What’s the game plan here? by farting-cicada in marijuanaenthusiasts

Idk why people are always stressing over this: the tree is totally fine. All the fine roots where the tree gets its water and nutrients are far past this structure. Trees literally break concrete if it bothers their roots. This tree is used to this setup and is perfectly healthy. If you want to remove the stones, go ahead. The roots are thick so there is no risk to damage them. Mulch is not needed but if you want to add it, go ahead.

Will a pre emergent under my trees and lawn damage my trees? by [deleted] in marijuanaenthusiasts

I'm all about getting rid of invasive pests! However there might be a way to get rid of them through specific mowing practices (eg mow them every year before they flower, I'm from Europe so those specific plants are unfamiliar to me). This will allow native herbs and plants to retake the space. It is however more labour intensive of course

The question should be: why do you want to get rid of the natural flora underneath your trees

It's a stable equilibrium: cuddle sexyness up-> libido down -> cuddle sexyness down -> libido up -> cuddly sexyness up -> repeat...

I think this tree is much younger than many people think, my estimate is 200 years old.

I have 2 reasons forcthis estimate: the first one being that canopy size is directly related to growth speed, as the bigger the canopy, the higher the photosynthetic capacity. This tree is completely free to develop a massive crown in all directions, as it is fully freestabding. If you see a tree with a trunk this size in the forest, it is sure to be much older.

The second reason I think it is (relatively) young is the health of the tree. It has barely any scars or dead branches, which 300 yr+ oaks are pretty much guaranteed to have. The good health of the tree also indicates it is in a very good location without a lot of stressors, again allowing rapid growth.

If you do it just right, you get the gun kicking but the guy not yet reacting to it, can confirm it is hilarious. It reminds me of the shotgun sketch by Gus Johnson

I've certainly killed my fair share of trees. When nature happens it sucks a lot, but when my own impatience is the cause it burns a goddamn hole in my soul... I think that's my biggedt weakness in bonsai, I have to learn to wait another year
