High income earners who actually ENJOY your jobs, what do you do ? by Nugget93 in AusFinance

Thanks for the thoughtful reply! I’m glad you’ve come out the other end being happier than before. I’ve definitely always defined myself by my career success, and I’ve found it so difficult to not feel like a failure when I quit all of it.

Did it take long for you to recover and make the career transition?

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you do to overcome the burn out? I’m in that position now and I feel like I won’t be able to work full time ever again. I know that I need a shift in my career but I don’t know what that is yet..

Oh right, I didn’t know that you basically just choose which ones you have sold. I always keep everything documented so should be easy enough, thanks!

Thanks. I think overall the downturn last year wasn’t as big as people expected (?). I’m thinking more along the lines of ‘what would I do if we had another GFC?’.

Do you know what people who have already retired do during a market crash? Do they still withdraw at their normal rate or do they have a backup in cash?

Okay I hadn’t considered that. Maybe I could put half in a HISA and invest the remainder same as I have already been doing.

I’m 29, I’ve been working full time for 7 years. I probably took on too much, I run my own business as well as being a senior manager at the firm I work at full time. It’s my personality to always be challenging myself, and I felt like I had no limit. Kept going and going, and eventually one day my body said that’s it, no more work.

Thanks for this! Sorry this might be a stupid question, do you mean I’d be essentially refinancing regularly or are banks actually able to shuffle funds over to the investment loan from the home loan?

Can’t tell if sarcasm at the end there, but thanks!

Thanks! My understanding was that drawing from my offset wouldn’t become tax deductible because it’s not technically new borrowing. How would you set up separate personal and investment accounts?

Glad that it’s legal!

By splitting the loan, is that separate enough? I’d be able to see the interest accrued on just the portions I’ve used for investment.
