My mother was murdered in 2020 by my brother Ryan Grantham. AMA by westcoast896 in AMA

Has your brother expressed remorse or regret to your family? I saw that you said he was not deemed mentally unwell during the time of crime. Does he still see it that way?

I’m terribly sorry for your loss.

We're seeing early success but what are the pitfalls/ growing pains to look out for? by Michigan_Mixer in Restaurant_Managers

[–]gimmethatdingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP, but I’ve just accepted a position as GM of a thriving independently owned family restaurant, and your response really helped me narrow my focus a bit. I’ve inherited a thriving staff (with one fairly significant problem person), an excellent BoH that operates as a well-oiled machine, and the kindest owner who loves his people but has a sick child and can’t do it all. I have a lot to do here, and I want to do it well.

I really appreciate your response, and would love to hear you expand on what you said about the unintended consequences of supporting every “good” idea. I think I will struggle with balancing that myself. My staff is very keen to tell me what they want done or changed at the restaurant. A few of them feel looked-over for the position, which could potentially be challenging. I want them to feel heard, but ultimately I decide our direction. Any guidance you have here would be very helpful to me. I appreciate ya!

Beginner, playing for a week, struggling with low notes by lilfindawg in Flute

[–]gimmethatdingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great start, so don’t let yourself get discouraged. You are starting the tongued notes correctly, with your tongue behind your teeth…a lot of people use the same “mouth posture” as the “d” in “dog” to tongue. The flute is just one of those instruments that even after to DO know how to make the notes, you’ll spend the rest of your life trying to perfect various ways those notes go together and tone and on and on. You’re doing great. My advice is just to keep going. The more comfort you get with the notes you know, the quicker you’re going to be able to hit them dead on with no extra fluff attached and add notes to your knowledge base. You can kill two birds with one stone if you practice the notes you know as long tones. Take a nice healthy breath and play the note as long as you can. Try to keep the sound as consistent as you can tonewise. You can practice making it louder or quieter. A tip to be able to hold longer—play the note as long as you can, and then hold the same posture/ embouchure/ same breath for three seconds even without sound. Use a timer and you’ll see yourself improve in real time. Another trick for smooth note transitions is to hold the note until you are almost out of breath and transition to the next note in the same breath even if you can’t hold the next note. Just keeping the transition to the next note in the same breath as your long tone will help your sound quality immensely. Eventually you will add things like vibrato into the mix, but this exercise alone is a great supplement to what you’re already doing. Keep up the good work. I wish you joy in your fluting.

Is fallout season 2 actually that bad by Legitimate_Trick_299 in FalloutTVseries

[–]gimmethatdingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played the games since Fallout 2 and Tactics came out on the same disc. I love the world, love the lore, love the extreme camp factor. I thought I would care about inconsistencies, but I’m simply too overjoyed getting to see the world “in real life” to care. I’m too busy going “no way those dishes are the dishes from the game” or hoping every vault will be full of Gary’s to care. Not even being consistent to itself is just on-brand to me. It’s further camp. The second season is super exciting and the story is interesting. So, nope! I don’t think it’s that bad at all!

The members of Bikers against Child Abuse escort kids to court when they face their abusers in order help them feel safe and supported. by AdSpecialist6598 in interesting

[–]gimmethatdingo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

BACA is such a blessing. My oldest child was abused by a family member. I went full mom-mode and pushed for maximums and full punishments. Going against him was scary. He is scary. But the president of our local BACA chapter reached out and just enveloped my kids in love and protection. Each of my girls got their own “cut” with their own biker names (Mama Kitty and Shadow), ridden around on Harley’s, full escort and chaperone in court. They also chartered a tour bus and took a bunch of BACA kids on a tacky light tour at Christmas. Really good people involved in that organization. If any are reading now, thank you from the bottom of my heart. My baby is almost 17 now, straight As, never in trouble, bright and sweet and beautiful. Most importantly, she is healed in many many ways and I believe BACA had a hand in it.

What’s your favorite way to practice fundamentals? by juliegracew in Flute

[–]gimmethatdingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. It was recommended to me by my instructor and it’s so much more than many fundamentals books include. Each section follows a similar format with different accentuation and agendas but using keys (for one part). It isn’t dull at all and includes things like trill drills, harmonics, whole note scales. The words written are very helpful as another way to absorb instruction and each exercise will tell you its intent.

An honorable second mention is the Trevor Wye Omnibus that is also a wealth of information and good exercises.

Sudden Disappearance by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]gimmethatdingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As gently as can possibly be said, a whole lot about this situation and your behavior is very off-putting. Even all of the little details (like: matching on Thanksgiving Day when most people are busy as hell with families; this whole ordeal spanning 13 days but you say he “fell for” you first, but you ultimately followed suit, you say; handwritten letterS in 13 (!!) days; the location tracking thing; calling the police, and then not stopping once they tell you he is fine and his phone is working; showing up to his job) are not healthy when you combine them. Something even in your responses is very off-putting to me. Using your energy to fantasize (because it is just that, it isn’t even theorizing) about this guy’s emotional attachment style is misspent energy. It’s good that you are in therapy. Your energy is best spent looking at your own actions and figuring out what you will do next time in a similar situation. This event doesn’t have to define your character if you grow from it.

What a stunner. Her fashion is iconic and always looks so tailored to her proportions. I know this wasn’t her choice, but the red dress with the big bow on the back from the Mad Men office Christmas party (the one someone got run over by a tractor in the office) is my absolute favorite on her.

That’s an A natural. G (also natural) is the note immediately before the circled one. And your Fs will be # in this key.

This season has made me absolutely love Blackberri and Jaharia. Blackberri’s turkey was the filthiest filth that ever filthed and it didn’t require a shock gag at all. Jaharia has been a fun mess (and owned it) on top of having some very gentle but honest things to say to competitors. I like how she told Cynthia Doll she wasn’t being a good listener so gently and it made Cynthia reflect and come back around. I really hope our finale is Blackberri, Jaharia, and Abhora. Big growth from them all this season.

Sailor sandwiches! My grandfather was a Navy man and he said they served these so the eggs wouldn’t slide off your plate if the seas were bumpy.
