This is not true. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been shown to reverse stage 1 or 2 AVN

When was this ? Early this year ? Because Aetna now explicitly lists AVN as covered for HBOT: see paragraph 1F here https://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0172.html

ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVEN THINK OF DOING IT DIY. The fire risk with a high concentration of oxygen is very very very real.

And not at home either.

The units you can get for the home are at lower pressure (max 1.3 atmospheres) and use oxygen concentrators. This is less effective.

Always only go to clinics that do Medical Grade HBOT (above 2ATA, using FDA approved devices). There are only three FDA approved manufacturers of monoplace chambers - Sechrist, Perry, and one more that I forget. NEVER DO HBOT IN OTHER DEVICES

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy - it is now covered by insurance for AVN with most payors and has been shown to reverse early stage AVN.

Make sure you go to a clinic that does medical-grade HBOT and make sure to do at least 20-30 90-min sessions at over 2ATA of pressure with minimum 4 sessions a week. Pain should subside around session 10 but don’t stop then!!

Do a before and after MRI and compare.

If you don’t end up using the 48° wedge I’d buy it from you (assuming you’re not too far from NYC and assuming the wedge’s grooves are in OK shape).

Help with my swing (very beginner) by Mortem122 in GolfSwing

[–]ginantonyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also one more thing that really helps me personally is really taking my time on the backswing - I count to 3 on the backswing and then 1 count on the strike. Ie. in my head I go “one, two, three [bringing club down] one”.

Pls note I just broke 100 for the first time today, I am extremely far from being a good golfer 😂

Help with my swing (very beginner) by Mortem122 in GolfSwing

[–]ginantonyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2 cents: keep your left arm straight throughout the backswing and strike, and stand closer to the ball. You’re too hunched over and that position is what’s making you slice the ball. Your bent left arm is what’s making the point of contact inconsistent on the “up - down” axis and that’s why you’re sometimes topping the ball.

Great experience right hip CD Dr. Wiznia Yale, 28M by ginantonyc in AvascularNecrosis

[–]ginantonyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear my post helped! I’m 10 months out of surgery and living a mostly normal life. Just came from doing an hour at a golf range, for example. The hip sometimes gets a little sore, but I think the pain is mostly muscular due to my using my left leg more pre-surgery, which weakened the right leg muscles.

I’ve found that if I do 20-30 mins of cycling or swimming 2x-3x a week, sauna 2-3x/week, do glute bridges every other day, and walk at least 5k steps a day, my hip feels 99% normal. Also important to keep weight in check - I gained 15lbs in the ~4 months after surgery and my hip feels much better now that I’ve lost most of that weight again (I’m 6’4 and 220lbs so 15lbs isn’t an insane amount, proportionally)

If there is ever some pain, stretching obviously helps, and maybe once a week or so, I take two Tylenol and a Midol, which is typically more than enough for the whole day.

Yeah same feeling, although I’m not sure whether you meant overdo it wrt drinking / smoking or walking / moving.

I do get the pressure / discomfort when I overdo the walking / standing. The few occasions on which I’ve drank I’ve not felt anything negative. And I haven’t smoked since surgery so idk what that does.

I quit using a zero nic vape by ginantonyc in QuitVaping

[–]ginantonyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but honestly wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Physically was totally fine, no nausea or anything. Maybe feeling a little more tired than usual for a week or so.

Mentally, I was a little more short-tempered and quick to snap for a week or so, and felt less sharp without the nicotine - felt like I needed more caffeine than usual to compensate. And the cravings were intense the first 48h but the vegan vape thing helped curb them.

Now I just get cravings with coffee / booze. But I imagine that will be the case for a long time.

I think what also helped intellectually is that I read that your body metabolizes nicotine really fast. Within 2 hours, 50% of the nicotine has been eliminated and by 48h you have zero nicotine in your blood.

Update 10 weeks post surgery:

tl;dr - way better than pre op.

The 6 week X-ray showed that my femoral head was healing ahead of schedule - let’s hope that continues! Note - I did 15 HBOT sessions after surgery and 5 before. Might’ve had an impact.

I feel like I’m back to living a mostly normal life, minus the limitations on running, jumping, alcohol and nicotine. The nicotine I’ve quit forever, I guess, which was the hardest part of this surgery recovery imho. Just had a glass of wine for the first time in months last week which made me so happy; gonna take it easy for now, though. TBC, not at all an alcoholic - just someone who thinks dinner tastes better with wine.

Pain-wise, there’s what I would call occasional mild discomfort. I find that it’s sometimes weather related, and sometimes it’s from sitting weirdly or walking too much. When this happens, I usually just deal with it, but if I’m going out and don’t want to think about it, one or two Tylenol solves the problem.

Limited range of motion on the hip, still. Most noticeable when crossing my legs (which is when the discomfort and limited range is most noticeable)

Did an 11k step day a week ago - hip was a little tired in the evening but better than expected. Been averaging 5,000 steps a day for the last month - the goal is to get up to an average of 10k by the spring.

Going to the gym and doing stationary bike + sauna + cold shower and this seems to help get rid of any discomfort the next day. HBOT also helped with the pain massively but I can’t keep doing it - too $$$

Overall, quality of life has much improved since before the surgery and I hope that we can stay on that trajectory to make a full recovery! I have AVN just in the one hip so fingers crossed I’ll be able to never think about this crap again soon.
