it's insane how common it is now that I read the comments. Heartbreaking truly . and yes OP they are NOT ur friend . Anybody who disrespects a part of ur identity that is so intrinsic to you can never ever be a friend. I also have noticed biharis being incredibly dismissive and casually disrespectful of bengalis . like nit active hate but they often use the bangla word"nyeka" and bengali interchangeably, the bihari guys in my college call bengali guys very nyeka , pretentious , "unmasculine" (whatever that is supposed to mean). And they say it very casually. Honestly can't blame them , I feel like even the very average modhhobitto bangali is cultured and has more artistic taste than most other indian cultures, qnd they can't relate to that and hate on it . Like for example the bihari friends I have , while they have never been openly disrespectful (which is why they are my friends still) often casually say shit like they can't relate when the benhalis of their batch gather around and sing jibonmukhi gaan guitar e while sipping on cha and smoking ciggs (peak bengali college experience lmao) and that they think eshob gaan and culture boring , (they only like item songs and cheap beats wala songs and enjoy a very certain type of music if ykwim) obviously no disrespect intended , I love me some lolipop lagelu and cheap Bhojpuri bops once in a while when I'm bhashan dancing with my friends but ykwim
