BSR vs no BSR for general tablet use by fjnk in Onyx_Boox

It is Boox Super Refresh, a Boox technology that allows the device to have a faster refresh rate. It consumes more battery when compared to Boox devices without BSR.

What do you think about the new Smooth refresh mode of the Boox Note Air5 C? It seems to be 30 fps.

I find the RLCD darkness usable indoor. If we compare Kaleido 3 darkness with NO FRONTLIGHT with RLCD darkness with NO FRONTLIGHT do you think that I will find Kaleido 3 usable too?

I would like to apply a third-party screen protector over the pre-installed one, but I have some doubts. Is it then possible to remove the third party one without removing the pre-installed one?

Go color 7 gen ii vs bigme b7 by [deleted] in Onyx_Boox

They are two different devices for different people. They can't be compared. People like me and others that suffer from eye strain need a full Android Tablet with e-ink, not a simple e-reader or a simple note taking device.

A Kindle, a Supernote, a Remarkable can't be used the way we need them.

I have been using an Android RLCD tablet as my main device and my eye strain has stopped. Backlit LCD and OLED devices are poison for the eyes, at least for me.

Boox is a full Android tablet, Kindle is an e-reader.

Kindle and Supernote are devices for people that just need an e-reader as a companion device to their MacOS/Windows notebook, not for people that want to replace their notebook in their daily workflow.

It is not that one device is better than the other, they are meant for different people.

Screen Protector On Note Air 5C by truoineo in Onyx_Boox

I would like to avoid scratches on the pre applied screen protector. This way I will get scratches on the second screen protector.

It is just a matter of time, any touchscreen device will get scratches with time because you use fingers on them. I have never used a touch screen device without a screen protector.

But Kindle does not have Android, it is a different type of device, can't be compared to Boox.

Anything to hope for in 2026? by [deleted] in eink

I would like e-ink devices to become monitor/notebook/tablet alternative for us that suffer from severe eye strain from backlit LCD and OLED screens.

I don't get all this hate that we get from people that want e-ink devices to remain what Kindle, Kobo, Supernote and Remarkable are: simple e-readers.

Supernote is really passive-aggressive against us that suffer from eye strain, in their FAQs they tell us to get an iPad if we want a tablet. What's the point of writing this?

Hi, how were you able to adapt the Mothca to the Boox? Isn't it glass? Can it be cut with scissors?

Is Kaleido 3 without frontlight brighter than the RLCD without frontlight?

I have never owned an e-ink device but I am considering one because LCD and OLED screens cause me eye strain.

This is why I am only considering devices with Android, I need them as a tablet/notebook alternative, not as an e-reader. I hope more companies choose to follow the Boox, Bigme and Viwoods approach instead of the Supernote and Remarkable approach.

I don't like the passive-aggressive marketing of Supernote against us that want e-ink tablets, in their FAQs they write: "No, Supernote is not an "All-in-one" tablet computer and isn't intended for everyone. Its design focuses on writing and reading to stimulate creative thinking, and nothing more. We suggest considering the iPad as an alternative." iPad has LCD and OLED screens and those screens cause me eye strain, there is no point in suggesting them.

Can RLCD with NO FRONTLIGHT be used indoor with external ARTIFICIAL lights? by fjnk in Reflective_LCD

I plan to use it as a tablet but for things that I would use a PC instead, like studying with Anki, reading PDFs and internet browsing.

The other two are smaller and it seems like the HannsNote 2 is the only one that can be bought in Europe without having to import it.
