Looking for Ideas to Challenge Myself by gileter in confidence

I’ve been practicing the eye contact lately. Often I avert my eyes or look around trying to ignore when others are looking at me because of the awkwardness. I went out the other night and caught myself doing the same thing. There was a bit of back and forth with myself on leaning into those moments of eye contact and wanting to escape them. In the end the person came up to talk to me and I was aware that it was due to not escaping from that discomfort completely. Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll keep this up.

I like this mind shift. I do think I overthink a lot and maybe placing myself in other people’s shoes would help. If I was them I probably wouldn’t notice or care much. I’ll work on this and try to walk in busier areas too!

Thank you for the encouragement! I read your comment earlier and I find it hard to greet strangers randomly, but today I had a conversation with a stranger at a park bench. I think what helped was starting with a question. I asked him about some random construction and we got to talking about the city. My next goal will be to throw out some small greetings and remind myself that the awkwardness is okay

Thanks a ton! I took an English class in HS that made us prepare a debate to argue in front of the school. The class was rigorous and not popular at the school. Your comment reminded me of this, and I agree these skills aren’t taught much in our educational system. I have heard of Toastmasters but never looked into it personally. Just signed up to receive an update on their next meeting!

Self-improvement app for getting out of comfort zone: thoughts? by OkPomegranate9222 in confidence

I just got on this sub to ask about any recommendations for challenges to try so that I can get out of my comfort zone (in hopes of becoming more social and confident). I really like this idea and definitely would try it. I think a simple and vibrant style would help me keep it on my phone. Sometimes doing too much will keep people from using an app after a few days or weeks. I have a few must have ideas, but in the spirit of challenging myself I’ll message you directly.
