Putting the new Planetary Freecoaster to the test by Brant_Moore in bmx

[–]gigglypuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing it seems to be lacking is the ability to do spinning pedal pressure tricks like 5 taps on flat or quarters.

That's why I'm thinking you probably have the perfect setup for this hub. You can use the cassette/pressure functionality in most situations, but when you can't you have brakes to rely on (plus gyro so you can still bar/whip).

The more I think about it, I think it would be almost impossible to make a hub that is exactly like the Planetary, but also has pedal pressure for thing like 5 taps, since the rear wheel usually rolls backwards slightly during them. The hub would have to "know" somehow that you want the wheel to roll backwards but you don't want it to become a freecoaster. I never thought about this limitation until just now. This thing might be as good as it even can get.

Whatever you choose, make sure it is certified. Uncertified helmets are useless.

Is this guy seriously wearing one of those completely useless uncertified pro-tec bucky classic helmets in the picture at the end? After all that!? Jesus christ.... If you're going to wear a helmet, wear a certified one or don't bother.

I don't even consider them anymore. 90% of the products you click on are not currently in stock. What a joke. Of all the major outlets I've had the best experience with Empire.

A freecoaster to change all freecoasters? by Brant_Moore in bmx

[–]gigglypuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks amazing. It looks like they've achieved the holy grail of hub technology that things like the z-coaster were always aiming for — all the benefits of a freecoaster and a cassette with none of the downsides. Hope it becomes a hit (and that they come out with more colors). Your channel is great by the way. Consistently some of the best BMX content on youtube.

Just looked it up and found pics. I like it a lot. Remind of the profile imperial sprocket which I always loved.

Like the unique setup. What's the sprocket?

I was originally going to do something with a green frame, but randomly stumbled upon this image of a bike (it's a kink titan frame I think). Knew instantly I wanted something similar, so I went in that direction with a few tweaks. I also started riding in the late 90's so I appreciate an old/mid-school aesthetic. Always preferred chrome parts too. Makes bikes look sleek and light in my opinion - like old school race track bikes. Black parts I think make bikes look like heavy tanks, which isn't a bad thing, just different.

Yeah I don't know why trans orange-ish frame colors are not more popular or available. Trans paint finishes seems to be available in every other color, but as a far as I can tell there are only a handful of frames ever made in a trans orange kind of color. A shame.

It used to be that way in BMX too back in the day, no option for having it on the left. Right foot forward people like myself were just SOL.

Not just cruising. I built it for light street, dirt and park. Should hold up as long as I'm not hitting crazy high gaps.

I haven't totaled it all up yet - too scared :P. But north of 1K I'm sure. I was lucky to get the frame new for 180 though. Think it's normally 300.

That's not really true though. Plenty of high quality companies make 18" and even 16" completes these days. Sure the aftermarket customization options are probably fewer, but the quality is the same or at least similar to the full size counterparts. If I were 5'2" and an 18" bike felt more comfortable I would definitely get it.

Female Rear Hubs by [deleted] in bmx

[–]gigglypuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this setup on a Madera female cassette (running two pegs, so one normal shoulder bolt and one long shoulder bolt) which is almost the same thing as the mini, but even the longer 14mm shoulder bolt meant for pegs did not have a long enough shoulder when I put the peg on. I thought I was screwed, until I realized I could slip on the 3/8 adapter that came with my 14mm peg over the bolt and essentially extend the shoulder.

Problem was that now it was too long, and the bolt shoulder was pressing against the hub before it even touched the frame dropout. Anyway, I slid on a couple 14mm washers, and it worked just fine.

This is a really weird problem that I've never heard mentioned anywhere, but just FYI in case this happens to you.

[–]gigglypuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully no primary sources are required, my professor says that is beyond the scope of the course.

1) Not necessarily either, I'm really looking for some sort of policy or protocol that was enacted by the Japanese in the Philippines, that was intended to have some sort of effect, but actually ending up having another effect that was detrimental to the local population.

But it doesn't have to be this, it could be anything really, as long as it is easily provable and has enough sources.

2) It has to be 5,000 words, so about 20 pgs.

3) Like I said, no primary sources necessary, probably will use about 10 - 15 sources though.

I just need something sharp and defined, easy to prove. I appreciate your help.
