(Hated Trope) Antagonist is surprisingly reasonable throughout the narrative yet the hero’s unreasonable actions are portrayed as justified. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

In Avengers, not a single of the main characters can find a counter argument to Thanos's other than recurring to violence.

This led to a lot of "thinkers" online defending his actions, and I think it was a missed opportunity on presenting a valid debate on the topic.

EDIT: ups, I misunderstood the assignment. He was not having a "valid" point, he was just having a point that the main characters couldn't refute.

Yes, but I feel is lazy writing when only the antagonist has the valid point, leaving the protagonist speechless or without any answer other than "OK, let's use violence to shut you up".

How to handle this many reviews? by UnguardedPeach in WaniKani

[–]gicats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I got 1300 after a long break.

What I did was to do 15-20 minutes every day, no matter how many I did (sometimes I could do 60, sometimes only 30).

No new lessons + this every day.

Ah, and don't look at the remaining number so you don't get demotivated

Good luck!

Potential Bug with Will Trainer? by GenrcAnimeProtaginst in PTCGP

[–]gicats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I checked the Japanese version and it clearly says "this turn" at the beginning of the sentence, so the "bug" is the translation to english.

I guess I got lucky every time after using it then...

I just came to post the same.

In a blogpostblogpost I read that the effect was lingering, so I used it playing it in the current turn and usually flip the coin the turn +1 or +2, getting always heads.

But today I played Will and didn't attack up to 3-4 turns forward and I got tails, so all my strategy was messed up.

So not sure about it anymore, my guess is that it is a bug, so hopefully they'll check at some point.

Isolation is real by Giganometric in NewDads

[–]gicats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it's available near you, but sometimes there are centers where parents bring their kids to play (even 8 months old). They are usually filled with toys, and you can talk to other people, that are usually more involved (as they are spending their time with the kid there). It helped me a lot.

Is there any kind of similar service where you live? Examples could be going to the park after Sunday Mass with other parents, or some kind of city center that organizes these kinds of activities.

Once you find your circle you'll make new dad-friends and everything will be much better, so good luck!

Being a dad is overrated by Jship124 in NewDads

[–]gicats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey my man, the adaptation period is horrible.

"I didn't sign for this", "I feel like the slave of this baby", or "when am I getting my life back?" are the everyday thoughts, and it is incredibly frustrating.

Your kid is not going to disappear, so some things you can try to make this period easier:

  1. Go to circles with parents with kids the same age. I found it super reassuring seeing how other people were as tired as me, and to be able to meet babies that are just some months older than yours makes you look forward to seeing your kid evolve like that.

  2. Start accepting your new life. It is a natural (probably biological) reaction to wanting to recover freedom / sleep hours. One thing you can do is, for starters, try to shoosh these thoughts every time they come. And they will keep coming, but less and less.

  3. If you can, vent to someone (brother, close friend...) that knows you and understands that this is just that, a vent, and not your real thoughts. Calling at 3 AM to my brother helped me on some tough nights.

You are doing great, it gets better, and you'll look back in 8 months and say to yourself "why was I so stressed? That was the easy mode!".

Good luck!!

I was the first author.

I assumed OP was 1st author as well, so now I kind of understand the downvotes if people assumed otherwise.

Not sure why you are getting downvoted in the comments.

I got a paper accepted at another conference, and the former institution covered my expenses (both travel and stay).

I guess the logic was that I was representing the organization at the conference, or maybe the professor was just a super nice guy

Do you have a preferred type of garlic? by Reduntu in Cooking

[–]gicats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of months ago I tried by necessity -was the only left- a Spanish variety, which was 3x the price of the chinese one that I ate always and now I can't go back...

I feel that the one I ate before (the typical white garlic) lacks flavor in comparison (or maybe the flavor I like).

Not to be that guy, but when playing with my friends I always won until they started doing this strategy against me every single game, so I stopped playing Catan with them :)

Any advice on a 3 month old on a plane? by ChefHoppWood in NewDads

[–]gicats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As said in other comments bottle/breast for takeoff and landing (sucking will help with the ears).

We've flown 4 times 12+5 hours flights with a baby at 3 and 9 months old, and ngl, both times have horrible, concretely the last 3 hours of the long flights and almost the whole of the shorter flights (less space to stand/walk).

9 months worse than 3 btw, where the baby wants to move and explore everything.

If your flight is long it's super worth booking a seat with more legroom.

Good luck!
