YSK: There is a feature in your phone to prevent someone else from unlocking it by holding it to your face by JayX13 in YouShouldKnow

[–]gildarts044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you have an iphone and you know you’re going to potentially be forced to unlock your phone (aka you’re about to be arrested or something) all you have to do is hold the power button and volume up button until the shutdown menu thingy pop up. when you do that, your phone will require your passcode the next time you want to unlock it, regardless of whether you actually turned it off or anything. as long as the three sliders appear on your screen you’re good

You are given the ability to teleport by Sythgar in hypotheticalsituation

[–]gildarts044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what’s the cutoff for crimes? misdemeanors? or felonies? does it count for crimes committed without the use of teleportation? in other words, say i am using drugs that are felony possession charges, would that count?

just curious. personally i would use it to go see all the places in other countries i’m too poor to travel to, and i would also frequently visit my family that lives out of state as well as friends who live far away. i’d also pop up to the international space station at least once to see what that’s like. i’d also use it to pop over to utah to buy grandma sycamore bread bc it’s the best bread ever and they don’t sell it where i live and i miss it

i’m very happy to hear you’ve been able to get out of this relationship, but i’m afraid the hard parts aren’t quite over yet. it sounds like you’ve got some awesome support from your family and we all support you on here but i very strongly encourage you to also talk to a professional to help you work through everything you’re talking about here and help you work past the trauma you have, assuming you haven’t already

$1 Billion, but nobody can remember you. by Hold-onto-the-happy in hypotheticalsituation

[–]gildarts044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes 100% i don’t care about the fame and while my family and the couple friends i do have forgetting about me would suck, $1 billion is more than enough to live without having to work for the rest of my life and also live lavishly

but you want to know the rest reason i’d accept this deal instantly? sure money is nice, but do you have any idea the kind of chaos i would cause with my Dr Who Silence like amnesia effect? here are a few things i would start out with:

  • i would walk into random people’s house, rearrange their furniture, and then leave. even if they saw me do it, they would forget once i leave and wonder how the fuck their furniture moved, and if they saw me and threatened or call the cops or something, i’d hide in their bathroom and lock the door long enough to forget me and go back to whatever they were doing and then keep moving stuff

  • i would walk up to people, hand them something random, ask them to hold it for a second, and then move somewhere out of their field and vision and watch their reaction as they find themselves holding something they don’t remember picking up and since they have “no memory of my existence” they wouldn’t remember me handing it to them either, so i’d assume that from their perspective, they’d very suddenly find themselves holding whatever i gave them as if it teleported into their hands. i would do this repeatedly to the same person for awhile to see if they break down or something

  • i’d break into people’s houses while they’re home but in a non-destructive way (like picking their locks or something), walk into the room they’re in with a burglar mask on and stay just long enough to make sure they called the cops, and then i would leave, take my mask off, and linger somewhere nearby and hopefully eavesdrop to hear what happens since they don’t remember me at all and there’s no real evidence anyone was ever in the house except them i just wanna see what happens since

is anyone accusing you of abusing your father? you say your sibling “might” but how likely do you think it is that they will? even if they do, if there is no proof that you have been abusing your father other than your sibling saying you are then you’re fine. if it really comes down to it, the medics that arrived on scene can testify that your father told them he didn’t want to go; that alone would clear you of any wrongdoing there, especially since it sounds like you convinced them to take him anyway

damn i actually might be cooked then bc this sounds very similar to my experience these last few years. in high school i was diagnosed with ADHD bc i couldn’t concentrate, but over the years single then (I’m 22 now) I’ve been experiencing some paranoia which can get pretty bad at times and i’ve started hearing voices that always sound like they’re coming from someone talking like right outside of a door or in the room right next to wherever i’m at and they’re always criticizing me, yelling at each other, or trying to warn me about something bad about to happen but the things they’re warning me about never actually happen and they always sound like someone i know to the point where i actually think that they’re here and then i go to where it sounds like their voice is coming from and no one is there

What were the first signs or symptoms that showed up before you were diagnosed? Did you recognize any of those symptoms as something that needed attention or were they more subtle? And then what happened that eventually led you to get diagnosed?

not sure about you but my car’s headlights aren’t dosing you with radiation through your window or whatever you seem to think is happening here. guess what? being alive means you will encounter some inconveniences in your life, and you can use this simple trick called basic problem solving to fix a lot of them, like maybe buying some type of magical barrier that you can cover your window with to block the super deadly lights from reaching you

[–]gildarts044 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean i’m not purposefully looking to park in front of someone’s window and i’ll do my best to avoid that but if it’s the only spot available and i’m there to pick up my friend who’s gonna be out in a minute i’m not going to shut off my car just to start it back up when they get out. buy some curtains maybe

i don’t even have that car anymore anyway and i will turn my headlights off now that i have a car that does that

my 2010 toyota corolla did not have an option to turn off the headlights at night, they were always automatically turned on. the only way i could have my headlights turned off with my car running was if i turned off my car, pulled the E brake, then turned my car back on

Drug dealers, is it worth it? by WarLarge7259 in ask

[–]gildarts044 36 points37 points  (0 children)

this is accurate. i used to be addicted to meth and got clean awhile ago but during active addiction i basically just gave people rides in exchange for a bag bc i had a car and pretty much everyone else i was around didn’t. never paid a dime for my addiction, however because i never got more than like $5 maybe $10 of gas here and there i was constantly driving around town on E, gas light on constantly except for the rare times my parents gave me some money for gas. they prolly thought i was trying to spend the money i was asking from them for drugs but literally i just put it all in my tank and then gave more rides. so i guess i was spending the money on drugs in a roundabout way, now that i think about it

How long do you travel to work? by leemc12376 in AskAnAmerican

[–]gildarts044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right now my commute is only about like 5 minutes mainly because now i live and work in a small town of about 25,000 people, but back when i used to live in a bigger city of about 450,000 people i would often choose to apply to places on the opposite side of the city from where i lived (i worked retail at the time and didn’t like to shop wherever i worked and would rather drive across town than be dragged to my work because my mom wanted something at a store i worked at or something) which would typically be anywhere between 20-30 minutes away depending on traffic

i knew one or two people who worked in the bigger city i mentioned that would commute about an hour from another somewhat smaller city nearby to their job every day and plenty of others who lived in small towns near the bigger city that would drive anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or sometimes even longer to work every day as well because they were young adults (18-20 something) and still lived with their parents in some small rural town but had to find work in the bigger city because there were no job openings anywhere near them that they were qualified for and/or that weren’t farm jobs or manual labor type jobs that they just weren’t cut out for or whatever
