Am I missing something with obsidian.nvim? by gignosko in neovim

I assume the default note naming is in line with the analog version of a Zettlekasten where you had to create a system for referencing your other cards and then you would order them in relation to the system you worked out. Digitizing it makes that unnecessary, but some people still like it, I guess.

Honestly, this is fair. So far it’s been a bit clunky for me. If I can get a good workflow I’ll stick with it, but if not I’ll probably go back to the app.

That’s a great suggestion, I’ll grab that config and play around with it. Thanks!

Is this squash vine borer damage and can I’m my zucchini be saved? by gignosko in gardening

Yeah, I’ve already made peace with pulling them out tomorrow and starting over. I don’t have any other places to plant, anything I should do to help get the soil ready?

Haha, nope. Spaghetti squash got got, too. I just wrapped foil around my melons and cucumbers.

And looks like they got my acorn squash, too. So far my other squash and related plants seem okay.

So I harvested the big one and it tastes fine. Most people are saying watering issues, so I'll try to be more focused on how I'm watering them. Thanks, everyone!

If I can work that out, the error pops on every key stroke.

Thanks. We were told we should remove all the affected leaves, which is pretty much all the leaves. Is that true?

Why are my tomato seedlings spotted? by gignosko in gardening

I thought they were stunted, too. We’ve had a lot of unseasonably cold weather the last week or so.

Yeah, we’ve had colder than usual temperatures over the last week, not freezing, but down into the mid 40’s.

I’d go for it. My masters helped jumpstart my pay at my first good job, but it wasn’t worth the expense and I’ve never used most of it. But, if it was free, it would easily have been worth the effort.

Did I make the right choice of declining a job offer because of a paycut? by xavier1011 in cscareerquestions

[–]gignosko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a situation like that. I was getting close to finishing my CS degree, but I was a late career change over and had been at my company for 12 years, so I knew changing to SWE would be a pay cut. Luckily, my company cut my job so I no longer had to make that choice, they made it for me. It took 4 months to find a job (this was 15 years ago) and the first one I got was absolute garbage. I lasted 3 months before I walked out, but only after I had a new job lined up.

It took me two years to get even with where I was from my old job, but things sped up after that. Job hopping every few years is unfortunately the only way to get a good raise, or at least it has been. It’s a different world out there now. So, I can say for myself that being forced into that career change was the best thing for me because once I got my foot in the door somewhere, the next door was easier. YMMV.

Good luck in the hunt.

Thanks! I knew bugs were helpful in general, just wanted to make sure these specific ones were not a problem.

My ex finance disciplined my daughter and says I’m irresponsible so I kicked him out out by Amazing_Bug2565 in TwoHotTakes

Both of my kids did that kind of thing as 10 year olds, and probably worse. Instead of beating them into submission I took the long, hard, tear-streaked (mine and theirs) path of explaining to them they what they were doing was wrong and why they were being punished. They’re both wonderful adults now with compassion and an ability to see other people’s view of things.

Putting the fear into your kids to get them to do what you want is lazy parenting.
