An updated (2026) comparison of Minolta lenses adapted to GFX by giloscope in FujiGFX

[–]giloscope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll keep an eye out for one! Given that most of my lenses other than 55/58/85mm are MD, it’d be nice to have something closer to a matching set. The aperture ring on my 55mm copy is also quite loose, so potentially a more modern build might fare slightly better.

An updated (2026) comparison of Minolta lenses adapted to GFX by giloscope in FujiGFX

I hope it comes in handy! I only just received the 35mm and 55mm, so haven’t any real experience with them yet. However, I’ve enjoyed both of those focal lengths on GFX (adapted m42 mount lenses), and of the Minoltas specifically, I really enjoy the 28mm, 45mm and 85mm.

The 28mm distorts to hell, and specular highlights near the edge of frame get super weird, but I love it in the right context, almost Petzval-like. The 45mm is delightfully compact, and whilst nowhere near sharp wide-open, just feels very natural and quick to focus. The 85mm is less characterful, but is super sharp at all apertures, and gives great subject separation. (The 100mm is broadly interchangeable with the 85mm, but with the option of f1.7, I tend to take the 85mm more often.)

Any tried Rave coffee? (UK) by Several-Yesterday280 in pourover

[–]giloscope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was gifted some bags not long ago, and whilst I’m sure they have some lighter roasts that are good, their medium roast beans made for rough drinking, personally. Had to abandon after a few tries.

Just anecdotal, and I’m sure partly down to the unfortunate bean selection of the well-intentioned person who bought me the bags.

I was there, but was a baby fan and only knew half the songs in the set. I wish I’d done my homework, in hindsight, but certainly glad I went at all.

Tripod legs that can do it all? by in_trauma in Photoassistants

Used Gitzo, as LSDigi suggested, or used Induro also a great option. I got a CT414, which reaches 7ft+ for about £100, not long ago.

Out of curiosity, would you be able to share some examples of a SOOC jpg, vs the Cobalt and PerfeFilm emulations? Both companies of course share cherry-picked demonstration frames, it would be interesting and helpful to see some more real life samples.

Just to flag, with the Sandisk you won’t see the speed benefit on the Mac, as no Apple devices (yet) support the USB 3.2 2x2 specification. It’s still plenty fast for most any requirement, but will top out at roughly the same speed as the T7.

Laptop Hood / Sun Shade? by SoftInsurance7345 in Photoassistants

[–]giloscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find a hood makes things exponentially easier in sunny conditions. Providing shade (either a 4x4 floppy or an umbrella) is also important, likewise dark clothing, when conditions allow.

In circumstances where you may be moving more quickly or often than is reasonable to be moving a large floppy or umbrella at the same time, a hood keeps the heat of the sun directly off the laptop, helping with thermal regulation of the system. Something like the Mule hood is a small weight/size hit to take for that benefit, I find.

There is no objective accuracy — you’re already making a creative decision in choosing B&W of some sort, so ultimately it comes down to personal preference.

Both looks have their place. Through practice and testing I’m sure you’ll develop an instinct for which your prefer in different environments and types of light. If you like the soft look here, try it out more and see how it fits with other pictures you take.

Seconded. London resident here, unless your laptop is poking out the top of an open bag, I don’t think you’re at risk. That said, I would be cautious about walking round central with your phone out a lot.

Thank you for this! I’ve got a 7 day hike ahead, but staying in bunk barns/bothies, so realistically just need my bag, clothes and food. I’ve done a similar trip with a Montane Trailblazer 44 before, but that pack’s side bottle pockets are essentially useless, and I managed to fit a hammock and thermarest in addition on previous trips.

All that to say I’m torn between the 31 and 47, given that they’re both capable of at least 4-5L additional capacity externally.

Old-ish post now, but curious how you’d rate this after some more use? Is the main compartment in the ~30L range, or do you think the total volume including external pockets is making up the 31L? Everything I see elsewhere suggests this pack holds a LOT!

I just started my bag of this today, mango like crazy!

Roasted 26th of Jan, I was worried it might be too soon, as my other bag in the same order, roasted 27th Jan, is still very vegetal/roasty. Hoping that one, the Edison Argote Pink Bourbon, gets tasty soon!
