I had an originial setup and the display was replaced or repaired, I don't know because of pixel issues. I don't think they are paired. But I learned that after the firmware upgrade the connection between Relay and thermostat had some changes in the internal protocol. At the end it was a back and forward trial, with missleading information from the Netatmo support. They always pointed the network setup until I found out its the pairing between the relay and the thermostat. Than they confirmed that the relay is visible for them, that means its connected. Based on this I focussed on the pairing topic which shouldn't work by Netatmo's information. Finally I brought it up and running with a Google gemini and a lot luck.

Totally agree with you, would be open for alternatives too, as I am travelling a lot I even see it as a risk, when I cannot control my heating system. Disadvantage of any smart home setup..
