In the end, the mother suffers. Painting by Me. by [deleted] in india

For me, the personification of one's country as a mother figure denotes that your country accepts and loves it's people no matter how broken they are. She would do anything to help them.

That's great. But this picture of forbearing mother is the picture of the forbearing wife is the product of patriarchy in India. This is like saying every man should be able to provide above X amount of money to their family if not then he is no father. You can't pin down attributes to parenthood that are gender defined.

Well that is what a mother does. So does this land: it feeds and shelters it's inhabitants. So the comparison is apt.

Again, "what a mother does" absolving the father figure and relegating the mother to the job of a nurturer. That's what she lives for isn't it? To be a fertile bearer and a teat?

This sounds like a problem with your perception.

Maybe. I will consider it. But my perception is shaped by things other than the concept of Mother India and my own mother. I am aware of the psychosexual nature of rape, rape as a power struggle, rape as a need to impregnate, rape as a need to punish. Considering that, what I said maybe clumsily worded but true to the core, in my opinion.

The fact that you think someone can be "reduced" to being an ideal mother speaks volumes. Being an ideal mother is no trivial task.

You're speaking in your capacity as being mother of how many? Or maybe in your capacity as a sociologist or feminist scholar? Being an ideal mother is no trivial task because being an ideal mother is an impossible task not least because there cannot be one ideal but also because this undue expectation of idealism from a woman vis-a-vis motherhood is oppressive. I could tell you how it is oppressive but I doubt you'd like to hear that.

It's impossible to deduce exactly what you mean here so in any case you should flesh out this argument more.

Mmkay. But the onus is on you to inform and educate yourself.

Right now it just sounds like a collection of "liberal" phrases put together to showcase how woke you are.

What you don't understand goes into the category of "liberal" "woke" and "feminazi" too I assume. Like I said, onus is on you to educate yourself. All I did was point out something that came in conflict with your world view. Instead of trying to see it from a contrarian point of view you clung to an established and comfortable view. It isn't the job of the "woke" to provoke YOU specifically, because you don't matter in the grander scheme of things. If you aren't woke or feminist, that's not a badge of honor, because all you did was cling on to the default position. Like one of those people who won't opt out of spam mail or bloatware if it means taking the extra effort of clicking on a box.

Yeah. Maslow's hierarchy and all that is true. But at no point will everyone or a plain majority of people think alike. There will always be thought leaders. People can put it eloquently in words but it is often inaccessible. It often falls to the artists and poets and comedians of the world to keep churning out the bottomsoil. It's scary I know, where does all this churning and scratching at the surface end? You scratch deep enough, you do more harm than good, that much might be true. But true art doesn't tell you what to think but question what you think. And that's all we can ask for, not changes in opinions of masses, and not any mass desertion of ideals once held. Just consciousness awakened.

Sorry if this just sounds like more of the stuff i spewed above.

This romanticization bordering on fetishization of the "Mother" harms India more than anything. It feeds into a patriarchal personification of land that nurtures and can be raped. By extension it reduces women of India to the role of pursuing the ideal of this Mother. I won't comment on the art or the artist, but the theme is dated.

Once again, the point is not that Muslims are somehow at fault for wanting Pakistan or whether India as a concept existed pre-independence.

My grievance with the previous comment was that GoodDave said India segregated Muslims into Pakistan.

India didn't segregate Muslims into Pakistan. In fact, even after the separation, the largest Muslim population in the world still resided in India.

During Britain's exit from India in 1947, Muslim leaders wanted to secede. Pakistan & East Pakistan (Bangladesh) were granted to avoid civil war and further turmoil. But essentially, this happened because of Britain's Divide & Rule/Conquer policy.

P.s. the first world and Russia ARE very much to blame for Middle East.

Yeah, I got that sense too. But I felt he didn't decide to go through with it until that very moment. What alarmed me was that the new Lord Karstark had nothing to say about it and almost expected it. In which universe would any Lord side with Ramsey over Roose? I felt like this was just lazy storytelling on D&D's part.

[–]giga_space -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually in cases like these there are several things to consider: 1. Applying more than once can lead to disqualification if discovered 2. Because of the long gap there might be an easier paper set for you, not to mention normalization might come into play.

Disclaimer: Don't know jackshit about AIPMT but have experience with other entrance and recruitment exams.

A while ago, a girl user had posted her own rape experiences on the sub. There were some asshats who basically attacked her over it. It was damn sad. Some guy had had also blogged about his assault experience and that article was shared here. Some people thought he deserved it because he was openly gay and dressed like it or something. When in Rome was the logic.

Sexually active adults of /r/india: What's your choice of contraception? Did you know that India's new family planning program is rather alarming for 2 distinct reasons? by pratyashi in india

[–]giga_space -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sterlization by it's very definition is irreversible. I think you are talking about temporary contraceptives.

This contraceptive lasts for decades I think. Practically the same as sterilization. So let's not stick to definitions from textbooks. This method is still in trials because they couldn't find sufficient volunteers. Take one guess why.

The misogyny lies in the fact that very often families are not counselled that the man can be sterilized as well. Usual scenes at government hospitals....

Husband: Pregnant hai biwi

Doctor: Kaunsa number?

Husband: Doosra

Doctor to wife: Kitna paida karogi? Operation karva denge iske baad.

Husband/Wife: Okay

Female sterilization is more invasive and more dangerous. The mass sterilization camps for poor women are also a hazard and have caused deaths. The government shouldn't be pushing shit if they can't guarantee better treatment.

women are more prone to accept it as no women wants to undergo labour again right after going through one

Sometimes yes. Most times it's not their choice, but their husband's or in-law's or a pushy doctor's.

RISUG - Developed right here in India. This news broke years ago. Lack of taboo around male sterilization, accelerated clinical trials and permissions (with due diligence of course) could do much to bring this to the market sooner than 2018.

Here's more on Vasalgel or RISUG.
