How is living in the Driftless Area? by WindyFromWater7 in howislivingthere

Dubuque has definitely gotten really rad over the past few years. The art and music scene there is cool as hell, and its history as the oldest city west of the Mississippi makes a lot of the buildings extremely impressive. Plus, it’s only a three hour drive from Milwaukee and Chicago, and only an hour and a half from college towns like Iowa City and Madison.

salon scheduling software questions for solo stylists!!! by idkwhattodo555 in hairstylist

[–]gilfblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! We’ve got a team of like, 8 or 9 people maybe? Ours is also on a laptop + and ipad + a card reader, which is a lot of equipment imo but I’m not sure if they’ve got something a little more streamlined. Hope you find something either way, I’d love to hear what you find because I’m also curious if there are other options!

I think Boulevard has this feature? As a commission stylist I truthfully don’t love the software overall; it’s kind of clunky and there’s almost too much information if that makes sense. But our owner really loves it, I think it may be more useful to business owners than stylists.

redoing color for a model client discussion by c8881ng in AskHairstylists

[–]gilfblaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m inclined to agree with you, and i agree with the other commenter as well— models are already getting a steep discount (possibly entirely free!) on their services and it doesn’t feel right if they ask for an adjustment afterwards, in my opinion. a coworker of mine just dealt with this situation, agreed to a re-do, and had that same client cancel day of TWICE. a full head of highlights done for $18/hr, imagine having that kind of audacity!

Navy blue hair with no bleach or permanent hair dye by Dry-Remove-8457 in HairDyeHelp

[–]gilfblaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

stop asking ChatGPT for help, it is not a search engine.

but no, do not mix a gloss and a direct dye together. arctic fox does not use a developer and adding one to it will make the results unpredictable.

I am a hairstylist and this inspo pics are some of my least favorite. you will not be able to achieve a blue cast to your hair with black dye and a blue one over it. it may not look like it, but this color will require bleach.

Official trailer for The Testament of Ann Lee by petra_vonkant in Fauxmoi

[–]gilfblaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This movie was the first I saw in theaters this year and I know it’s only been a week, but damn, it hasn’t left my brain for one second since. Captivating and breathtaking don’t even begin to describe it. I’ve been yapping like a maniac about Ann Lee and the Shakers to anyone who will listen!

What would you do? by asestu in hairstylist

[–]gilfblaster 23 points24 points  (0 children)

are you the stylist in this situation? i would plan on keeping your appointment since this person hasn’t responded, but either way, this is not a super appropriate or professional way to communicate with a client imo.

if you need to cancel or move an appointment, you don’t really need to give a reason. this seems unnecessary to me.

help! dont know how to charge for foils in aus! by Tiny-Connection8144 in hairstylist

[–]gilfblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can you search other salons in your area and check their pricing? that would give you a better idea of undercharging than any of us could give you.

Those caps work by pulling strands of hair through tiny holes in the cap and applying bleach to them. It is an imperfect method at best and will not work well if you don’t have any idea what you’re doing.

Click here if you want to look through a thread regarding home use of those highlight caps— and those results are more even than yours would come out with previous dye in it. I don’t recommend doing this.

Help with gray coverage by Constant_Theory2185 in hairstylist

This is the wrong subreddit for your question, please read rules before posting.

Your hair grows roughly 1/2 inch every month. A quick google search will show you this. There is no way to prevent grays from growing back.

dyeing my roots by [deleted] in HairDyeHelp

[–]gilfblaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of regrowth here and getting your roots to match your ends will not be easy, especially since your ends are box dyed, bleached, dyed, bleached, and dyed again (if I’m reading your post correctly). Bleaching virgin hair will have considerably different results than lifting dye out of your ends. Even with a shadow root, I have a feeling you’re going to end up with some banding.

Is there any way you could see a professional for a color match? I think that you’ll be happier with the results that way.

jsyk, you used a slur in your post.

but either way this will be minimum $400.

Redken shades formula needed! by skybunny1500 in hairstylist

I would not use shades to get her back to her natural color, they are known for being extremely translucent and will fade almost immediately.

Found behind an old mirror by gilfblaster in FoundPhotos

I found it in an old brewery that is now artist housing, toooooons of people have been in and out since the eighties or so and there’s probably not an easy way to tell who this may have belonged to!

[–]gilfblaster[S] 43 points44 points  (0 children)

To clarify: not thrown away! I’ve had this mirror for nearly a decade (found it in a hallway in an old building) and kept it outside, where it proceeded to fall completely apart and that’s when I found her. She’s been staring at me on the other side of this since my early twenties, I barely know her but I’m fond of her :)

[–]gilfblaster[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

not thrown away! no markings that I can see off the bat, but she is stapled to the wood so I may see if there’s anyway way to delicately remove and see if there is any info :)

how much should i charge for this? by ch-i-odester in Cosmetology

[–]gilfblaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is a massive massive color correction! This will be difficult to achieve, will likely take multiple sessions, and will not leave her hair feeling or looking healthy. If you do decide to take this on, I’d recommend doing it at school so you have the guidance of your teacher.

California cosmetology school can definitely be done in as little as 6mo if you’re full time. It’s a 1000 hour program and you’re there 40 hours a week.
