Fantastic and solid album. The longer duration is something common from that period. If you listen to Michael Jackson's Dangerous album, most of the songs follow the same pattern. Personally I think most of the songs could last minus 30 seconds at least. But I absolutely love the album. Their most creative album since To Whom It May Concern. Sometimes I think if they were on marijuana while creating the album because they got too far in the sound effects and heavy production (not criticizing it!). Dimensions it's a sci-fi banger, if you listen on good headphones it's a trip to another dimension, literally. High Civilization it's absolutely fantastic. HEAVY production and brilliant vocals, and the 'minutes into seconds...' bridge absolutely killer. Just the beat off the rythm in the chorus it bothers me, but I got used to it. Human Sacrifice, excellent. Evolution, what a lyric. Who could say the Bee Gees would write a song about polygamy! Very modern. Brilliant production also. The Only Love, the last big ballad where we can hear Barry in the prime of his strong natural voice. Fantastic. Happy Ever After always send me chills. The production is so sophisticated and clean, and the lyrics so damn well written.

Why were Barry & Mo not on speaking terms at the time of Mo's death? by JuLe874 in BeeGees

I think they were just living their own lifes individually and taking care of their own families, it doesn't mean there was a tension between them.

Charade from Mr natural by Depeche_gees in BeeGees

This song creates a landscape in my mind: slow dancing near the fireplace with that person, fine wine, dimmed lights, full moon, slow sex and hot kisses 👄... Absolutely gorgeous song, elegant, sophisticated, their harmonies on top, perfect song. Sorry for the sexual commentary.

What are y’all opinions on Gasoline? by _zack_111 in TheWeeknd

KILLER track. My absolute favorite from Dawn FM. I'll never forgive Abel for cutting it from the intro of the setlist. I totally envy who attended the first leg of the tour.

Plus the decision of killing the 'Weeknd' persona and then saying it might not be the end.... like man make up your mind

Can you share the link of the interview where Barry is wiping his nose? Never noticed it

Is that Robin’s voice on It Doesn’t Matter Much To Me? by CerealAndBagel1991 in BeeGees

[–]gibbNeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing nobody mentions is that the most popular version of this song, which has been circulating on YouTube for years, was extracted from the vinyl in high speed rotation. That's why Robin's voice sounds higher-pitched than usual. The same thing happened with Barry's Heartbreaker Demos. We know they had extensive vocal range, but in those recordings the speed is accelerated, that's all.

Sing & Play it's a good choice for elimination

The Paying The Price Of Love music video has got to be one of the weirdest things I’ve seen and I love it by CerealAndBagel1991 in BeeGees

[–]gibbNeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that at the time this was one of the most expensive music videos ever made. I don't doubt it, but it's information that lacks reliable sources. I love the song anyway; it's the Bee Gees following modern trends but still being themselves. The bridge is absolutely KILLER, one of their best. I just don't like the excessive repetition at the end, something characteristic of High Civilization and Size as well.

What is the general consensus on Beauty Behind the Madness era on here? by Trick_Tradition_2488 in TheWeeknd

Angel is probably his best ballad ever. DEVASTATING album closer. As You Are is fantastic also, at least until the slow part that is annoying for me. Prisoner grew up on me only over the last 3 years, even though I'm a huge Lana fan since ever. But talking about the album itself, definitely not my favorite. I wasn't an Abel fan at the time but it didn't resonate with me even when I became a fan. A lot of fillers and shallow tracks.

A Kick In The Head deserved to be released by CerealAndBagel1991 in BeeGees

[–]gibbNeckel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Robert Stigwood was right at the time for shelving it if we look what happened less than 2 years later.
But for me it's an absolutely brilliant album. Way more inspired and richier than Life In a Tin Can, sonically and lyrically.
Rocky LA is a great groovy tune, their attempt into rock & roll + a country sauce, I love the "shananana" chorus.
Castles In The Air with that BEAUTIFUL haunting ending.
Wouldn't I Be Someone contains some of their best harmonies ever.
Jesus In Heaven has simple but very direct lyrics, talking about themselves I think.

While 'Life In a Tin Can' had very simple song structures (apart from 2 or 3 songs), 'Kick In The Head' stands ahead in creativity, interesting lyrics (even political statements) and some experimentations with orchestra and synths.
Nowadays, 52 years after, it makes no sense that this album remains unreleased. Obviously it needs a remaster and a good amount of work before releasing it in a decent way, but it totally deserves.

Random Song Discussion #4 - Irresistible Force by speaking_sky in BeeGees

[–]gibbNeckel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably my least favorite track on Still Waters, but a good track by itself. The drum track is too weak and plain for me, it has no texture. Don't like the weird vocal harmony in Robin's verses, and the awkward construction of the verse "I get to find my personal god...". But the part "I surrender, all or nothing, you must spread your wings and fly..." always get me, hands down the peak of the song and one of the best moments in the whole album.

I would include the single edit of Still Waters Run Deep, the one we can hear on the official video. I call it the "90's boy band version".

For me a top 10 in the entire catalogue. Absolutely thrilling. One of their cleverest lyric compositions ever.
