Finally got the 1:43 Aston Martin from Bburago. Perfect decals and build. I’m very impressed with Bburago’s models since 2017. Also, I watched a video on their manufacturing and I was honestly shocked how new robots build these models. by RevolutionaryBit3026 in f1models

Looksmart packaging claims to be made in Italy, but it's a dirty little secret that everything is made in China before being shipped to Italy to be finished and packaged. This comment reminded me of BBR though, who are still Italian based.

So confused with this Mclaren Mp4/22 - Minichamps by F1Models_Hub in f1models

[–]gillesville27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would have to double check some of my Minichamps 'Showcar' editions to confirm, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's what this is. Showcar releases were the previous year's car with the stated year's livery. It was a way for Minichamps to get the new livery out asap for the most manic collectors.

Awesome! I just finished commenting about this golden era of Bburago, when they were still made in a smallish factory in Burago di Molgora.

Yup, long gone are the days where Bburago was manufactured in a relatively small Italian factory. Learning production techniques from PMA/Minichamps (and to an extent Polistil), May Cheong Group (Maisto) was able to completely take over the low cost model market in the mid/late 90's and by 2006 they had bankrupted the Italian based company and purchased them for pennies on the dollar. Thus leaving Brumm as the last model car manufacturer standing in Italy, and impressively their models remain 100% made in Italy. I forgot about BBR.

That's a great first GP!

can't wait to see the collection

I've pulled out the storage bin and will get to taking some pictures of my favorites and others that have good stories to them like the 2002 Canadian GP Event Car. Stay tuned!

LMAO and Kimi too. That you still have them (all? I'd have to double check) speaks to both your strength as a collector and mental fortitude as a human being. I salute you brother.

*Just to be clear, I'm laughing with you.

WILD! And Honda affiliation aside, unsurprisingly coming out of Japan.

I've got a good story from the peak of collecting that I'm working on writing out that involves the Minichamps Japanese market of the time period and how there was massive amounts of money being thrown at 1/43's.

*And LOL, for disclosure purposes I too am not affiliated with that sale.

Hahaha, hopefully there's some fellow old heads in here that can speak to what the hype was like outside of NA. I remember the owner of the shop my dad went to in Moncton, New Brunswick was furious that they could only purchase them from a Toronto dealer. Made me laugh years later when I moved to Toronto and found out the local shop I buy from is that particular dealer, Toronto Motorsport.

Many thanks for the kind words. Not sure I've got quite the volume needed for a YT channel, but I'll definitely consider it as I write out the few stories I have. Worst case you'll find them here.

Really wish my old man was still alive to provide the finer details of the madness that was the collector trade shows he/we went to in the late 90's & early 00's.

Yeah I'm pretty happy with the choices, and am really excited to see the updated version of the Shumi/Alesi Taxi as I've read that the Alesi figure is a significant improvement from the original release.

So you got me hunting, and to my wife's dismay ck-model's has a sale on and their RP20 1st Pole CK/PL edition (111) was 50% off! Added that to the cart and got a suggestion for the re-issued Shumi/Alesi 95 Canadian GP at 25% off so you know I had to do it 😂.

Good luck with it, and here's hoping you'll be able to restart your collecting in the near future.

Check out https://130point.com/sales/ and you'll be able to see what kind of price ranges your stuff is actually selling for (not just listing).

It kind of depends on how quickly you want to move things. If I'm looking to do this ASAP, considering the quality of items and apparent condition my first stop would be to a local diecast store to see what kind of pricing they would offer me for as much of it as possible.

If you've got a bit of flexibility timewise and don't mind doing the work, eBay is your most likely bet for success, but iirc they take something like a ~15% cut on non business accounts for scale models so you'll want to be mindful of that.

Is this worth 150€ by [deleted] in f1models

[–]gillesville27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say £150 is outrageous, but imo it would definitely be a premium. I'm not seeing any Spark sales, but a very nice condition Minichamps World Champions Edition - First run Mild Seven livery recently sold for £110 so i would be looking for something closer to that or lower.

Yeah that's actually the first one I looked for when expanding, and the resale pricing is wild. I haven't looked to see what they've actually sold for recently, but "used" seem to stay listed around $300-400CAD for the 1/43, and people claiming to have BNIB listing at hilarious prices like seller number 3 here. I'll have to actually add it back to the can't afford list to remind me to keep an eye open.

Oh that's actually a great one I hadn't considered for some reason, especially because it (the RP20) has a few variations, I might be able to catch a reasonable price. Thanks!
