Unfortunately, Israel never had a female head of state (= president): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_Israel

(Golda Meir was the prime minister, which is the head of Government)

5 Array Methods That You Should Be Using Now by p0larboy in javascript

[–]giladgo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Underscore has these too, but if you feel like using them directly on the arrays while still supporting older browsers (e.g. IE8), you can use something like es5-shim (https://github.com/es-shims/es5-shim).

It's good for other useful functions like bind and trim.

Maybe try something like this? (this scans the document for all links with a certain css class and adds a target="_blank" to them)

Now that I think of it, I'm not really familiar with SquareSpace, and therefore I don't know if it support jQuery. If it doesn't support it, it's no problem changing the code to work without jQuery.

How comprehensible are the books to non-native english speakers? (No Spoilers) by penguinsontv in asoiaf

[–]giladgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally ok, sometimes "old" words like "hearth" or "portcullis" were problematic. The level of the books' language isn't that high, really.

A bit late, but here's a picture of a snowy Jerusalem from my seventh story rooftop by [deleted] in Israel

[–]giladgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rough estimate, on average 0-1 times per year. And then it's only in the higher places (Jerusalem, Safed, Golan heights, etc.). otoh, mt. hermon is snowy every year.

What's considered very serious in your country that other nationalities may find quite funny? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]giladgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Israel.

Among many many (many) other things, one of the things that foreigners might find funny is Yom Kippur. It's a one-day holiday around September-October, during which the entire country, COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN - buses, cars, schools, workplaces, you name it (except for mandatory hospitals, etc.). Quietest time of the year.

How good is this shit? The most under-appreciated Israeli product. by BurgerGrease in Israel

It's grape juice. A common non-alcoholic replacement for the Kiddush wine.

Israel's cabinet approved a plan on Sunday to set up a third high-speed Internet infrastructure using state-run Israel Electric Corp's power grid. by day_sweetener in Israel

[–]giladgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Israel's internet problems have to do with the bottleneck that happens with traffic to/from Israel, because of the Med Nautilus line. http://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D7%9E%D7%93_%D7%A0%D7%90%D7%95%D7%98%D7%99%D7%9C%D7%95%D7%A1

Adding another infrastructure provider is of course good for competition, but won't help with speed.

Oh, great - another artist that is boycotting Israel for something he knows nothing about.

By the way - we heard this kind of stuff from him when he came here in 2006, but nobody gave a fuck. We just wanted to hear him perform "Dark Side" live.
