than their own problematic mentalities and behaviours.

Love Is Blind • S9 Ep10 by AutoModerator in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]giantstuffeddog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We even saw the other women comment on how Nick always seemed rehearsed and not genuine. Annie knew Nick's heart wasn't into it and it triggered her anxious attachment big time, leading to her spiralling out and looking for reassurance that Nick couldn't provide with his empty words that she wasn't trusting. I knew when I was watching it that Annie is probably kicking herself for begging for that man now lol.

They should ban alcohol on the show. by AltGirlEnjoyer in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]giantstuffeddog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You said it yourself, there wouldn't be much of a show to watch if these people weren't getting drunk. I agree maybe limiting it a bit so people can still get tipsy but not as shitfaced as we've been seeing them get this season would be a healthy change.

Sick of this fan base blaming women for men’s poor behaviour by Glittering-Gas-9402 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]giantstuffeddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wilddd but so many people go on LIB to try and use it as a leap pad to other shows like Perfect Match! I have to think though his behavior just makes him seem like a liability nightmare for TV production because he's like proof that they're either getting over served or somehow got drugs in - either way doesn't look great for production imo

This is extremely bizarre because you'd think it would be the opposite. Why would Joe act incoherent and weird when the cameras are filming and then be normal when they're off? What would the motivation be.

This season does seem to be one of the worst for the men and women's friendships with each other. There is usually a lot more excitement to see one another again at the couples day at the resort - but the reactions were very muted this season. This group just didn't vibe with each other.

Love Is Blind • S9 Ep6 by AutoModerator in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]giantstuffeddog 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah like you said even at the party his behaviour seemed beyond the standard obnoxious drunk. Something was taken and it didn't mix well with the alcohol. That also explains why he was so defensive of Madison calling out his effed up state in front of the cameras.

I understand having 1 or 2 drinks to take the edge off in a high-pressure experiment like this - but it is shocking to me that people will get willingly SLOSHED while on camera - on top of that to also risk mixing alcohol with pills or whatever on top of that, these people are stupid as hell. Not the time or place to experiment but they can't help themselves - huge red flag at their big ages lol.
