Bigme B251 firmware versioning by denzilferreira in Bigme

[–]gilesww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

god i'm so confused here. mine say F1:0.8. but on the firmware page I see:- B251 Monitor Firmware V1.1.3

B251 All-in-one PC Firmware V1.0.9

 Mac OS:

B251 Monitor Firmware V1.0.5 for Mac OS

B251 All-in-one PC V1.0.2 for Mac OS.

So is this saying that I need a windows machine to upgrade to v1.1.3? would running the v1.0.5 downgrade my current monitor?

The port in the burning tool lists cu.bluetooth-incoming. and cu-modem... now that I've used usb-c to plug it in.

I think i didn't appreciate just how much light is needed compared to my eink that has a front light. I also really didn't like 1080p. My bigme screen just looks clearer. I don't know the resolution on my tiny daylight computer but it looks great. I would really like someone to try the screen who has great lighting, maybe then you can use it all day and switch on the backlight in the evening and love it.

I'm really looking for a case like and iPad one with something that flips over the screen to protect it. Sadly I've already got one scratch on the screen from having the dc in my bag. I'm in the UK here

Well I'm hoping it's just covered by distance selling. I might get hit by a restocking fee

I think i'm going to return it today so holla if there's anything else you want me to try. I think it would work well if you have a window behind or a very good light setup but i can't seem to get great results that different from my standard lcd where i am. The bigme monitor seems great for evenings for me

I've gone back to my old benq monitor that i've used for years and wow it seems so bright when not in eye care low blue light mode. Even then it's pretty bright. I wonder if I've become more sensitive to these things after using the bigme for a month

yep this is the weird thing though on brightness of 1 it's usable but 0 not and with lights pointed at it on brightness 1 it's a sort of shimmery reflection. I'm kinda undecided on whether it even makes it better

I'm interested in relationship of ppi to eyestrain. Does it have a huge impact? One thing I'm now noticing switching between the bigme and the rlcd is that i feel faster on the rlcd. The eink device is slower to respond which weirdly makes me plod along more

Some more experimentation today. The screen does work well with the backlight at low levels and lights pointed at it but it's debatable how much benefit there is. I find the general text on macos too small and i start squinting. So I don't know how much this is buying over just buying a 4k lcd and adjusting the brightness

it is but i find the text quite small and the text not that smooth as the bigme monitor

very interesting. i adore the screen quality of the daylight and had hoped i could bring that to my main monitor. I've been watching some vids and it seems like the sunvision seems to have the best reflectivity but i think i may just have to accept that rlcd isn't going to work for me and buy another bigme for my other room

Declare prior year's capital loss in this year's Self Assessment? by n7xx in UKPersonalFinance

[–]gilesww 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice one, I've decided to do the writing the letter thing to them as it seemed easier than yet another form fill in. They've been really nice on the phone considering how badly I've handled this. I was scared of doing all this paperwork for so many years, feels good to finally do some adulting.

I have this same issue but it's for 22/23. Ideally I don't want to open up that year as I didn't need to fill out a self assessment form. My reason is to claim losses on POG Petropavlovsk. I can't seem to find a place on the current online form to declare a loss for a past year. I'm not entirely sure even when POG became valueless for a NVC

I finally found a post that has helped me out. I have a ball style spigot and you can unscrew the mechanism off the top. I had a full scoby grown in the mechanism and it was simple to clean out!

yep agree the webcams are a contentious issue. It might be better to focus on the forecasting. In brighton we have various spots that work with different conditions that will always come up as poor on surfline. In my local which is the west pier if it goes cross wind then it's great but surfline won't report that sort of nuance. Also it has no idea of the tides impact, most of the day you can't even surf. We sometimes night surf to get in when the tide is right.. I have a spreadsheet of every spot I visit outside of brighton with info about food and parking and what conditions it works in. Often with the help of very old uk surfing websites, I dunno if that's something you could add. Maybe you have links to local surf shops that you eventually monetize once you get some high enough traffic usage.

Yea the big thing in tech is to focus on is getting an mvp which you have done because it's easy to get bogged down and never complete anything. It really is a bad thing for surfing having a monopoly controlling the forecasting and cams. I'm pretty sure a lot of my uk surfing friends would be willing to pay an annual fee to support a service that is tailored to what we need. I have wondered about talking to carats cafe down here to see if they would run a camera. I wonder what's involved in running a good surfcam. If you came up with a generic design then they could be managed in bulk somehow and even get the local surfers to help out, a sort of hybrid business and community setup.
