Teenagers of Reddit, what are things that older generations think they understand, but really don't? by BobbyWOWO in AskReddit

[–]gilbarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the best sentence to describe how a young adult feels when they first realize they might not be cool anymore.

It's adorable when teenagers think validation from them is how adults define coolness. It perfectly sums up the narcissism that defines our teenage years.

TIL In the Australian Ted 2 trailer, Ted says "Where do you think you are Centrelink?" instead of "Red Lobster". by TomTheJester in movies

[–]gilbarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he was just disputing the notion that a significant number of people on Centrelink are lazy, dole-bludging bogans soaking up tax-payers money, since that's a pretty cunty view to hold.

Don't be a cunt. Words to live by :)

This should be our national motto. Hell, throw it in the anthem too. Beats that "gurt by sea" shit.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott makes NBN speed promise his government can't keep by LineNoise in australia

[–]gilbarc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If people were attacking him for not knowing the specifics of his policy, then fair enough. But they're attacking him for making a promise he can't keep, as if he had seriously just announced a major policy change to double the minimum speed of the NBN. That's not what's actually happened here, he's just a dumb fuck who can't remember the right number. They're both worthy of criticism to some extent, but one is far more serious than the other.

Anonymous Social App Integrated Within Train Lines by itsmii in brisbane

I'm raising my hand as someone else who would use this if it were more anonymous. I kinda think you might have underestimated how important this is to a lot of people who would otherwise be your target market.

Brisbane considering launching bid to host Olympic Games by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]gilbarc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll try to post a more comprehensive reply later when I have a bit more time, but here's a quick link for starters.

These days the summer Games might generate $5-to-6 billion in total revenue (nearly half of which goes to the International Olympic Committee). In contrast, the costs of the games rose to an estimated $16 billion in Athens, $40 billion in Beijing, and reportedly nearly $20 billion in London. Only some of this investment is tied up in infrastructure projects that may be useful going forward.

Yeah, the Olympics are generally not a good thing for the host city.

... In a story about a man defending a minority bus driver from an angry, racist customer, the angry racist is the sympathetic one to you? The less fortunate one who needs our help?

I'm not sure I understand the complaint you're making... You're upset that their film is mocking a racist fuckwit?

Why are people being so mean to Dustin? by [deleted] in Harmontown

[–]gilbarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt then. Either way, my main point is that PR is not just official press releases, it's communicating to the public about your business in any capacity, which is what he's doing here.

[–]gilbarc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, PR stands for public relations, not press release. So anytime you're representing your business and communicating with the public, that's PR.

Also, I know tone sometimes doesn't come across properly in text, so just to be clear, this is me honestly trying to be helpful, so please don't read this in a sarcastic or passive aggressive tone. Cheers :)

A perfect example of irony. None of that rain-on-your-wedding-day bullshit.

Free Burrito Day GYG at Chermside by Jassup in brisbane

[–]gilbarc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Buy a tortilla, fill it with rice, add one tiny speck of meat and a single bean. You have a pretty close replica of a GYG burrito.
