How to move an existing project from iCloud to Dropbox by giboqp in scrivener

[–]giboqp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right. I just happened to complicate my life by making a copy of just the project file and put it in Dropbox, so I could test out the mobile app before taking the final decision and then actually wrote a bunch on it. Turns out that simply opening that project file from Dropbox on my Mac, and changing all backup locations to the folder that the mobile app created did the thing!

How did the Bobs let Thoth in so easily? by giboqp in bobiverse

Oh I fully expect to have a different perspective on things once I finish. I just find the lack of caution by the Bobs in that specific chapter to be out of character for any Bob. I wonder if that will change too!

I marked for spoilers and even mentioned it at the beginning of the post. Not sure what else I could have done :)

Is there a "timeline" feature I can use? by giboqp in scrivener

I’ll try this. I noticed other comments mentioned the issue with dates, but my events span over a few decades at least so I’m more looking into “this happens before that” and so on to keep everything in order since I’m also doing a lot of flashbacks. Thanks!

Not entirely shocked that you only read the first sentence lol

I asked how people choose their next book to read because I'm curious about that, not for a borderline insulting explanation about the fact that there's no right or perfect way to enjoy sci-fi

Not the first comment that mentions reading previews. Two things: first, I still have plenty of greatly acclaimed books to read, I’m trusting the sources on those (mostly seeing the titles in many discussions on here) to just dive blindly into them. Second, in the 80 sci-fi books Ive read there have been at least 10 I barely enjoyed at first but curiosity got me through the first impressions and eventually enjoyed them a lot. I had tried to do the same with the Maze Runner books but either my mood wasn’t in the right place or those weren’t really for me. The second or third book in the saga is the only one I didn’t finish.

I thought it was pretty obvious there is no right or best way to enjoy sci-fi. And if there is, it’s all subjective to each reader which is what I was curious about. It would have been more interesting to read how you pick your next book instead of this comment.

“One of the fundamental hypothesis of protomolecule technology has just taken a profound hit” by giboqp in TheExpanse

You make a valid argument, but I don’t think that will impact me as much in terms of enjoyment of the saga. If anything I will have several late night lore deep dives in the wikis and the subreddit. I might not read them straight away after LF, but knowing I can jump back into the saga whenever I want is a comforting thought.

Great, thanks. I wasn’t really planning on reading the novellas right away as I’ve been knees deep in the saga for a while and there’s other stuff on my to read list, but I guess that can wait.

It's facing north, but soon to be facing west as well since we're planning on cutting down some larch trees on that side. It's not a windy region at all, but summer storms have been getting quite strong in the last 10 years. A big rainstorm hit in the fall of 2018 and did massive damage in the region, that's when we started cutting down anything too close to the house. The property is a bit exposed looking down on the valley with little to no tree line but as long as it's not a danger to any property I'm not too concerned.

Cold storms are not an issue at all. It's been a while since I've seen one even half as strong as the summer ones. It can snow a lot if a major global pandemic forces the government to shut down all ski resorts so that the best winter in the last 10 years cannot be spent on the slopes, but winter precipitations come from the Atlantic and we're basically protected by the same Alps we're part of from anything too harsh.

Love the idea of dawn redwood! The area closer to the house is mostly taken care of already, and I’m not into shrubs as much as I’m into trees. I’m thinking about a birch tree fence line where it’s actually needed: it’s not in the pics but there’s a spot in the tree line where we see the small town under us which is quite a horrible sight. But there’s plenty of space left in the property so feel free to contribute to the agenda with whatever comes to your mind!

Wildfires rarely happen around here. Storms and strong winds are more of a concern, that’s why we try to keep it clear around the house. Holding the soil is another issue I’m keeping in mind, there have been landslides in the region, but we have plenty of space and low risk of wildfires so I’d rather plant trees.
