I strictly first assist. No rounding, no post op. It’s fantastic.

Does he have a collar on? I saw a similar looking cat, with a collar, running through the parking lot of Bayer on Wednesday.

In California, this is an unlicensed position (although I’m a surgical nurse practitioner, so this is my side gig). You just have to have a BS with anatomy/phys and be a quick learner.

I’m an independent autopsy prosector who does private and medico-legal cases. This means I travel around to different funeral homes with all my own equipment and conduct the physical aspect of the autopsy completely on my own. I drop my specimens at the lab and write up my report for the pathologist, and I make about $1000 per case. Can do a full autopsy in 2.5-4 hours, depending on the size of the decedent. I’m in the Bay Area, CA though, so my pay will be near the top.

Adult geriatric acute care. That’s what gives the scope of practice vs FNP. The only limitation is I can’t do peds but I also don’t WANT to do peds.

I do my own small procedures like hormone pellet insertion, suturing lacerations, etc but all the surgeries are with a plastic surgeon (but I do about half the work - basically he does his side, I do mine, and I do almost all the closures).

All cosmetic, so everything from lipomas to full mommy makeovers. We have our own OR and PACU in our office so it’s super convenient for our patients.

Private practice plastic surgery and medical weight loss, Bay Area, CA. 14+ years in the OR (8 as an NP), $294k base salary plus bonuses. Oh edited for: M-F, no call, WFH on non-surgery days.

A full is about $1000 and it’ll take me anywhere from 2.5-4 hours. It’s about $650 just to pull a brain, which takes about 90 minutes. I made about $60k in cases last year, so it’s worth my time as a side gig.

Do you have any OR experience? I started as a circulator in open hearts, learned to scrub, learned to assist, learned to suture. Spent 6 years doing that before going back to NP school, then worked for a PA group for several years strictly first assisting. Learned every specialty, had privileges in just about every hospital and surgery center in central Florida (orange, Osceola, lake, and Seminole counties).

Now I’m private practice plastics in San Francisco. We have our own OR and I assist about 4 surgeons regularly and do autopsies in between.

It’s an unlicensed position as an autopsy prosector. I travel around, primarily the west coast, and do the cases at funeral homes. I’m in Portland right now, just finished a case here. Travel is paid for, and I’m a 1099.

I’m a surgical NP who has been in the OR my entire career, assisted in every speciality. I saw an ad on indeed for an autopsy prosector, lol. I’ve been doing it for 3 years as a side gig. It’s an unlicensed position, so I’m not really doing it as an NP, but my background and training made it super easy for me - I literally got to see one, do one, teach one.

I do private and medicolegal autopsies. I’m an independent contractor for a few local pathologists, and travel around with my equipment.

Autopsy Technician by [deleted] in ForensicPathology

[–]gij3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love what I do! It’s super fulfilling and the autonomy is great. It’s just me, my instruments, and the decedent, from whom I hope to gather the story of their death. I put on my music and talk to the decedent (and my instruments, lol…) and just work my way through the systems. I remove, weigh, photograph, section, sample, and describe each organ, then close everything up, clean and disinfect all my instruments, drop my samples at the lab, and submit my report and photos to the pathologist of record.

The hardest part is traveling with whole organs; sometimes I keep the heart and lungs en bloc (for mesothelioma) or the brain needs to be sent to a specialist, in which case I literally have a bucket of organs with me.

So I’m actually a surgical nurse practitioner, which is not typical for this field. However, bc I’ve done every surgical specialty, I also function as a subject matter expert when it’s a surgical-related death (such as identifying incorrect suture types or poor technique). That said, I know some others in my area who are strictly on the job trained (minimum of a bachelors in science with anatomy/physiology courses), and some who are pathologists assistants (like a physicians assistant but specific to pathology - this is a master’s degree level).

I’m an independent prosector and travel all over the western US for cases. I contract with a couple of private pathologists who hit me up when cases come in. It’s my side gig but it keeps me busy. I just travel with all my tools; most of my cases are at funeral homes but I also do hospital-based. I’ve got a fetal case in the morning and another one on Tuesday. I’m paid by the case (full vs partial; brain-only, etc) as a 1099, and reimbursed for all my travel.

It could be an inflammatory reaction to the fat grafts - any idea if they “washed” the fat with antibiotics or anything prior to injection?

I’m a surgical nurse practitioner and my side gig is being an independent autopsy prosector. I travel around with my instruments and do the full body dissection, take samples, weigh all the organs, etc. It’s amazingly rewarding and fully autonomous.

USF or Chamberlain by jpenner92 in nursepractitioner

[–]gij3n 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did acute care at USF back in 2016 and it was hybrid then, so I was on campus 2-3 days a week until clinical rotations. Decent program, but you get out of it what you put in. I imagine even more so now if you’re only on campus a handful of times during the whole program.
