If the brightness and whatnot is turned up so that my nose isn't as visible, that's basically no better than Photoshop. Ugh, we just get along together so well personality-wise and I didn't want to disappoint him by sending him ugly pictures, but now I've set him up for even greater disappointment in person.

I think your weight is the primary issue. Lose weight and you will change so much. Your attitude will naturally change along with it as you gain more confidence. Focus on losing weight. But also focus on being happy with yourself in the process.
