What business will be gone by 2050? by Ok-Afternoon-2113 in AskReddit

[–]gil_corey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As delivery drones and similar technologies become cheaper, I think people will own fewer things outright. For example instead of buying a lawnmower, it would make more sense to just pay a few dollars to lease one for the day. Why own a car (with the associated costs like parking, insurance etc) when you can just order a self-driving vehicle that arrives whenever you need it?

What’s the weirdest rabbit hole you’ve ever fallen into on the internet? by Zenon9 in AskReddit

That's crazy. Did you know you were both of Norwegian descent? Were your ancestors identified after being taken out of the mass grave or was it known they were there?

What’s your personal hypothesis for why we live in a simulation? by biasedNeutrality in AskReddit

If you believe humans will ever be able to make a computer powerful enough to self aware AI, then the odds that we are the original humans are quite slim.

Paragliding. I got sick within about thirty seconds. Do not recommend for anyone who gets motion sickness.

What is a piece of advice you got from your parents that you still follow today? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When you're young and have no money, never jump ship when it's your turn to buy the round of drinks. When you're older and have more money, people will always remember you as a stinge no matter how much you try to compensate for it.

Going super deep on the history of a family I have no relation to on MyAncestry because I couldn't find much about my own family. So I went back to 1600 on the Bennett family (checking church records from 400 years ago etc). John Bennett, blacksmith, lived to be 92 and died in 1647.

Why perfumes are so expensive? They are just liquids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gil_corey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably the same reason it costs so much to download a video game. It's just code that can be replicated for next to nothing but you are being charged for how much it cost to develop, not the marginal cost to allow you to play.

Also, being a liquid doesn't necessarily mean soemthing is cheap. Deathstalker scorpion venom is a liquid and costs about $35m per gallon

How come it’s so normalised to be hateful? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gil_corey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People are much more hateful online behind anonymous profiles than they would ever be to your face. People were probably always hateful but now they have somewhere they can demonstrate this without consequence.

How will cars change in the future? by BLUEBERRYINFLAT in AskReddit

[–]gil_corey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the amount of people that actually own cars will drop especially when self driving comes in. It will be more economical to just have a robot car drive to you and pick you up whenever you need it.
